Had mine for 10 years in Tornado blue. Only done 57K so it’s had a quiet life. Essential to have it serviced regularly, once a year, which in my case is by a trusted, local, family owned garage. Beyond wear and tear items it’s had its radiator and air con core replaced because of rust and as mentioned here, the suspension springs are a weakness and have been replaced…..and in the case of the front, twice. But they are not expensive. Despite the low mileage, I watch the timing belt life spans carefully, so the Mito is about to go in for its fourth. It’s never failed me on the road and starts first time. It’s really been a pleasure to own and I intend to keep it.
Got one, my first car, it's a 1.4 155bhp Veloce, but I got it of my sister with a remapped ECU at 201bhp. It does 0-60 in 6.9 seconds. Top speed 141mph. Absolutely love it
Loved my Mito, always thought it deserved better reviews than it got. I had a 2012 1.6D - good mix of power for the size of the car and economy. Gripped well and could shift when you wanted it to. It did have a few issues with coolant loss (EGR casing cracking which I think was a common issue) and this happened a couple of times which may have contributed to a subsequent radiator leak. Wheel bearings seemed a weak point too, replaced them more often than tyres! I had the C635 gearbox rather than M32 and in winter it could be very stiff when selecting 1st/2nd but changing the oil grade helped. One thing that disappointed me was bubbling paint on the bootlid below the Alfa badge/boot release - didn’t think that was acceptable on a 4 year old car. Final nail in the coffin for mine was when the starter motor died in busy traffic one day. Ended up trading it for a 2008 Brera S which is a different breed and a real step up, and so far no trouble compared to the Mito, but do still have a little soft spot for it.
ewanwallace1 totally agree, what most reviews neglect to mention is how much more special they make you feel than in a boring Festa or Polo. You’ll never park up a fiesta and look back (unless it’s an ST) but you totally would a Mito. They just feel more special.
Thanks for the video. I just purchased a Quadrifoglio without knowing anything about it really just that it was a good deal with only 27,000 miles on a 2013 single owner. The 2 front coil springs were just replaced so sounds like a have done quite well.
Since i was a young boy i love Alfa Romeo Cars. The first Alfa i've ever noticed was a Giulia Junior and i was 10 years old. Now I'm 58 and soon I'll buy my very first Alfa. Maybe a MiTo, maybe a Giulietta, maybe a Giulia Veloce.
I knew it was a good idea to start looking for a MiTo. I think they share the Plattform with the Punto so it should be a pretty reliable car. Looking for a facelift version cuz I prefer the newer interior. I'd change all the emblems to the matt-silver looks better :D I'd get the super tiny 1.4 8v engine 78-79 hp most trustworthy in my oppinion. Also I'd immediately change the transmission fluid just like engine oil, and filters. Greetings from Germany
I have this exact car 2017. He needs the wing mirror and head and tail light surrounds doing, the lacquer is chipping. My read light has water in too. Not that expensive to find replacement parts. I need to change the passenger side handle because someone opened their door on it. Cant find the colour so may replace them both with carbon fibre ones. Absolutely love my Alfa
I have a Multiair Mito Turbo from 2011 and I just love it..runs great and had it for a year now..the multiair unit was broken in mine.."nothing I knew when I bought it"..but the cardealer payed for that to be fixed..very expensive unfortunately..so make sure that one is ok if you buy one...and be sure too have right oil and check for level once a week...if you have the wrong oil or to low on oil the multiair unit can fail..so be careful of that...no other problems so far..just great to drive!👍
If you take a look at all the MiTos for sale currently on autotrader and put the reg number into dvla's MOT history check website, you will see that the vast majority of MiTos which are older than 4 years suffer from corrosion, oil leaks, gearbox oil leaks, broken coil springs, EML (engine management light) on, and other suspension related problems. The Multi Air unit is also prone to fail. Costs about £900 to replace i think(supply and fit). Unfortunately unless you specifically ask for the "oil strainer" to be changed when oil is changed along with filter it will not be. It is recommended changing oil every 6 months with the MA units.
One of the chrome thins on my grill on my front bumper is gone, that little round thing in the front is also gone, on my wing mirror I have a little bit of damage on the edge of the 2011 model, my rear bumper has a little bend in it and doens't fully connect to the car, it comes 1cm or something out, still I am really happy with my car only €2300 paid in Belgium (in BE that's cheap) My engine is in perfect shape btw
Nice car the twin air, handles really well. DAB radio Ariel prone to giving up the ghost, had 2 replaced, rear wheel bearings, but other than those pretty trouble free. 👍👍👍
Nice cars. We had one for four years. Totally reliable . But, if I was buying again I would get a more powerful engine as the basic ones are a tad underpowered
Very true. I got the basic 1.4 105hp and it's so unwilling even in D mode. My next car will not be below 170 (Giulietta hopefully) but I still like the Mito, gorgeous looking car.
Great review and watched this about four times before I bought my mito! Same as the one in the video. Can u ask how easy is it to hard wire in my next base dash cam ?
Use a fuse tap so and draw from a fuse that has power when the ignition is turned on what I done personally perfectly safe separate fuse for the camera and original fuse still in place. Plus you can hide the wire the whole way down the head liner and into the glove box.
Hi one MASSIVE THING you missed witch happens to most of the mitos is the rear top brake light when pressed its very very dim when water gets in thats on most common problem have seen and had lot of mitos and family had all same problem thats one massive problem with mitos shame they dont nake them any more.
Cruise control is actual a great cheap and easy retrofit to a UK car! For about £55 with all the trim I bought the stalk squib and replaced my old one on my '09 Veloce, PROXI Alignment in MES and working beautifully!
11:26 Just want to point out, having done it multiple times, when changing the timing belt on a MiTo 1.4 Turbo Petrol 155, the turbocharger is not in the way, it's a relatively simple job that you can tackle at home, bearing in mind that you need to have the tool to loosen the belt tensioner pulley.
Another common fault on the exterior is the hatch opening button / heated rear screen / wiper failure. All of these generally have the same solution, replace the cables that go through the flexi section between the body and the hatch. I'd add on the interior, that silly cubby hole drawer to the right of the steering wheel is the flimsiest bit of the MiTo, they have a tendency to not latch and then fall open when driving.
Are the front bumper brackets brand specific? Concerned about spare availability here in Mexico and i definitely need to replace them as the bumper gets sort of separated at the headlights level. Own a 2015 QV one and the only issue i've got is a cracked radiator and the plastic cover under the engine compartment being ripped off on a track day due speed (this is what broke the brackets).
I've had my 1.6 jtdm2 Distinctive from new, it's eight years old now and has been great to drive. Your right about the paint, my Rosso paint chips very easily, but the only other issues I've had are two n/s/r wheel bearing replacement's and n/s front spring X2 replacement. It's serviced as required by the book and surprises many an Audi and BMW up to 80. It's been very reliable and cruises very well, it has cruise control (2012). Underneath is very good too although the exhaust will need replacing soonish as the outer shroud on the back box has split. The rear boot spoiler has clear coat peel and am struggling to get the spoiler off currently, any ideas on that? But on the whole it's a great car and I've been getting as much as 71 AVG mpg before the cam belt change, (driving miss daisy) if you're thinking about owning a MiTo (Milano/Torino) go and get yourself one, just buy wisely 👍🏻😃
Neil, I love my 1.3 jtdm 95bhp. but gear changes are stiff. I know about the greasing and lube for the switchgear under the battery box. Is there any oil I could also consider changing🤷♂️ done 100 K+and great video BTW. Helped me decide on a Mito.
Hi, I’m looking to buy a mito 1.6jtdm 2011 witk 137k km, I heard a lot of different opinions about this engine and I’m a bit worried, is it reliable? I’ve seen the car at a dealer, I like it, the dealer offers me a 3 month warranty and I’m really tempted to buy it.
So, apart from Multiair unit failure, steering motor failure, whiny gearboxes, stretchy cam chains, 60K cam belt changes and Italian electronics they're fine?
Here was me thinking of Buying a MITO instead of a Golf but after watching this Video I will definitely give the Mito a miss Pity very good looking cars
Had 2012 qv , when I started it , it would sometimes remain in limp mode and other times it would be fine. Started happening after about 3/4 years of ownership; Alfa specialist had no idea why it was doing it; didn’t throw any codes. I loved the car but got very frustrating as I had to sit there turning the car on and off until it started not being in limo mode. Traded it in in the end and got a guilia
Good info. thanks. Have heard Multiair can be very costly to repair, but only Alfa dealers know how to look after em, i.e. some filter hidden away needs replacing etc ? I have 1'4 QV
Just bought a Mito qv, brilliant car and good looking! Does anyone know what size dashboard bulb it uses and how many, can´t see my water temp at night..
I looking to buy one of these for my first car. 2009 1.4 veloce 16v. Anything I should look out for or just any general knowledge of reliability would be appreciated.
Hi, thanks for this helpful review. I have an eye on one Mito and would appreciate some insight into the costs of repairs (as per last MOT advisories): Nearside Front Oil leak, but not excessive (8.4.1 (a) (i)) Nearside Front Tyre worn close to legal limit/worn on edge (5.2.3 (e)) Nearside Rear Wheel bearing slightly noisy (5.1.3 (b) (i)) Thank you!
Dont get one with xenon headlights. They are problematic and expensive to replace. 800 euro if you find a cheap pair. The dark ones are especially hard to find. Still i love it! 10 years old and the inspection costs more than the repairs to pass it. I do repair myself i have to add.
I loved the car but i had too much problems with mine. I had a 1.6 jtdm 120 hp. Turbo changed, dpf change, injector change, etc it had only 130000 km on it at that moment..
Have a question about Alfa 145 and diagnostics. Can you explain in a video diagnostics on 3 pin alfa/fiat and what free programs to use and some of obd scanners that work with old diagnostics? Bought some but can't read anything. Maybe faulty odb scanner but wanna check it out with you
I so much think of buying a MiTo so I’m seeing the ads here and there. What I noticed is the gap between the front bumper and hood is really random. Does that mean a 100% front end crash or bump ? Or are they becoming saggy from even removing and putting the bumper back in ?
Thanks again , had my multiair serviced thanks to you. Do u know anyone who wants an imaculate Mito QV only 24 k driven by me from new ? I would want at least £8600 am going to ad in Autotrader soon, but, just thought Id ask. Rob
I have question that even the factory couldn't give me an answer too,so pressure is on lol .Like the QV Line in the video , the grill, mirror caps ,door handles and wheels are all the same colour do you know the paint code for them ??Cheers
I have just bought a mito 16 plate twin air jumior model, I found this guide very useful when looking. I do have one annoyance with the car though, the beep when it locks and unlocks, is there anyway to turn this off?, I can't find it anywhere in the manual and due to the nature of my job i leave early in the morning and i feel the neighbours may start to rue my my new car solely for this beep.
Hello Sir i Engoy watching yors posts about thouse lovely cars. Im just wondering if you my now cases with warning brake light, i got car from specialist and they changed front discs and pads with Brembo parts, in meantime rears looked worn but not low any way i changed rears today with Brembo pads and discs, as about month ago got warning brake light, after job done and new wires connected light apears to still be on dashboard, i did not drived yet after fitting breaks, so my be light will go. I check brake cylinder no fluid leaks as well level is good with new fluid so not siure what can be, any ideas??? Haw you came a cross problem like this, i did not checked for my be wires beinng broken somewhere. I have 2010 alfa mito clover leaf mulitiair.
my mito Quadrifoglio came up with a suspension fault light on the dash which pulled it out of dynamic mode but about 5miles later it went away then came back on briefly before going away and hasn't came back. it was pretty wet out and the intermittency makes me think its a loose connection of some kind. Do you have any experience with this issue many thanks
@@ItaliaAutos Thank you very much, so pretty normal shocks. Anything special I should be aware of ? I am thinking about buying one with 120k KM (round 85k miles i think)
Bro, please tell me about TCT gearbox- is it reliable?? And can you tell me about Grande Punto avtomatic gearbox PLEASE 🫶? I lost my leg from cancer, and I can drive only automatic car. Can you help me with this information bro please 🙏
If you want a reliable automatic you'd be better off with a Japanese one. Toyota Yaris Hybrid comes to mind. Those CVT's are pretty reliable. Fiat is pretty average reliability wise, but the gearboxes were one of the weak points of the car.
I wanna buy my first car. How are the 1.3 JTD Models? I’ve seen a Basic model of that car, what exactly should I be aware of when buying that? For example, the model I’ve seen was 2011, 120000km, 95hp, had only one owner.
@@ItaliaAutos hi, I’m an owner of this MiTo for 3 months right now! Very nice car. Already done about 6000 Km traveling. Doing an oil change this week. The steering is amazing, we found with my wife both front seats super comfortable for long journeys! Diesel is a bit loud, especially when going 155km/h. So I’m pretty happy with this car.
How often Multiair goes bad on how many miles? Are they as bad as BMW PSA Prince engines with Valvetronic and VANOS? Thank you. I'm looking to buy 1.4 105hp version from 2010.
Hello Neil .. Is it correct what I have been told that a way you can tell a TB155 from all the other Mito’s available is that the TB155 has a twin tail pipe exhaust where others like the one you featured has only a one tail pipe ??
So the only way if you want it to be specific Engine Mito such as a TB155 is look on the V5 then or are there any clues on the car itself that proves it’s a TB155 over say a TB120 ??
You can also see the larger front brake calipers on the 155. The tailpipe is usually what I judge by though (clover leafs also have the twin pipe though)
Deividas Navickas The key thing now is I have a clearer idea of what to look for when I am looking to purchase a TB155 Mito . Compared to Alfa’s of the late 90’s up to the 159 the Some Mito’s are not the easiest cars to identify especially the TB155’s .
I've a 2011 1.3 jtdm with 111k miles on it. Was running fine until yesterday when I noticed greyish smoke from the exhaust and my check engine light lit up. Any advice on what the problem could be?
Well, I fancied one of these for the run around town but I’ve been out right off as have never heard so many faults being even mentioned on anything else. Beautiful little car but hey, I know this is Alfa. Bless.
I had my Mito for 3 years and 40000 km, it s not been reliable at all, i have cracked the reservoir for coolant, a very common issue, i had to replace THE ENTIRE gearbox, that is the real throwback in all the mito's, i have spent more than 1400 euro just to do that, i had also to chance the front brake disk, since they keep cracking, also the ecu for the blue and me system failed. I love the mito, is a nice little car and is very enjoyable but as i sad not very reliable, like how all alfas are.
