This machine is so ingeniously created, it's so mesmerizing, that I just bought myself one recently. It has functions that are still so very actual and broadly used in contemporary drum machines/grooveboxes. It also carries some unique 80's and 90's sounds that are worth keeping and processing.

Exactly XI bought this machine because of those 80s and 90s sounds that are not present on newer machines and because eits a classic. And a classic never gets old.

LOVED THIS VIDEO!!!!! Lol Funny how people react to the "time period" thing, and by the looks it's sure looks like VHS LOL, BUT!!!!! These Alesis SR 16 Drum machines have been around for quite a long time folks. And they keep selling them in 2017!!!!!!! WHY????? Because they are perfect to use!!!!! And last and last!!!!! Geez, I had the linn drum machine way back then, and it sounded great, sampled sounds of real drums, but had it's hang ups with processer. This SR16 is EXCELLENT!!!! To help you compose, in the simplest manner!!! Home studio, midi use, and live use is tops!!!! Sure, there are a bunch of new Drum machines out there, but this little Gem has been used by a ton of people, and proven quality and simplest user friendly box around!!!! Compared to newer drum boxes... "Still around in 2017" believe me, if this unit was NOT GOOD, it would Not Be still selling today...Video was rather vintagey, but very helpful if you pay attention... ALTHOUGH the CLARITY of the panned shots on buttons of Alesis SR 16 are very terrible, but if you have the unit next to you, you can determine where he is actually pressing lol. I recommend it for sure, you can't "BEAT" it for the price!!!!

I still have and use the same machine I bought in 91 and I can see why they are still sold. I originally got it simply because I could use it at home to play along with but once I learnt to write songs on it I started to use it to gig and record with. I think that old saying 'If it ain't broken, don't fix it' applies to this machine (even though they brought out the SR18)

I 'm buyng one of these wonder machines used but well owned, at the half of the actual price...I Like very much the possibilty to program and set everything and the internal sequencer is very useful for music creation without a computer based Daw. I Like to make music in old school using for example a multitrack digital recorder like the Tascam dp003-sd and other external synths and instrument, creativity is stimulated by touching buttons and potentiometers and not distracted by hundreds of plugins.

I'm seriously thinking about buying an Alesis SR-16 even though I have an Alesis SR-16 sample pack as custom drum kits inside a VST but Alesis don't like their samples being distributed without their permission. The SR-16 is also so compact it can fit into even the tightest setup and you can get then second hand for next to nothing. It might not be the most convincing sounding drum machine but if you program and layer your sounds properly it can sound vaguely authentic or you can use it as a drum trigger inside your DAW with a USB midi interface. It even has velocity sensitive pads, it's very advanced for it's age.

Line 6 amp should have an 1/8" input for cd/mp3 player. Get a cable 1/4" TRS to 1/8" TRS from SR-16 AUX L/R out (or headphone out) to Line 6 CD input. Volume for SR16 should be controlled by the SR16 (turn it down before plugging in), volume and tone on Line 6 will control instrument input only.
@hollowmenrule
@hollowmenrule 11 лет назад
hey, if you have a 3 track mixer, you should be able to run both into the input jacks. 1-3. then look for a LINE OUTPUT, which may look like the stereo system outputs, not the guitar cable. so you will need a cord that has the "stereo red and white" plugs going OUT OF YOUR MIXER, then make sure it has a guitar plug on the other end. radio shack has those cords. so red/white stereo plug on one side, guitar plug on the other, I think, probably what you need.

My first drum machine came from a pawn shop in the nineties. It was grey and bulky. I can’t remember what it was called, but it had square vegematic switches and sounded like cruise ship elevator music. I hated it, and it hated me.

Hi, a useful tutorial, but I have a question: how can you make a measure of 7/8 for example? Or how on other rhythm machines the last step 7 or LAST STEP 14 ..? Well, the option would be to do 7 measures and to put only 1 beat during time, but this will give you a rhythm that you have to use at maximum speed so that you can use it ... but which is not useful because you are limited only to that speed and you can't rush the tempo more than that ... maybe an opinion can help me, thank you!

@@RiffMusic1970 yep not everyone will settle for a workaound the nice thing is I can add fills manually and it will quantize it if my meter is off which would be rare LOL thanks again for the help.

Btw, these steps can only be used in “user” mode, not in “preset” mode. I don’t think you can change the preset patterns. I never use the preset patterns anyway. I make all my own.

Hello. When I try to upload a file to my Alesis SR-16, it appears me the message, which I put in parentheses, in MIDI OX. Would you help me? Thank you. (SysEx: No Buffers Available: There is not enough memory available for this task. Quit one or more applications to increase available memory, and try again.)

Alesis is a bit odd.eith midi. Google for. Alesis ion, micron or Akai Miniak. Or Alesis DM5. There are some suggested values for buffers, timeout etc.
