the Alesis SR 18 is a great drum machine and in this video I will show you how to simply program some drum tracks. product link: Alesis SR-18 drum machine: amzn.to/3NuFxBn
Thanks for this, this is how i want to work with a drum machine also so you have answered my questions 😊.. I have a similar 16 track and also want to look at how to sync via midi instead of recording onto the multitrack just to have flexibility when mixing but maybe it will get too complicated and it's better to go the same route that you have shown 😅👍
yes it is way faster then using a DAW in my opinion and no crashing of your computer to worry about as well as once you have those drum tracks recorded you can actually use the drum machine live and create a whole set list as well with it so you always have a drummer on hand when your drummer does not show up for practice or a gig! thanks for watching the video and the great comment.
Nice, thank you for the video! Would you comment the proccess of recording on the multitracker? Do you record mono or stereo? How do you sync the two? Do you start recording on the multitracker and then press play on the Sr18? Simples as that?
I run the sr-18 into line in channel of the multi track which is mono on the recorder get all my settings and volumes set and then yes just hit the record button and start the drum machine. But that is after I have programmed all my tracks and fills for the song in the SR-18 first. I do several pre test to get all the levels right and then when it sounds good to me I let it rip.
@@Rocktalk101 Thank you! I am buying a Tascam DP-03 SD and a SR-18 to record my songs the same way. So much better than sitting in front a notebook clicking a mouse!
@@pluriversus I have the same recorder and am planning to get an DR-18 for the same reason, as well as live use. I would love to hear how the combination of the Tascam and the Alesis are working out for you.
yes it sure can yo can program and type if fill crash drum roll what ever you want to start your song off. how ever you want smash crash kick snare it does not matter. good question though for sure kno wone has ever asked me that one yet. thanks fo rwatching the video and for the comment.
When you program your own patterns from scratch, I am still not sure how the fills work. Sometimes I will get a gap where the fill should be. But nothing plays for that short amount of time. I know the fills are automatic when using the presets. It's different when you are programming the patterns yourself. This is the one thing I keep not getting right.
So I am also still learnng more about how to use my SR-18 for me I will program my own beat and patterns but I will still use a pre programmed pattern with a fill that is pre done when needing those fills as I too am still sturggling to figure out how that works as well.
@@Rocktalk101 In step edit mode, I think you press the fill button and then you can pinpoint where in the beat you want the fill to start. I tried this but sometimes I end up with dead air for how long I made the fill for. It is definitely weird and I have yet to figure it all out.
When you transfer the drums to the recorder, do all of the drums end up as a single track or is there a way to assign individual drums to separate tracks as you would with a live drummer? How about for the percussion and bass? Can they be assigned to separate tracks?
ok so to answer your question if you are programming a full song and then saving it in the machine then everything is all on one track and then it will all go on o track when you put it in your DAW or multi track recorder, Now if you use the touch pads and want to play each individual drum part on a seperate track then yes you can do that but it is a lot of work to do it that way. For me I just creat my full drum track save it in the machine and then record the whole thing on one track and that sounds great and works great for me. Hope that helps
@@michaelduke2026 ya I use a 16 track fostex and with this drum machine it just make it very easy for me to do my drum tracks I have recorded several songs with it that are all out and can be foudn at any streaming service pretty much as well as music videos that I have released that are on this channel as well.

what are you talking about what songs its a drum machine and has hundreds of pre programmed drum beats in it as well as being able to create your own? And this video is about how to create drum tracks and how to program a full drum track for a song so not sure were you are going with your comment but hey if it does not work for you or is to complicated then I guess you won't need to worry about owning this drum machine.
