Alexander Volkanovski's 10-Fight Win Streak to Start UFC Career 

Volk getting choked for that long scrambling getting caught in another choke and then still having the ability to swing his arms to beat the dog piss out of Ortega has to be some of the craziest shit I've seen in my life

Volkanovski has been such a surprise. Who would expect a former rugby player who once weighed over 200lbs to become a great featherweight champion. It’s such an unusual path to greatness. Really respect the guys fight IQ and ability to do exactly what needs to be done to win, from one fight to the next. Also, escaping multiple locked-in submissions in the Ortega fight, escalated him to the upper echelon of all time featherweight champs. Much respect ✊🏼

I almost stomped a hole in the floor watching Volk and Ortega. Brian showed some damn heart in that fight.

You can never bet against this man!Anyone that out strikes max is on another level.There are levels to this game and he’s definitely at the top.

Ortega BJJ is so fluid. He goes from submission attempt to submission attempt so effortlessly and it just flows. Amazing. And Volk just forced his way through it all to win a tough victory. He’s a beast. Insane fight.

The only reason why a lot of people hate Volkanovski was because his rise to the championship wasn't that well-known. He ascended silently and won the title from Max out of nowhere. Don't let the hate stop you from admitting that the guy's a beast.

My favorite was the fight against Brian Ortega. What a war of determination by both of them. Herb Dean was clearly about to stop the fight at the end, but there was a matter of seconds left before the bell. If it wasn’t two of the greatest fighters in an extremely important match that fight would have been stopped, even if there was five seconds left. Volkanovski was dropping bombs.

Rugby footwork and leg strength from bodying 200lbs+ Polynesians. Absolute beast

One of the most complete fighters right now. Great stamina, great power, great striking, great wrestling, great ground game.

Lets face it, Volkanovsky is an absolute beast. Scary fighter.

Featherweight GOAT right there. Only argument against it is how long Aldo defended his title, but the competition back then was nowhere near what it is today.

The way Volk was trapped in that mount guillotine made him look like strangled prey with his legs shaking helplessly but it was not in vain. It just makes it more impressive how he survived, broke the grip and came back to punish and pummel his choker twice.

Everytime i see Volk i always remember the moment how he looked at Ortega's face inches apart while being in a choked position. His eyes were just plain destruction. Imposing that conquerors haki. Insanity.

The most under appreciated fighter In ufc, I see him rule that division for a while longer, a division of killers, his will to win is very rare

what a beast he could go down as one of the greatest featherweights. Brian ortega took him to the deepest waters and he came back like a champ. a win over the much respected and loved TKZ would be big on his resume

That defense against Ortega was impressive AF. Alexander wasn’t having any of that submission BS and he let Brian know it.

The real UFC Bantamweight and Featherweight champion’s have a lot in common. Both haven’t actually lost a fight in like forever they’re built like mini tanks and they only get stronger as the bout goes on. It’s always great seeing both of them putting on master clinics on the same card, Makes things a lot more exciting.

A very tough guy and a very nice person at the same time. Reminds me of GSP.

His ground n pound is a excellent haven’t seen much of it once he got to the top of the division naturally but man you really saw it was legit in the Ortega fight he messed him up on the ground in t city’s guard no one else could do that

I’m born and raised from Hawaii. Max is by far my favorite fighter in this weight class because of my roots and max is just about as like able a fighter in the ufc could be character wise. That said I do truly truly respect Volkanovsky can do in the cage. He really is a beast.

Those escapes from Ortega are some of the best of all time, not to mention back to back in the same scramble.

Great compilation to see how much his style has changed over his career in the UFC. Came in as this wrestle-boxer who would put people on the ground and then just beat them up with pace and pressure. Then he has his big coming out party against Mendes (where people expected he would lose against a man who also wrestles and boxes, but is better/hits harder), and he comes out with a feint heavy game, and using a good jab, to now, where he's always striking, but also has the GnP in his back pocket like he did to Ortega. He's continued to evolve and get better and better.

Volk is so powerful for 145… it’s crazy how he never has a reach advantage yet outstrikes every opponent. One of the best 145 pounders ever, if not the best.

The way he just walks over to him at 1:12 is so badass, he knew it was over🔥

Dude has such great fight instinct/IQ. Very well rounded too, he’s gonna be a great champ.

14:59 let's not forget the referee allowed brian to lay down on his back for entire 1 min, and made him to recover his concsiousness to continue the later rounds.

What a beast, a guy I work with trains with him and he was a beast when he knew him long before UFC.

That’s how good Brian is though on the ground he landed that punch, chased the neck and put him in the guillotine. He took a flurry of punches and still put him in a triangle. Although he lost a lot of respect for both men. Both have heart.

That round sequence w Ortega. Almost choked out twice in 15 seconds and still has the savegery to rain down shots.

'I am Max Holloway's worst nightmare.' Those words carry so much more weight now than they did then. Say what you will about the second fight but it was razor close; and Volk definitely won the first

And to think, there's even more highlights to add to this video with the Korean zombie and the third Holloway fight. That one minute with T-City, 2 serious submission attempts then Alex finishing off the round with some legendary ground and pound, that was one of the most exciting minutes in UFC championship history. Respect to both men. Also respect to Holloway, that guy literally fights too the finish even when he knows he is so far behind on points. I love Max Holloway he is a bloody superhero but as an Australian I love to support our Aussie fighters, and Volkanovski is a champion in every sense of the word.

The card this weekend could age like fine wine in a couple years, possibly having the 3 best p4p fighters all on it

The dude objectively beat Holloway twice, but because people don't know how mma scoring works, so many gave Holloway the 2nd fight and it has led to people knocking the guy like crazy.

Volk will be P4P #1 before the end of the year. Likely will be the best Featherweight up to this point, and could be on the GOAT list if he can capture a second title.

When you play 2nd grade pro rugby in nsw (by far the most competitive sport in nsw Australia) in the prop position, the most physical position on the field (where the average player in that position are 120kg/250pounds+ monsters) and not just that, win the leagues mvp medal…in comparison the 145 pounders look tiny - Alex has said as much in interviews. That environment, and the determination it took be successful there in it as a 5’6er I believe translated to his massive domination now, and remember he only start MMA at something like 26 or 27. Here’s a man who wouldn’t let his size define him, all the cards were stacked again him. He came from no money and risked everything with his young family (taking out loans and holding community fundraisers to get over and train with Tiger muy tai in the hopes to chase his dream. Love you Volko and thankyou coach Joe Lopez for finding and taking on this totally unique talent

Ever since the Chad Mendes fight, I thought Volk would lose. Thought Chad would outwrestle him, thought Aldo would brutalize him, thought Max would obliterate him, twice, thought Ortega would submit him. But each time he proved me wrong and I doubted him for far too long. He's on his way to being one of the greatest of all-time. And I went from shrugging him off to being a big fan. I don't see anyone beating him either.

Super smart and universal martial artist and great video. In each fight he never underestimated anyone and always had steel-strong patience. Great boxing basics and super fast hands with bombs!

Volk is such a beast my goodness.

The problem with fighting Volk is that when you jump in to attack him he's throwing right back at you and he has great instincts when his head is down. He seems to know exactly where your head is going to be and keeps his head down so you can't land anything on the parts you want to hit. For fighters like Holloway who like to look straight ahead when they strike its a nightmare.

Volkanovski kind of reminds me of mini-Rocky Marciano. Rocky, was known to train hard for every fight and was always in phenomenal shape. And when it was fight time, he went 100%. He threw every punch with power and didn't stop until the opponents can't take anymore of it. The vibe I get from Volkanovski is very similar to his!

I like this guy. For everything. Punch power. Wrestling. GnP.
