The Alesis Strata Prime is one of the latest additions to the world of high-end electronic drum kits. In this video, I demonstrate all 74 preset kits included with the Alesis Strata Prime electronic drum set module.
I loved familiarizing myself with all of the 74 onboard kits. They are comprised of a huge range of bespoke and high-end drums and cymbals that have been meticulously recorded in some fantastic recording studios. These preset kits have been put together to meet the needs of modern drummers.

The module and most of the sounds are the best parts of the kit. If you watch actual review videos and not just kit playing samples, you would know, like every Alesis e-kit, there are flaws, issues, and too many cons. One day, Alesis may come out with a kit worth buying. For about the sane amount of money or less the competition has better e-kits. I feel Alesis comes out with a great kit concept, but instead of dialing it in so it works properly and better, they rush it out to sell. Alesis is getting better, but all their e-kits need work. Alesis seems to come out with "flagship" e-kits that, in many ways, are better than the last kit but still not a perfectly working kit worth buying.

⁠@@IamadrummerI’ve watched several review videos over the last few days, and haven’t seen many complaints or concerns. One dealer mentioned a lockup on the module that seemed to resolve after a firmware update. Another mentioned the rack clamps perhaps not being up to par. Maybe a couple of other minor concerns. I can’t find reviews from non-dealers however. What negatives have you heard? I want to see a thorough review of the hi-hat, but the reviews so far range from saying it’s passable to excellent.

I typically listen on my commutes back and forth to work, so not looking at the screen too much, lol! Excellent work by the way, on the review and playing through all the kits. Great grooves and fills to demonstrate the sounds and playability! Would you say the hi-hat is on par with a VH-13 with a Roland module? I haven’t bought the VH-14 digital hats for my TD-50 yet, but was thinking some of that $1000+ could go towards a new Strata Kit. 😂

@fartpooboxohyeah8611I tend to agree. I still think the Mimic Pro module is a better sounding module. However, I’ve always had a preference for the Toontrack and Slate stuff over BFD. If Toontrack ever gets into the module game it would be game over!

Great demo. Roland is supposed to be the leader in electronic drums, but Alesis is beating them with this module. Roland modules still look like they're in the 1990s.

Thanks for this! Impressive. I'm happy to see the great state of Texas so well represented. Clearly TX and NY dominate the drum kit naming battle!! The versatility of this kit is so great. Frankly, they all sound pretty good to me, but what do I know? Well, what I do know is that in my case it isn't the drumkit that's the limitation, it's my abilities. Percussion instruments are quickly becoming obsolete if not extinct. We are quickly getting to the point where there is no reason not to go E-kit. I wonder how much of the kit price is due to the libraries. Perhaps, if they could produce an offering with fewer kit sounds at a lower price, it would be even more popular. This kit represents a leap-frog in technology. Thanks again! Great playing!

Hey, thanks for the nice comment! The kit price is down to the quality of the components and largely the module (which is essentially a computer running the software with all the drum sounds). I personally think the price is fair considering everything you get with this kit, and how it performs! But there are cheaper Alesis lines too.

@@GideonWaxman Do you know what the warranty is on this product? I saw a post that said the E-Drums as a whole are not that reliable and they last about a year. I'm having a hard time believing that a $3500 kit will only last a year. I can see how the sensors could have issues if one beats the heck out of them, but I would think overall these products should last a long time.

You can! Alesis told me specifically you can do this but you would need to modify the rack by using the longer left piece as the central part to accommodate for 3 toms up top.

The reason why I still play my TD 11! 😢😂 I know at some point there’s gonna be something coming out that is absolutely what everybody wants. I feel they are closer than ever now but there’s gonna be a cheaper version of this kit I believe in the next year or so that’s gonna be it! I’m hoping by Summer and for less than 2,000. Or, I’ll just buy the module and build another kit. And believe it or not my TD 11 from 2015 really isn’t that bad IF you know how to play and work with the sounds. And, I can’t do any fast Tom rolls unless both hands are on two different Toms 😂

There is no snare throw off, but you can create your own kits that have snares without the wires on

First your playing is very nice! Otherwise , Kit sounds good. I have strike pro with total custom imported library and sounds as good or better. Fact that this new module only has four assignable outputs is a dealbreaker for me anyway, but I don't think people who have the strike should feel like they need to run out and get this kit. Of course, the pads and symbols and some of the features are certainly really nice but it's just not necessaryfor us strike owners to dig it and get this kit. It's not a significant upgrade when it comes to sound

Hi Bruce, yes I've had it for a few months now! Build quality is great, I've had no issues whatsoever. I'm also experimenting more with creating new preset kits by adjusting more parameters like dampening, ambience, swapping out kit components etc.

There's a whole range from Zildjian, Sabian, Paiste, and Meinl! I recall there being a lot of Sabian HHX Complex, Meinl Byzance, Zildjian A custom and K custom lines, and Paiste Masters and Signature lines,

Doubtful. It uses BFD. So if there is a Jordison patch on BFD out there, so I've heard you can load it... But if it comes from any other sampler vsti like Superior then my guess is no.

You can't load it on the module, but you can send midi or connect via USB and load the VST on your DAW.

If it was me that was making that choice, these are the things I would consider. 1. Intended use. Home/practice/live. If all three and Live is more intended. Will there be a sound engineer and what are his requirements. i.e. would a max of 6 outputs be sufficient. 2. Do you like the sounds? I am to believe there will be future sound expansions available and/or and editor in the future to add whatever sound you want. 3. And this one will be down to time, reliability. Nothing sucks harder than when something fails mid gig. 4. Cost. All told, I think this is a great kit and very worthy of the price. Hope you make the right choice for you.

I saw sweetwater sells an extended version of this kit with a total of 5 toms and 4 crashes, HH, and ride. Do you know if it's possible to connect more cymbals to the module beyond the 4 crashes, HH, ride of the extended kit?

In theory, if it works like other modules, you should be able to expand beyond the already expanded kit by using splitters because all the toms are dual zone and all of the crashes are triple zone. So you should, again in theory, be able to at least get 5 more drum or cymbal pads just from the toms alone but you'd have to have them all setup as single zone. You may also be able to get more by using splitters on the cymbals too but since they're triple zone and only use one cable, where most others use two, you may not be able to split those channels. Then again I could be totally wrong about all of this but that is how the majority of modules work, if it's a dual zone channel it can be split

I know the module has 13 trigger inputs total. Count em. Kick hat snare 4cymbals 5toms that is 12.... Like was mentioned, splitters could allow some trickery, but you lose some zones then. Considering this is a vsti in a box, I'd just as soon use my pc as the module. If you want max inputs, check out Megadrum. It was/is a homebuilt trigger interface that expands up to 48 inputs. But this package looks SO SOLID as a trigger and module, and the price ain't bad for all that you get.

You will have no problem connecting single zone pads. Dual and triple zones have issues due to different cabling

Just a few seconds. Takes about 20 seconds for the module to turn on.

Alesis JUST DESTROYED the aound module market. I'm sorry. BFD is an old name in this business, so many sample sets came after BFD.... BUT ZERO MANUFACTURERS have built a vsti into their module.... And to me that means that we all expect to connect through usb and trigger Superior or Drumkit from Hell and the module is essentially worthless... This is the first and only module to give us a vsti in it, and wven give us per sample vst effects.... This is like a whole 2 generation jump for sound modules. Alesis really outdid themselves with this module.

Not only that...bfd is an old name but it does sound better than sd3 which is the closest competitor terms of detail. Their software is not as nice UI wise as sd3 but still king in terms of the quality of the samples. If this is bfd3 built in, it's pretty amazing.

@@xgreconah trigger bfd3. Bfd3 is still my go to vst for production when it comes to sound. Sd3 is the other one I use a lot. Ezdrummer is not inthe same league as either. It honestly is amazing they put bfd inside. I however would imagine a roland td50 would still have superior triggering fidelity though for the bfd3 vst

I have this and a Roland td27kv, the Roland is totally superior in every way, I bought it thinking that it would be better than the strike pro se but I was wrong, the sound module seems unrealistic to me compared to a Roland td27

Subjective I guess? I've played both and owned a Td50. The Strata is fantastic in my opinion. The Td27 still has better nuance and triggering but not by much. It would be a hard choice for me.
