honestly if you're not a drummer yourself you cant possibly fathom how complex this is to actually play as well as alex does . you can appreciate it yeah but im actually trying to air drum it right now and i can barley keep up
+NibiruX _ Exactly. No way they could possibly understand how impossible Abasi is to keep up with, and how Rudinger made it look fairly easy. Guy's leagues away from most drummers alive right now, for sure.
Honestly it’s not out of reach to play this, it’s a memory exercise more than anything else. Alex has an advantage because of his ability to read sheet music. But yeah the patterns aren’t complex or difficult to play they just change every bar so you have to know what’s coming, but yeah there’s certainly no winging it with feel if that’s what you mean.
@@boobtubenoob7061 Sorry but I gotta disagree. The patterns for this song are fucking ridiculous, particularly the breakdown. He’s playing absurdly complex polyrhythms over an extremely odd time signature, this is undoubtedly high-level advanced and difficult drumming. It’s not just because the patterns constantly change as you stated, although that does add to the difficulty for sure. The polyrhythms and constant meter changes are where the true difficulty lies. By the way, not trying to be a dick at all. I’ve been drumming for 17 years myself, having taken 8 years of lessons as well as being in drumline for 8 years, and I can tell you without a doubt most any high-level drummer who isn’t overly pretentious would tell you that this is extremely difficult and complex. If it’s not difficult to YOU, then you’re genuinely gifted and that’s awesome and I respect the hell out of that, but make no mistake, this shit is hard to play.
He explains that Travis Orbin advised him to try the open hand method to improve limb independence. Thats why he constantly change from one hand to the other in many of his videos. Amazing result in drum economy.
I was the guy that was in the back room of Frankies in Toledo last night, didn't have time to talk but just wanted to say it was a pleasure seeing you play live finally
It's so amazing watching the feet switch leads. 99% of drummers use one foot for leading beats and the other for secondarys.. He just uses both like they're lead feet
3 years later, I still can't figure out what the hell is going on with the drums in this song , it's way too complex for me lol But I'm not a drummer, so...
Hey man, I've had a few people ask me this so I went ahead and made a key. There is a dropbox link in the description now. I hope this helps, let me know if you (or anyone else) has anymore questions!
hey, dude. not to gush or anything…. but i think you're the best metal drummer i've ever heard. i literally never expected to find anyone that played like you (maybe i just gave up looking after a while :P). i'm not gay, but i totally have a huge man boner for your playing style. NEVER STOP DOING WHAT ONLY YOU CAN DO, BRO!!! YOU'RE AMAZING!!!
I wish I could do more than just like and favorite this. The amount of time and dedication to become this exceptional at your trade must be unfathomable. Great work.
Congrats on joining The Faceless bro! Good luck! Autotheism was my favourite album of last year... cannot wait to hear what you bring to the band on their next release with the talent you have. Good luck for the future! Love from South Africa. :)
Wow, never seen this video yet and now that I have just wow. I was expecting the same drum track from the album but instead I heard it made even harder to play, haha, absolutely destroyed that!
um...........i've had a different drummer on a pedestal for at least a decade....have realized that the competition was getting stronger but he was still king. After seeing this video....he has been de-throned! i'm speechless(not really, obviously) but this was an AWSOME video........live long and pound hard brother! peace
Liked, favorited, shared. This is just incredible. I would type a longer comment about how there's a black hole forming next to me after watching this video, but my brains are still trying to process what the hell just happened.
I thought he was open handed until I saw other videos of his. Both his left and right sides are equally strong. Dudes a freaking beast. And he reads his music. I can only wish I could do that.
The best of this song by FAR on youtube! really great job dude \m/ I are incredibly tight on the double bass and the snare, and amazing passion! 11/10 ;)
He's said before in response to a similar comment that he reads manuscripts while playing because he often listens to just a click track in his headphones for most, if not all of his covers. Plus it's just easier to be able to look up and remember what to play if you forget.
If Alex transcribes drums the same way Travis Orbin does - look up the video "Pixieprog" and there should be a link to a key for the guitar pro transcriptions in the description. For example 40 is the snare drum and if the number is faded slightly it denotes a ghost note.
Holy shit dude. Now that I see more of you, i'm just incredibly impressed in the fact that you play fully mirrored. I have no idea if you are left or right handed. Thats just sick. I only know one other drummer that is this good that can do that and that is Mike Mangini.
@awesomedrummer14 they are Vic firth ms4's one of the heaviest sticks, definitely can take a beating, actually meant to be played on Kevlar heads made out of stapack wood.
First of all, amazing playing as always..I love seeing new videos come up in my homepage Quick question though, were you inspired/did you get ideas about this setup from Orbin a while back? Or did you just come to this setup by yourself?
Hey bro, i have been inspired by your drumming sense you have started a while back. I have followed you sense your first video and i seriously think you should of got the gig for AAL! but just wanna let you know your a amazing drummer and i hope the best for you man!
I've noticed a lot of the good drummers have their beaters up high on the kick pedal so they contact the drum head at a higher point. Anyone have any insight on this? It appears to make the playing smoother almost like using your fulcrum point on a stick. I also noticed he uses his feet and ankle pivot to generate higher speeds. I've been playing for 9 years and the only way I can generate consistent speed is the heel toe technique.
Andy S he is using a 20 inch bass drum in this vid so I think it seems higher rather center if it were a bigger diameter 22inch bassdrum. but this has an effect on the rebound because the center of any drumhead has the most flex and deadens the rebound you get. so hitting towards the outer portion will aid in this. it's the same idea as holding your drumsticks, you hold them towards the bottom and sometimes having longer sticks allows better momentum and feel. and some ppl tend to hit towards the outside portion of the snare on blast beats to gain the same effect of rebound.
i've thinking a lot on his sticks and came up with the same idea. Still im not completely sure since i have only used a pair of them for practicing purposes. Thanks for giving such valuable info dude.
Lots of people talk about this, and you have to consider that it's not like he's reading and playing to it for the first time. He transcribed it all himself, and has probably practised it a dozen times as well. The transcript is to remind him of things; he's not going to look up and see something he wasn't prepared for, you know?
Watching your videos for a year now I became increasingly curious about the evans Hybrid head. How long does it actually last and how much does it cut the snare "ring"? Judging on web info, it seems to be a serious option for heavy hitters and I'm thinking of buying one
Ooh, may I ask why you quit Threat Signal? So, you've joined Animals as leaders? If so, I'm so happy for you and wish the best luck! I think your playstyle will fit in just great in that genre! :-) Don't forget to come visit Sweden! :-) // Addie
