Alexander plays the second movement rather differently from any other performance I've ever heard, and it's quite remarkable. He brings something new to virtually everything he plays, and we're all made richer for it.

I played only the first movement of this concerto at age 22. It was 55 pages long.Took me three years to learn, memorize, and perform with my university symphony orchestra. I was practicing three hours a day. My fingers were calloused because of all the forte pounding in octave scales. It was one of the top highlights of my life. I asked a professional concert pianist how long he took to learn this entire concerto and he said three months. That is the difference between an amateur like me and a professional. The levels of piano playing are many with wide chasms between them.

Thank you Alexander! Your work is magnificent! All of it. Bravo - and double Bravo! You understanding of and sensitivity to, every passage, every note, is a thing of beauty to behold - and to hear. My heart hasn’t raced with excitement for any pianist for awhile now. And since a week ago, I cannot stop listening to you and watching these videos. Thank you again. You are now almost 20 and your playing and mastery has intensified. I feel that the orchestra members themselves are inspired by you. I think we all are.

Stumbled across this somehow. This is amazing, and the level of talent from such a young age. He may very well become the very best in history. I love his interview where he states that he practices 10-12 hours every day, and that is not to improve his talent, but to improve himself. WOW! Shame on the two orchestra members in the horn section on opposite sides of the piano lid for carrying on a private conversation, with smirks and chatter, during Alexander's encore performances. I guess they didn't realize that their body language was quite visible to the audience--those in attendance physically as well as on RU-vid. I've just discovered this young man's extraordinary talent and have watched many of his RU-vid presentations. I'm guessing that he's nearing the age of 18--hopefully his brilliance will continue to inspire us for many years to come!

Such mastery! Such control! Such sensitivity! Wonderful wonderful! Poor start from the orchestra. They were thinking " oh not this again!" but he soon got them remembering what a wonderful piece that concerto is. As to the encores. Bravissimo Alex!

Alexander at 29:15 - 29:20...it was like he was conducting...especially at the very end of that segment! So much music in his very soul!

If he chooses, his tempi and interpretation will leave the world stunned as Alexander Malofeev continues to take his own place along side Richter, Rubinstein, Horowitz, Argerich, and his own colleague Trifonov. He is his own star at his craft and only he can make the decisions to proceed. He has stunning talent, a good ear, an elephant's memory...looking forward to more and even better music here.

It's just incredible watching a 15-yo perform this concerto so beautifully!! Add to that the amazing encores he played!! BRAVO Alexander Malofeev!! This same year he also performed the Rachmaninoff Concerto No.2...also beautifully. Amazing talent!!

I just watched Yu Ja Wang on this concerto yesterday. I prefer Alexander’s interpretation.

This masterful youth and his commanding presence are responsible for the revitalization of my pleasurable, but previously fading, interest in classical piano. I had grown weary of listening, over and over again, to the usual doyens and their elder recordings, which grew to seem lifeless to my ear, almost mechanical and uninspired, and came to have the wholly opposite effect that this master now has on me. The great reservoir of inner emotion and passion Master Malofeev magically infuses into his work produces a quality of sound and tone that is incomparable, and is undoubtedly due to dedicated preparation that thankfully has been joined with his now revealed singular genius. An especial joy to watch and hear perform any piano piece, I look forward to many years of his wonderful performances in future.

Alexander Malofeev IS the MUSIC and the heart and soul of Russia. I pray he lives a long life playing great music. One wonders if he will ever compose music? If reincarnation exists one wonders if he had been a great composer? Truly Alexander Malofeev is a gift to music and the world.

Гергиев же мог бы местами фортиссимо несколько убавить, чтобы не заглушать рояль полностью, как это иногда случалось тутошки. В целом доволен исполнением, возвращаюсь иногда, чтобы вновь насладиться слышанием. Браво!!!

How could the audience not be standing up and shouting "bravo"? Is it snobbish at La Scala (if indeed the performance is there) because the Italian soul certainly would be warmly boisterous with praises and accolades! Well, I am certainly praying that this young man will keep growing both in heart and soul as he gives us the Russian soul restored somewhat after communist atrocities against their people. God bless Alexander and his family in sharing his talent and spiritual grace with us.
