Thx for the nice reaction. As you said, you don't know Alestorm and Patty, this will be a long reply... First of all, Alestorm. They are a pirate-metal band that was once founded in Perth, Scotland, but nowadays the members are scattered over the world. The singer, Chris Bowes, lives in the US right now. And in case you didn't noticed - he wears a hook in this video, because his arm was broken at that time and they had to cover it up. Alestorm is most famous for funny metal songs like "Drink" or "Mexiko" but they make some serious stuff now and then and this is one of the more serious songs from them. They have worked together with Patty Gurdy before, when they wanted a hurdy-gurdy in their songs on their last two albums, but this is the first song she was involved in the songwriting as well. Patty Gurdy, 26, is an independent (no management, no label, she even cuts her own videos as she has a B.A. in communication design) hurdy-gurdy player and singer/songwriter from Germany. She chose her artist-name for the same reason she started her own youtube-channel in 2016 - to promote her most loved instrument (she can play a couple of others as well) and to expand the knowledge of the hurdy-gurdy into the "mainstream". For this she does own songs and covers in different styles from opera/musical to pop/dance-pop to medieval and metal as well as videos to explain the hurdy-gurdy. She has also made collabs with a couple of bands like Alestorm, Subway to Sally, Feuerschwanz (New album on April 19 with a song Pattys feat. in), dArtagnan, Ayreon (Album: Transitus), Scardust (Israel, prog-metal - think about checking out their underrated masterpiece "Concrete Cages" with Patty, which was designed by Orr Didi, the bassist, to show how a hurdy-gurdy can be at the center of prog-metal but also includes fantastic solos of the other instruments and the awesome vocals of Noa Gruman of course) and others. Pattys youtube-channel has now nearly 72 million views - not bad for an independet artist, I like to say. And as you mentioned Scotland - one of her first (and most successful) videos was her hurdy-gurdy-multilayered-version (means: all instrumental parts are made with the hurdy-gurdy in different settings) with a Scottish producer and it contains some pictures of Scotland as well: "The longing", written by her originally for a German pirate-metal band while she was a member of it. Patty is currently working on a new album with "tavern-folk-music". Her last music video was a cover of the first half (less than 2 minutes) of Nightwish's "Last ride of the day" with the musical parts played on her hurdy-gurdy and a tenor nyckelharpa (a Swedish folkinstrument) and many of her fans hope for a full version on the upcoming album. Her last public appearance was as guest-musician on Alestorms UK-tour (just finished) - she played 6 songs with them on each gig. Hopefully they do more gigs and songs together. I'm optimistic for that because all we could see/hear was that they had a really good time on that tour.

Alestorm have alot of pure ridiculous fun songs like Drink, P.A.R.T.Y or F'cked with an Anchor, Voyage of the Dead Marauder is quite serious in comparison to those. They have collaborated with Patty Gurdy prior to this, among others, she did guest vocals on Zombies Ate My Pirate Ship. Besides her solo stuff, she did features for several artists from the alternative rock/ folk metal scene. You might also like: Subway to Sally: Veitstanz (2014 Version) (Live) feat. Saltatio Mortis, Schandmaul, Feuerschwanz, Chris Harms (not in the video as he was connected via stream), MajorVoice, Patty Gurdy. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-bs0DhveZxAY.html The original version was released as a promo single for the 2001 album Herzblut (Lifeblood), in 2014 they started doing a 're-imagined' version. This performance was filmed in 2021. Veitstanz (St. Vitus Dance) is a term for a neurological disease (Sydenham's Chorea) but also referring to a social phenomenon called Tanzwut (literally Dance Rage, English term Dancing Mania), mainly happening during the 14th and the 15th century and mostly in continental Europe. It made groups of people dance erraticly and uncontrollably until they collapsed, some even died from exhaustion. It has never been conclusively clarified what triggered it. Subway To Sally, Saltatio Mortis, Schandmaul & Feuerschwanz are folk rock/ medieval metal bands, Chris Harms is the lead singer of the goth rock/ gothic metal band Lord of the Lost, MajorVoice is a goth rock solo artist.

"Veitstanz" is really a good one, but you won't see that much of Patty in it as she only played one of two hurdy-gurdys (the other one played by Bodenski, the guitarrist of Subway to Sally) and didn't sing at all. If you want to look at a funnier song with her, you could check out "Kaufmann und Maid" from "Sasha the Bard" with nearly everybody of the German medieval-rock-"society", who couldn't run away fast enough to avoid that (just kidding of course). It was published after a tv-show mocked some people with saying that Sasha (famous in Germany for Pop-songs) was testing out new genres, including medieval stuff. Well, the medieval-rock-bands liked the idea (and love making fun of their own genre all the timel), approached Sasha and the complete nonsense song was published and became quite successful... ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-K4T5NEiyK5g.html
