My May long weekend trip didn’t have any portaging, but I gratefully got in some paddling, and camping! I even did a little fishing! I also got to test out my brand new H20 Performance Paddle! Funnily, they are not affiliated with H20 Canoe Company. Come camping with me on Kioshkokwi Lake in Algonquin Park, where I fight the blackflies, prepare and eat some tasty food, do some exploring and enjoy the gorgeous weather!

In case anyone thinks they are only checking permits on the AP lakes that allow motor boats, think again... the rangers are also out in canoes, checking permits on all the lakes :)

Yes. It’s a game changer. Did you know that they can sense when you get more irritated and frustrated and attack even harder? Once they figure out biting, they are fairly clever little insects. Lol. Thanks for watching and commenting. Cheers!

Yes but were they cheese filled sausages 😉! I love those Vachon caramels, had them in my lunches as a kid! Thanks for the video, editing etc with the awful bugs. Was in Killarney just before long weekend and black flies worse I’ve ever seen🦟

And I thought I was the only one who brings a screen tent (bug shelter) for camping. haha! Black flies can drive you absolutely insane. I am only half way through the video so perhaps you will have a head net shown but for me, its a life saver.

Lol. Not even close. Lol. I have been using a bug shelter for about 6-7 years. It’s a total game changer, especially when I’m doing portaging trips in the remote wilderness and spending the entire day fighting the bugs. It’s so awesome to have a bug free area to relax in at the end of the day after slogging through the forest. Yes! Of course I have a headnet. Sounds like you’re new-ish to my channel. You should check out some of my Temagami tripping videos. I have a full bug suit, pants, a shirt, and the headnet. I didn’t wear it for most of this weekend as the bugs were just starting and not irritating me much, but that will change next trip. I used to much worse conditions. Thanks so much for watching and taking the time to comment. 😊 Cheers !

People don’t realize a lot of cheeses are aged without refrigeration lol
@CamperChristina

As are many meats. 😊 I used to work with a girl from Mexico and she told me something I’ve never forgotten. People in Canada over refrigerate so many things that it’s just become a habit and isn’t always necessary. I think about that often. 😊 cheers !

That has to be disheartening to miss a trip like that. Hope you are able to do it at a later date. Might I ask what book you are reading. I love the way you emphasize the importance of ALWAYS wearing your life jacket. I often wonder at what point we as fellow paddlers should tell someone to put on their PFD.

Thank you so much for your kind words and your thoughtful comment. The book is called Last Entry Point by Joe Friedrichs and it’s fantastic. On my last trip on Cat Lake, I was reading a book that the same author had written previous to this book called Her island. Both are fantastic reads. I provide more info in another part of the trip. I was so ill while I was editing these videos that I was a bit leery about publishing them. I hope there aren’t too many errors or issues with the videos. As of yesterday I am finally starting to feel better. The antibiotics took a toll on my colitis, unfortunately, and pushed me into a flare, but I think I’ve got everything under control now and I’m hoping to get out on a short trip soon and do something bigger for Canada Day. Here’s the link to the book. Thanks so much for your comment. Cheers ! drurylanebooks.com/book/9781681342863

Thanks for sharing. I camped on Kiosk with a friend the first weekend in May. We tried to find the camp site you stayed at with your friend Shelly, but due to the high water levels we paddled right by it. We stayed on a site south of the access point on a peninsula with a view of two islands. The outfitter told us that site had a really nice beach.

I'm headed to the Kiosk car camping area end of July. It'll be my first time there so this video was great to show me how beautiful the lake is. Also, while I'm watching your video I'm on the MEC site and will buy the CT11 bug shelter. How great it is to be able to hang a hammock inside the bug shelter. Do you use the Eureka poles or other poles? I'm also wondering where in Quebec you were headed before you got sick.
@CamperChristina
@CamperChristina 29 дней назад
That’s cool! I hope you have a great time. I do not have the poles for the bus shelter, and I’ve never use them. I have gotten fairly creative putting it up on a beach a few years ago but for the most part, I usually find good trees. You only really need 2. The low sides can be staked to the ground if need be. You’ll see a setup change in part 2, I think? For the Quebec trip, you’ll have to wait and see. Lol. Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment. Cheers.

Thank you. I’m not there yet sadly. The antibiotics messed with my colitis. Now I’m fighting a whole different illness. Thankfully I know how to get out of it. Today is actually the first day I feel a bit better. Yesterday, I felt like I was dying. Thank goodness for probiotics. 😊

Hi Christina! Another Great Video! Have you used the original bug shirt that has a hood etc? Thanks! Dan
@CamperChristina
@CamperChristina 28 дней назад
Thank you. No. I think it would be far too hot. I have been using a mesh bug shirt that is completely mesh and I purchase it at Canadian tire for about $20. It works amazingly well and keeps me cool. I’ve been using that kind for about 8 years and I love it. I find hoods on bug shirts super hot and stuffy. I use a baseball hat and separate mesh headnet that I can adjust and easily add or remove while tripping. You can find info on all of the gear that I use on my trips on my website at CamperChristina.com. Cheers!
