Святые люди есть! И он-один из них! Я была потрясена этой мучительной и одновременно возвышенной,само сжигающей «работой» дирижёра, когда увидела документальный фильм о нём. Так страдать,добиваясь совершенства,может только великий человек. Спасибо,Вам ,за светлые лица слушателей в вашем видео,особенно-девочки! С Новым Годом Вас, ДОРОГОЙ…! 8.01.2024.

Note in this marvelous recording made in the Great Hall of Moscow Conservatory that choir and soloist sing the second work vocalise. The words of its sacred liturgical text are not enounced. This must have been in the 1960s, during the “Thaw” - around the same time Sveshnikov made his legendary recording of the “All-Night Vigil” with the State Academic Russian Chorus.

That thaw must have been pretty early because the second piece is sung without its text, which is the choral portion of the holiest point of the orthodox Divine Liturgy. Such texts were banned by the atheist Communist regime…. But there are indeed “lyrics” to that music.

@@elizabethledkovsky7722 certainly, but for instance the 1965 recording of "All-Night Vigil" in which Sveshnikov led the Russian State Academic Chorus was intended for export and was not freely available inside the Soviet Union. I am not sure at what point "All-Night Vigil", the "Liturgy of St. John Chrysostom", and other sacred works of Rachmaninoff were officially permitted to be performed publicly again -- but I'm very sure it wasn't any time in the 1960s... It would seem that at this time the only way to perform a sacred work such as this was to dispense with the text, precisely as done here...
