So disappointing to see the state of that fire pit AND the active flames. Looks like they didn't even TRY to put it out :(. After a bad experience we had 2 years ago with a recurring root fire at a Fassett Lake campsite in AP, we have become even more obsessed with dousing our fire repeatedly when we are not around, going to bed or departing from the site. These irresponsible people don't get to see what harm their laziness can cause, because they are long gone before the forest fire starts. And don't get me started on the garbage on that portage. That portage is becoming as bad as the Canoe Lake Portage into the Joe Lakes on the 60 corridor. Very sad. Thank you for sharing and taking the time to video tape all of these. In spite of the overuse and abuse, I'm still loving AP!! I had a good LOL over your 'bloopers'. Cheers.
I have also run across fires still burning, as many of the responsible campers I know. The other thing that gets me, and is dangerous, are people who put large logs into the fire pit . Large logs can smolder for days adding to the danger of setting the forest on fire. As to the garbage....this is a growing problem. Thanks for the tips and info.
Loved the videos, beautiful cedar strip canoe and i love that carbon paddle, what size was the camp tarp and manufacture, ld love to see a close up of you using the sticks to secure the tarp please Nice videos as always, thats a lovely canoe, my neighbor George Cook used to manufacture some of the most magnificent canoes you've ever saw ,George was a boat designer by trade, several of his designs actually went into mass production, i believe 4 or 5 sail boats are being mass produced, thank you 👍👍👍
We ran across a smoldering fire a few years back on Burnt Island Lk. Thank goodness we were just out exploring other sites and found it and put it out.
Nearly 50% of the campsites we visited in Algonquin Park this year still had coals burning under the ashes from the previous group. Ontario Parks really needs to work on better educating campers next year - prior to issuing permits.
Leaving a fire burning Is absolutely stupid and dangerous. So is leaving garbage in the bush. It takes all kinds and the world is full of them unfortunately. 👍🇨🇦
Stupid, disappointing....100% pisses me off to no end. Now had you decided not to stay on that site and it did seem like there was a good enough breeze that day I hate to think what could have happened. I've been paddling by a couple of different sites on lakes I wasn't staying and noticed smoke rising from firepits, pulled off the lake and put them out. One was as a previous commenter said was a large log just smoldering away. I only wish there was a way to track this ignorance down. I'm happy that you were there at the right time Jason to deal with it. Happy and safe paddling, Chris
I can't believe after all the wildfires that someone would leave a fire going like that, or leave all that trash. That's just... I don't have words for it. People these days know better.
It takes a lot of water to properly douse a fire. I’m not making excuses for anyone but many probably don’t realize it. Add 5 more buckets full after you think it’s out.
If it was for me... i would put survelliance cameras everywhere, or any other kind of extreme control system to check for issues like litter and leaving lit fires, then charge a really huge fee to whoever is responsible for it.
That fire going is just crazy, that has to be the most idiotic thing you could do! Takes two minutes to soak it down. Morons! Other than that, video is great as always Jason.
Seems like Algonquian Park up there is turning into what happened down here in Massachusetts state park campgrounds where there is hardly any funding for campground staffing to monitor and educate crowds like other state parks in New England. I watch a lot of YT vids on canoe camping in canada and AP seems to have the highest amount of irresponsibility as far as I can tell which is simply a result of budget cuts which makes no sense to me because one would think that park brings a lot of money to local businesses and seeing garbage and fires burning would really bum me out.
When I saw that fire left burning I was burning in side. Enough is enough. There are just too many irresponsible people that should not be let out on their own. I can only imagine that their parents were just as irresponsible. I was in China recently and I loved the security cameras everywhere with facial recognition. I also observed less police presence than in Canadian cities. It was very safe and people behaved and enjoyed themselves. Cameras with facial recognition do a great job with ensuring people behave themselves. We need to ditch the fear mongering and roll this out in Canada. The only ones who should fear this technology are the law breakers and wreckless "children". It's a lot less costly than the 20% of our municipal tax bill that goes to police services at present.
The pile of garbage and the burning fire are just pure aggravating stupidity!!! 😡 What do you carry in the pockets of your PFD? They always look like they’re crammed full of stuff. If you’ve already covered that in a previous video, would you share a link please?
I think I mention it in this video ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-j9fujKoDYUY.html (just saw myself in that video - holy smokes I lost weight since then). It changes a little but generally I have: compass, map, bug spray, hockey tape, swiss army knife, bear banger, headlamp, and storm proof matches in a watertight container. Basically everything I think I'd need to deal with certain challenges along the way.
Sorry Matt, you Canadians do not have them all! Some humans are so self absorbed and lazy they don’t care what their ignorance does! Lately they have been emboldened…. Take care, LNT or ate least leave it better than you found it!
So what if I do not want to use those crappy grills there never cleaned you got all sort of crud on them including birdshit I will bring a grill if I need to now the grills they have there are pretty well clean I'll use them but if their crappy like some places I've seen no way I'll bring my own damn grill
