Just so everyone is aware the fragrances matured/macerated for a couple months before I actually did the review. The reason I point this out is that often if someone does not like a Dua or Alexandria fragrance they're told to "let it sit for a month/two weeks and then come back to it because the smell improves over time". While this brings up the question "If you know it won't be complete/ready for another couple weeks why not just let it mature for a couple weeks and then sell the customer a fragrances that's actually ready?" I figured I would let everyone know that yes, these fragrances did macerate.
Interesting tidbit, I hadn't heard that before. Of course my thought is the companies don't care if it's fully ready or not, they just want to make a buck right now. Just a guess though. :)
I’m pretty sure DUA is aggressive in terms of the fragrance being “ready”.....I know I’ve received a fragrance when the perfumer releases and immediately DUA releases it.....after a month or so it’s very close!...Originally it wasn’t even close.

Great review. I agree 100% with your take on Hafez 1984. I don’t have any of the others reviewed here but I will say my favorites, so far, from the house are: #1 Arabian Horse (PdM Herod), #2 Zion (Elysium), #3 Santal Kiss (LeLabo 33), #4 Seven Seas (Creed Viking), #5 Hawaii Volcano (Virgin Island Water). There are more but these for now are my top 5.
I always search for your reviews, and a couple of others, before I purchase. I did recently purchase African Magic, and I am thinking that sometime over the last four years they tweaked it. It's actually pretty smooth, in fact, maybe even a little soft. I like it though. Also for any newcomer reading this, Alexandria still puts their bottled in the nice velvet bags, at least the 60ml and 100ml bottles. Thanks again.
I really like Hafez 1984 and I have the 60ml bottle. I’ve been wanting to try Interplay Extrait. So I would choose Interplay Extrait. Straight forward and honest as always. Great review.
I’ve tried a few Alexandria samples and I definitely think the house has some good things going. I’d be interested in interplay extrait . I’m a thing for fragrances that lean toward the sweeter side of the spectrum
The hype is high on Hafez 1984 I still have not tried it, I have interplay and I do like it as its close to BR540. I would select Hafez 1984 to try. Thanks Ashton
Is it necessary to allow Alexandria's fragrances to macerate? I just purchased 4 bottles from them. Havent received them yet, but DUA'S fragrances always need time to gain longevity, and allow the scents to mix properly.
I been respecting this company more and more. Hany conducts himself very well and so far all the fragrances I have tried from his house i was very impressed with. His oud wood clone, his aventus clones, especially the prive version.. Crazy pineapple which is an original was awesome, better than most designers... Thanks for the review, always respect your objective and honest approach. I hope he doesn't have any batch inconsistencies judging by your take on oud wood.
Thanks for your review on these. I've quite enjoyed the frags I've smelled from Alexandria, but it's nice to hear what others have thought as well. I'm most interested in Interplay and Hafez 1984.

Great review. I've tried samples of some items from Alexandria but none of the items that you reviewed. With that said I've been most interested in trying out Interplay Extrait.
I have 4 of these fragrances including Hafez 1984 and yes a lot of their fragrances are labeled as clones and similar to other well known ones - personality I am okay with the presentation and I don’t need a high class bottle to enjoy a fragrances - I choose to only compare them on the quality of the juice and not so much on how similar they are to others and of course on what one can get on the marked for the same money. And a lot of their fragrances are high quality and more niche than designer quality - so if you want strong and great smelling juice for good value try them out.
Great breakdown and review. I sniffed African Leather about a month ago and fell in love with it. It was outside my price range however. African Magic would be my choice in the competition. Thanks.

California Winter. Might be feminine but I love that stuff I got a sample I find it so good. It smells like that Violet candy mint these two have back in the day. I think is the saffron they really pops off my skin that I like mixed with the leather

I'm wondering if you have smelled "The Best Life". I've been contemplating pulling the trigger on a high priced bottle of "The Goodlife" but that price tag is tough to swallow. If you have, do you recommend it?
DUA only offers 30 ml (1 oz) bottles, whereas Alexandria offers 60 ml (2 oz) bottles as well. I love agar, hafez ,and the interplay they all get me compliments everytime I wear them and they all last on my skin a long time I get at least 10 hours out of them

Fantastic review, the house is getting better and better. I have tried some before, and I really loved Citron del Mar, Apple Crumb and Hawaii Volcano, SMW clone was also very good. I would love to try Hafez 1984 since I really love Red Tobacco and were thinking on getting a bottle, also I am very interested in Naxos and Mandarino di Amalfi clones.

Ashton you should try Agar Intense which is oud wood intense....its phenomenal and 95% close to tom fords....also id re visit these fragrances a month or 2 later.....they actually get better with age interestingly enough.....good review and thanks for sharing!
Nice review, some of your comments might be susceptible to change depending on how well the bottle is aged in terms of notes not well melded together For me would like interplay extrait
Definitely HAFEZ 1984! I love this fragrance, but I do not think it is meant to resemble Red Tobacco (some similarities maybe?). I thought it was listed as an original fragrance?...In any regards, its a fantastic, intoxicating, long lasting fragrance. One of the best from Alexandria fragrance!
Outstanding review as always! BR 540 is one of my grails that I love and would love to eventually purchase, and Tuscan Leather is a top 5 fragrance of mine. Interplay Extrait or California Winter 2018 please!
Hey Ash! Love the video, as with all of them! Quick question for you - I recently purchased my first couple Alexandrias, one of them is Fade to Black (Kilian Back to Black). Have you experienced that one before? I haven't smelled the Kilian rendition, so wasn't sure what to expect, but the FtB turns to almost straight powder to me after 15 minutes, and stays that way for 10-12 hours. I trust your nose and experience far more than mine...would love any commentary you could offer if you've tried either! Thanks!
Before you mentioned Hafez 1984 being similar to Red Tobacco, all I heard was that it was similar to PDM Carlisle. Personally I didn't agree with that at all. What a great review. If I were to have one to try it would definitely be the Interplay Extrait out of those.

my current favorite house being reviewed by my favorite reviewer, nice! i own several alexandrias and have 3 on the way right now. my top is apple crumb. once it macerates its beast mode, unique and an incredible scent. i really would like to try agar.
Got a sample pack of Alexandria. Zion was good, Hawaii volcano was really good, the rest were kinda meh for me tbh. Still interested in trying some more out.

We truss your honesty , can you do a vs between Alexandria & Dua ? . For me Alexandria have so much less quality compared to Dua . Have around 20 of Dua & 6 of Alexandria . Thanks in advance

Nice review by one of best reviewers on youtube - I'd call none better. I'd take a bottle of Hafez 1984 in heartbeat. Sampled the Mancera after Gents Scents earlier comments - indeed very similar, but I'd take Hafez even at higher price. If the Memo smells better than African Magic than damn. Great Gents Scents recommendation on the Memo. Heart my African Magic - and I don't normally like leather frags.

I got the African Magic. I'm chocking on cumin for the first half hour. I can't smell anything else. Waiting for it to chill. They shoulda called it African Armpits.
Would love the try that hafez heard some good things and your comment about them maturing is interesting I didn't know that. And you are right you would think the houses wouldn't let a scent out before it was ready. They aren't a fine bottle of scotch you buy them to wear them straight away

Excellent video Ashton, I personally own Hafez 1984 and it's a pretty good fragrance, compliment monster for me, I don't know nothing about any other fragrances from this house, but I vouch for Hafez, its pretty good.

I've been thinking about trying their oils, they look good on paper and would be a cheap entry into this style of fragrance.
