Rebecca does um, but only at the very beginning, once she is in her stride helping students this disappears, so I think it was just a little nervousness. She's a wonderful instructor, anyone she teaches is very blessed to have her help.
This is such an easy to understand and simple AT lesson, this is the first that actually made sense to me that I can start applying to my life right now. The others videos are, confusing to understand and usually make me fall asleep because the asmr is too relaxing lol.
I really liked the speaker overall. Yes, she has that verbal tic, but so do many, many of us. If we paid attention to ourselves, we would discover the same. The content is fascinating and so elemental. I am happy I viewed this.
Interesting talk, I'm going to be paying more attention to how I sit from now on. I never noticed the "ums", even after I read some of these comments. The people complaining about the "ums" are probably Toastmasters types (only interested in zero-content, yet flawlessly presented talks.)
Oh, her "um"s aren't bad! You guys are so finicky. I wish the students weren't all so terrified... it distorted the ways they carried themselves and partly defeated the demonstrations.
Yes, she needs to work on her "um's" but she was amazing otherwise, and it is an excellent example of the way the technique works. I took personal private lessons with an AT instructor and there were things this lady taught I didn't know.
i owe so much to the alexander technique ..really understood what the teacher (here) meant about getting "set" ..further ,its easier to say what its not than what it is .. its not posture or therapy, etc
I really appreciated the video, myself being a student going regulary to AT teacher, it's very intresting to see other people being worked at, and to notice the difference in their performance and to hear their own observations. Truely intresting work! Thanks!
An interesting video for YT to choose for me to see after watching an "Initial AT" video!! It's disturbing to watch the upper torso of the instructor be held back with hips forward, and to see her not address the use of the torso in these students, so that it lengthens! Anyone whose interest in AT is piqued here must watch the "CGC" series by (trained AT instructor) by Jeando Masoero.
I find Ajan Brahm makes great speeches. Nothing rehearsed, nothing prepared. Very eloquent and pleasant to listen to. He probably doesn t know about the Alexander Technique but his meditation prowess help him in the same way the Alexander Technique helps her.
Thank you very much for this. ! It's just amazing Alexander helped me with my back. Now looking for an answer to sore hands play piano What you said is very interesting I hope one day people learn this method in schools From an early age all over the world I wish you all the best
bonjour , je voudrais savoir es ce que la technique d Alexander travail sur les sentiment du faite du changement de posture et du toucher ? Hello, I would like to know what the technique of Alexander work on the feeling of the change of posture and touch?
I thought the origin of the Alexander technique was that he was trying to improve his golf swing? Is the next video going to be about how Alexander was a chef trying to make the perfect omlet.
Higgins_123 You could take it a step further and really torture yourself. Rules are real simple, for every "um" you gotta rub one out and blow your load into a Dora the Explorer cereal bowl (with built in straw). If at any point you are unable to spooge, you gotta drink the contents of the Dora the Explorer cereal bowl (utilizing the built in straw). Then you rest for 5 minutes, and restart the video. Simple, fun, and quite the challenge.
For some reason, on my machine, the sound did not quite synchronise with the visuals - which was a bit disconcerting. It is a shame, because in all other respects, this is a brilliant video showing a high quality of Alexander Technique teacher at work.
The girl looks so uncomfortable for a while, just doing what the lady says, like I better play good so she doesnt criticize, and she criticizes FOREVER ugh
Sorry, but this Alexander technique sounds like a load of dingoes’ kidneys to me. People got along just fine for hundreds of millennia without someone telling them how to stand up straight.
Alexander was a Tasmanian brought up in a family nuts about horses. He learned the concept of" good use" from his family who would deliberately seek out horses which contorted less and moved more freely with less extraneous movement. If you can't see the difference between ease and tension maybe you should not be so sure of yourself. Many flautist and violinists have their careers shortened by pain because it is so easy to get into bad habits with an instrument that demands asymmetry. To learn not to brace is vital to longtime survival as a professional musician
Jennifer Dyster All that may be true, but I fail to see the relevance. For about 3/4 of a century after Darwin published The Descent of Man, the common notion was that the crucial adaptation was the enlargement of the brain and that the rest followed that. However, anthropological discoveries revealed that the truth was diametrically opposite: the crucial adaptation was upright walking (and standing). Humans are the only truly bipedal mammals. The upright (antigravity) posture requires exquisite coordination of bones, muscles and the nervous system which took millions of years of evolution to achieve. The ability to stand and walk upright, like the ability to talk, is inborn in every human being and appears spontaneously without needing to be taught. Even people with bad posture manage to stay upright without falling over. And there's no human bring alive who won't suffer at least transitory back and/or neck pain at some time in their life. As I see it, the benefits of this Alexander technique are prodigiously overstated.
@@JMDinOKC if you watch kids you will note that posture is very good when they were beginning to walk. By 12 yrs of age it's often awful in the West especially , (sedentary pursuits), often improves with development of self esteem (end puberty early adult) : by then a lot of cultural conditioning to do with image overrides an individual's proprioception.Alexander technique and Feldenkreis aim to put people back in touch with finding ease of movement from within instead of complying with demands : chest out head up.chin in belly in no balls at all - the military and ballet oddly enough often produce bad backs. The aches and pains the flesh is their to are a product of use in part. Not all the changes organisms make are beneficial. The selection of good traits does not reside in the individual in the long term.
The kid with the braids in the brown shirt is a punk. Always got some little look to make about any comment the instructor says. Looking back behind her(?) .
Tunguska - Is that what it is? I did not know that just because someone is nervous and uneasy, they are allowed to be markedly rude by gesturing and displaying behaviors that also cause others to feel the same as they do.
@@ThatsTheWayItGoes There is no rudeness in this video. You're either incapable of reading the situation or are culturally ill-equipped to deal with it. Culture shock can be challenging, so you have my sympathies.
@@tunguska-1454 Hello. It’s always nice to hear unsolicited feedback on my opinion. I find it to be all-telling that you accuse me of incorrectly interpreting the behavior. Perhaps it is your own nescience that is preventing you from realizing that this is all speculative. Your observation is yours. Mine is mine.
@@ThatsTheWayItGoes My feedback was solicited by your engagement. A little human empathy and understanding of anxiety coupled with being the unknowing participant of someone else's demonstration in front of an audience would have more than sufficiently equipped you to better grasp the situation rather than attack a kid behind a veil of anonymity.
Here's a partial transcript. This video could have been much better done. “UM so welcome UM my name is Rebecca Tuffey and UM professionally I teach the Alexander Technique UM.”
umm, umm, umm, UMM UMM UMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM SHIT SHIT UMM. umm I shouldn't..umm..be..umm... mean to...ummm..this lady. I cannot listen to people who do this..
