I for one would be fascinated and very keen to see a suspension set up video. That sort of thing interests me greatly and I am sure I would learn a great deal from such a video done by such obviously knowledgeable people. Bobby clearly has a massive skill set! 👍👍👍

Nat, please be aware that your explanations of technical processes is equal to and as valuable as any college or university professor and consumed intensely by many budding apprentices and engineers. Ross Brawn and Adrian Newey were young apprentices once, so don’t apologise for giving out your knowledge free, as it’s worth its weight in gold. Bless you mate🙏

One question raised by watching those drain pans being fitted. For concealed surfaces such as the insides of the sill structure. Is it worth using the zinc coating process you use for those before they are finally welded in place. Or is it that the logistics of spraying small surfaces not worth firing up the zinc spray set up; And interrupting the fabrication process?

With out an Alfa Romeo engine is this really an Alfa Romeo...?? Gulia's high roll centre in "theory doesn't work" but in practice works wonders with superb feedback to the driver and amazing handling balance, as alfaholics have proven. You do fantastic work and craftsmanship but the mods need to allow the fundamental character of the car to be in tact. Cheers

The combustion chamber in the YB is really not ideal for N/A as the valve angle is too big since it was originally designed as a turbo for lower CR. Increase the CR on a YB and you end up with a big intruder on the piston which is very poor for combustion efficiency.
@retropowercars
@retropowercars Месяц назад
Tell that to John Wilcox 😆👍
@Matnrach2-mf9qr
@Matnrach2-mf9qr Месяц назад
@@retropowercars I dont think he would believe me.. Don't forget I am talking racing engines not road going where it really doesn't matter for the last few percent. If you look at any top line race engines, they all have much smaller included valve angles. That is for a reason.
@RetropowerNat
@RetropowerNat Месяц назад
It’s not quite as simple as that. Similar valve angles were employed by a number of engines of cosworth design from the period, which were normally aspirated designs. The YB was originally conceived as a normally aspirated engine too. Totally agree that an intruder piston limits flame front propagation by increasing the distance and thus the rpm capability, and with it the ultimate power potential, but this doesn’t limit the torque and the applications where the rpm becomes the limiting factor are few and far between. Certainly the YB does work better at larger capacities where the combustion chamber is small enough to generate good compression without intruder pistons. Similarly with the Vauxhall XE, also of cosworth design, again works very nicely at 2.2-2.3 litre capacity where the relative chamber size compared to the swept volume is better. You do have to remember though, that in their forced induction variations, both the YB and XE had dished pistons, not flat top, again compromising the design.
@Matnrach2-mf9qr
@Matnrach2-mf9qr Месяц назад
@@RetropowerNat Yes but my point is for N/A applications. I think we are saying the same thing. For Rallying or fast road where a wide spread of torque is required, the chamber shape will be adequate as inlet , exhaust and cam timing dominates. For the ultimate N/A application, or nowadays even pressure charged, the wide angle CC is far from optimal. You definitely would not design a head for top line racing like that now.
@philtucker1224
@philtucker1224 Месяц назад
You are basically correct Matn, (I worked on developing these heads for many years at Piper Cams) but of course there are always other important design aspects that are advantageous, that compensate for that.
