We look at how Alexis Morris has hit out on twitter telling older vets to hand it up. Is this just a spoiled kid or could things be done to improve the situation for rookies.
@@thesportsfanatic2106 if they were letting players go because of what they did in preseason why didn't she get cut ? Because she sucked in the preseason they cut other veterans shes not all that anymore she barely can stay in the game because she barely gets up and down the court shes on that team because they think they can put butts in the seats because of the name. But nowadays it's about the new breed the wnba is mismanaged . But they will roll out the red carpet for the great white hopes Clark and Paige next year even tho there is a ton of talent out there that are just as good
From high school to college then to the WNBA is being squeezed through a funnel. If she keeps working she may find a spot next year as several others have.
Funny Sydney Colson commented, because she's one of them stealing a roster spot from rookies. She's not even any good and NO ONE is going to see her. People want to see Alexus Morris, Destanni Henderson, Te'a Cooper, Kiki Herbert Harrigan.
Yeh I was amazed by her fans after she released an apology statement. They couldn’t fathom a world where she needed to apologize for attacking vets who walked the same path she’s on. I think she also deserved the right to express her feelings causing her to say what she said, as she apologized, I know she was hurt. But her fans omg 😢
I agree with your TB12 analogy. However, I still think that the WNBA should expand their rosters from 12 to 14 or 15 players per team. I don't see the WNBA expanding the number franchises in the league in the near future though.
Adding more roster spots from 12, to 14 or 15 means the franchise has to carry more salary debt. The better solution would be a Rule change to the wnba yo add a practice team to wnba teams the same way that the nfl does, where even though if she isn't signed by anyone right away, at least she would have better hopes moving forward.
If you cry about how the WNBA doesn't get the attention it needs. Get young fresh talent mix it up. She definitely is a baller, and has skills... like she said go overseas and ball
She's got a big ego for sure but she's 5'6 and got drafted to a team that went to the finals. Her chances of making that squad was slim to begin with. Go oversees, get better, and give it another go next year. She's not the first and she wont be the last to get cut.
I’m still trying to figure out why all the current women’s basketball fans are crying for outrage after all the cuts that happened. I thought that people supported women’s basketball for years, but clearly it wasn’t the case otherwise they’d be familiar with how the WNBA operates. First rounders getting cuts has happened since the birth of the league. Alexis is just like most college players and so called fans, she’s never watched the WNBA product. The positive side of this whole story tho, is that now people will honestly start watching the WNBA and the outcry might accelerate the process of expansion.
Yep!!! It’s pointless… just allow tryouts for those who think they can make a roster. Most are going overseas anyway 🤷🏾♂️ they dnt need a draft until they have at least 24 teams
Too many kids these days have super FUNKY attitudes when things don't go their way. If you don't believe me just ask any school teacher or coach. There's a huge lack of humility among these kids coming up which doesn't bode well for the future.
The draft is TOTALLY UNFAIR to the rookies!!! How can they have their chance to shine at the pro level when vets are taking up spots so that the roster is full? Some of the vets are good don't get me wrong but the rookies need their chance too...let's not forget that the vets were once rookies themselves and look what getting a chance to shine did for them. Plus, there are players on every team just warming the bench and cheering from the sidelines...they don't even play so why not thin those out so we can get some new blood?
So all of the rookies need to be on a WNBA roster? That doesn't even happen on the NBA level. Alexis was a late 2nd round pick. In the NBA, late 2nd round picks almost never make the NBA team. They'll play in the G-League, with hopes of playing in the NBA someday. But some never make it. In a league with only 12 teams, it's about right that only 18 of the 36 women drafted, made a team. Alexis simply isn't good enough. And because she is small, she has to be REALLY GOOD to make a team.
@@finisher3x, they all deserve a chance...small or not. The draft is a joke!! If you get drafted you should make the team...PERIOD, training camp should come first then draft...its the same as getting drafted for war...theirs no training there...its ready or not you're off to war...you may not make it back but the draft board don't care about that!!! P.S.- the NBA is at a +10 million dollar and the WNBA is at a -8 million dollar in ticket sales...you wanna know why, it's because people are tired of seeing the same old crap in the women's game all the time. Fans wanna see something (or rather someONE new.
@@HannahDisponett - There is no professional sport that functions this way. Training came in every sport comes after the draft. As a rookie, you're either good enough to make a roster or you're not.
@@finisher3xat least at the NBA level, they have the G League. The WNBA doesn’t have that. On top of that the WNBA is not a profitable league losing 10M a year. Why have a draft losing that kind of money. Also how much time do they have to prep? She just came from the champion game and weeks later trying out.
Yep but Dorka got drafted by Lynx who are rebuilding. Who knows, if Morris drafted by Lynx Vs sun she might be starting as well as Lynx point guard are bad. That was one of the points. Just have 1st rd draft and then let players choose team with best opportunity.
She's definitely entitled. She simply wasn't good enough to make the team, and she started whining about it. LOL @ telling the players over 30 yrs old to hang it up. The good teams in the league have women at or over 30. Experience matters in sports. Even in the NBA, the older teams normally are playoff level teams. Alexis needs to get her jumper right, then come back next season for tryouts.
I would have to see what she does after a decade in the league..When the rookie are looking to move her out the way will she just step a side? There is an issue with the transition but its not the 10 year players vs the rookies
Overall think draft she be limited to 1st round and those pick have contract guaranteed 1 year. Gives rookie as chance and forces league to bring in young talent.
@@back2sports when the mystics check out when Shakira Austin and Della don are on the floor at the same time see how many touches Austin gets?. it goes all the way back to last year when Austin being a top pick got all of the garbage points Austin can Play three spots this is what the wnba does
Her statements were from a place of hurt and more than likely some embarrassment. She’s gonna be back in the league in a few years if she goes overseas and keeps sharpening her game.
Yep I agree with that. Watching a pre draft video the other night and all these players excited & 2 months later they r gone. Pro sport is pretty tough and cold.
I understand your points but I totally disagree. First the Brady suitatiion. Im a old schooler and there is no way thats fair that Brady had to sit behind some one whom he was better then. Im not concerned about building character and all that crap because thats excuse to justify playing someone that doesnt earn it the same way. Yet its thrown at Alex Morris like she is just entitled, In the 80s and 90s if you are some trash you get benched. As far as Alexis Morris i wish she did not post this because she opened the door to people who may not like her based on her winning in LSU and it will come off like she has sour grapes. But she spoke her words out of context and people that dont like her will use that against her . She is totally correct I have seen 3 games last week and some of those player played like some trash and you mean to tell me none of those rookies could do any better?? Indiana Fever point guard is not that good in my oppion but yet she is still starting while Grace the Hometown Indiana star is sitting on the bench. I watched both of them and Grace is better then her. Destiny Henderson is better then that guard. Underneath this model it comes off like hypocrisy because if you are not performing while are you still playing?? Isn't that what they would tell a rookie?? So the product can not sell the brand because the product is operating out of hypocrisy. Its about producing on the basketball court and if your not doing your job you supposed to be benched, being quiet and building resolve is a bunch of bolagney because a player should transfer for that. If you dont produce you dont play.
Hi thanks for your comment. A lot to unpack. My point with Brady was that having a tough situation build resilience which helps navigate pro career as everyone gets screwed. Her post was out of frustration which is understandable. I think she is talented but WNBA does not like teaching teams on the fly. She said herself at opening of camp she felt out of her depth in terms of offence sets and style of play. You are correct she is likely more talented than Kristy Wallace (I think that is who u meant). But they are not willing to teach mooris the sets and invest the time in her. As said in video think it would be better if rookie could choose a team to sign with as I bet she would have made the storm or fever. Yes the fever back court was awful versus the Liberty and suspect Berger will get more time soon. In the video I was try to outline both points of view. Did I do that or miss the point and have bad tone? Did I seem more like a hater I Morris? As I am not as find her story and how she went back to LSU interesting. And she clearly grew up in her time in college. You can't ask more than that. Find it sad how all these player are exited for draft and then 2 months later they r cut. Thanks for watching
@back2sports988 Oh no, everything was good. im just passionate, and I'm just getting back to watching WNBA since the 90s .I watched the entire women's college tournament and I the game of basketball, I know and see talent and some of the talent in the WNBA let's just say they need to look there selves in the mirror. The times are changing, and they need need young players to grow this league. The whole social justice advertising just doesn't cut it. The new college players will be able to grow the sport more and an NBA model . It's more like a stars league. They do need a development league because no college team is going to be pro development its not the college basketball coach responsibilitie. There are many players in the NBA who benefited from development from their own league. That's all I'm saying. Alex Morris just needs to focus on her game, and she will be a target feom here on out.
@@anthonyallen3328 - They have young players all over the WNBA. It's just that some of you want all of the young players to make it. Aliyah Boston and Zia Cooke are the rookies you should be getting behind. Rhyne Howard was a MONSTER last season as a rookie. All of these rookies simply won't make it. And you don't dilute the talent in the league, just for a "feel good" moment of some of these rookies making teams. They were going to ride the bench.
@finisher3x nah its no feel good it's not goodfact that the league can not grow without stars they have 1 or 2 more years to get this right, or they will be set back . Katlin Clark and Angel Reece are coming, so I do understand, and I do watch and support the ones that are in, but I'm telling you basketball has always grown because of star rookies . I like women's basketball. their infrastructure is operating like the 90s, and their product alone is not good enough. You have to put butts in the seats .
@@anthonyallen3328 How UConn players don't go through this problem. She basically sucks and needs to learn how to compete. She should off spent at least two weeks and watch every team in the league which is about twelve. While observing each analyze how you implement your game within that system. If you can't beat out an aging vet, then you suck.
😆😆😆😆😆 The WNBA has an image problem. They have to do 2 major things to get back on track: 1.) Lower the goal to 8' feet so they'll be more dunks than blown layups 2.) Draft an iconic "feminine" player that can both play well & become the face of league like MAGIC & MJ did in the NBA. Until then it's going to continue to be like a sinking blow up raft with a slow leak.
1) will never happen. They may eventually lower the rim 6 - 8 inches, but that's it. But there's really no reason for them to do it. 2) That will happen if and when Caitlin Clark and Angel Reese declare for the league next season. But Candace Parker was that player for years. Ya'll just turned on her when she came out as gay.
Be real getting drafted isn't a guarantee of a spot and your an adult is your job to get ready not the schools their responsibility is to the school if you were not ready you should have stayed in school and gotten better
