This session with Suki shows the relevance of The Alexander Technique for Stress. It demonstrates how the Technique can reduce the habitual fight flight response that so many of us experience on a daily and habitual basis.
Anthony Kingsley has pioneered a unique way of offering Alexander Technique support Online. Of course, the essential beauty and power of the Technique resides in direct communication via the hands of a highly skilled Alexander Teacher. But during this challenging time, we may need a space to quieten our nervous systems, and recover a sense of balance and harmony.
In his Alexander sessions, Anthony can help you retune yourselves, experience an uplifting of the body and mind, and deal much more effectively with the demands and stress of daily life.
Anthony is also a trained psychotherapist, and offers embodied psychotherapy sessions and a safe space for emotional learning and processing.

I came here for ASMR purposes and now I'm totally intrigued by this technique. Definitely going to look into this. As far as unintentional ASMR goes these vids are fantastic. Tingles galore.

Sometimes I watch these videos and question how helpful stuff like this can be, but HOLY CRAP this woman was visibly tense at the start of this video and completely unaware of it. How do people live like that?

The dialogue around the 31-minute mark where he talks about the constant anticipation of emergencies is pretty interesting. I don't believe I've heard that before in an Alexander lesson.

@@AlexanderTechnique33 They are indeed, thank you for asking.Been reading about Alexander Technique via different resources such as Richard Brennan's books and your and your colleagues' videos. Your videos help me understand where tension can build up in the body and how "inhibition" feels like. I often find myself placing a hand on the top of my chest when trying to stop myself from reacting impulsively to stress.

to think we were flawlessly poised as toddlers- then came school with its regime of filing into class to slouch over and sag on uniform chairs and desks- perhaps contorting ur head and hand fixating on "getting it right"-- the school setting somehow caused everyone 2 disconnect from their kinaesthetic sense- and consciousness(actual or conceptual) was never mentioned

My daughter is in kindergarten and she started our with having to carry a laptop to and from school, I kept thinking of a college student 😳 not a little kid. I cannot imagine what this is doing to the kids spines and posture. 😞

The trouble is the fight/ flight thing happens so automatically that to suppress it takes conscious effort. I guess it's something you can learn or become accustomed to when you figure out what situations trigger it but then a new stress factor comes along.

I don't think the point is to never feel the fight/flight ever again, but rather to not become a prisoner of it. Kind of like how the goal of meditation isn't to never think again, but rather to be able to let thoughts go and not be a slave to them. In this way we can put thinking in it's proper place and have it serve us rather than us serve it. And a similar thing could probably be said about the fight / flight response.

@@AlexanderTechnique33 yes sir. Hey, i have an observation i made from your classes.. do you think your students are holding themselves too upright? Is that something you fix in a later session with them? I ask that in a non judgmental way I too suffered from chronic back pain after several accidents and procedures but after many many years I’m doing better, thank God, and the Alexander technique :)

The Alexander technique sort of reminds of that scene from Forgetting Sarah Marshall where Paul Rude is teaching dude how to surf, and tells him to do nothing... has anyone seen that? lol... I wonder if this is where he got that from.
