They feel like God is with him. Super class Muhammad Ali it's not only a great boxer but a great communicator for peace. I shook his hand one time when I was a kid
Ali was full of bitterness on white people,,i dont know what god he reads about,,But God himself clearly is not that way,,,God forgives us if we ask him and remembers our wrong doing no more,,God doesn't Judge until Judgement day,,and those who receive forgiveness will pass from judgment to life,,,but if course Ali did not read correctly about Jesus as the litgitimate atonement. Or maybe he heard it,and rejected it,,,sad.
who's ass?....I grew up in white suburbia, yet we had plenty of blacks at school (Santa Barbara California)....they were fun, colorful (1970's).....I was born in 1959 and remember MLK....everyone knew that hating blacks for culture or color was wrong wrong wrong....some did, they had cheap unreliable friends to hang out with........hate a race, lose most your space! Side note....Sly was beloved (Ali too), but Sly was better
Television without PR is so much richer a thing to experience. Just love how the presenter lets Ali bust out a little poetry, and people are talking as people, not walking products flogging the next thing.
Ali was so angry he failed to see that everyone on the stage was in his side . I feel like the white guys on the stage were being very progressive thinkers for their time and this could have been a great moment to talk about how to bring cohesiveness to the country but I think Ali was deeply ingrained with the black panthers and was very militant with his beliefs. I understand the anger of course but I feel like the convo could have been a positive and Ali was being argumentative for no reason. I’m well versed in stoner English so I understand what sly was saying too Btw I’m 34 so didn’t live they this, looking at this thru the lens of history
Ali was wrong. The dark skinned Indians came to America. Within a generation of being here their family earned income is more than three whites and more than the Jews
Sly is a man of the people Ali was a man of HIS people. Sly, you've put yourself through the ringer man and have bounced back. You have always taken accountability for what you have done to yourself in the past, I just say God Bless, never met you but you seem like a genuine see what you get guy.........and your music is just ....WOW.
ali condems all white people for slavery, and mistreatment of blacks. everything for the blacks. what about me?, im white, my wife is chinese, we never did anything to anybody, hes a bit of a racist to in reverse. our generation has tried to right all the wrongs, but things take time. make no mistake, i really like mohamed ali, what they did to him by taking away all his championship belts, and suspened him for two years, because he woudnt go to vietnam, was a crime. that was a poitician war, wereby we lost 52,000 people for nothing. not to mention how many vietnamese lost there lifes. as ali grew older, he melowed out, we truly loved him. mohamed ali you were the greatest. all the best Louie Vaccaro, las vegas.
Sly was for his people as well as Ali. Both represented what our people started spiritually. Don't use word to separate by so-called religious background.
The interviews from this time are always more authentic. Now all we get are a bunch of people talking about nothing for 5 mins of social media fame. Sly understood that you have to diplomacy and Ali in his normal fashion said what was on his mind. I love it!!!
ALI looked out for ALI....his real name was Cassius Clay jr, named after an 19th century ABOLITIONIST that freed all his families slaves and fought against slavery...and "ALI" threw that away.......
What Muhammad said, where he said it, and when he said it was simply brilliant and amazing. How many athletes today would be willing to take such a stance like this in front of a camera and microphone? One would think that the Republican Party should endorse his words since they seem to think that black people are more reliant on government support than self reliance The problem with many people who object to this clip is that they are too young or in denial about that time period. African-Americans were in the throes of a Civil Rights movement that was sometimes very violent. Most of the black inner city communities were in disarray and racism was rampant. I remember this interview; I was a kid in Cleveland and with all that was going on at that time, it was refreshing to hear someone speak up for us in a manner that made you lean forward in your seat. Because it was Muhammad Ali who said it just further solidified why he was my only childhood (and adulthood) hero. Him being "the greatest fighter of all time" was almost secondary....
Kyle Pittman Thanks for sharing your thoughts. I may be a little older than you, but growing up African American in Cleveland during the 60's and 70's was no picnic to say the least. There was a great amount of tension between the races. The river (the Cuyahoga) that divided the city was also a dividing line of the races; Jews and Blacks on the East Side, and people of European origin on the West. Many areas (including the West side, Murray Hill and the like) made if very clear that if you were black, you were not welcomed. This stand made by many 1st generation Americans and almost Americans against people that help build the city. Ali was a beacon of light during a very dark time in American history. He was simply speaking out what many African Americans felt....and in some hearts, still feel.
Well it's obvious that you have drank the Repug koolaid and are drunk on their lies, deceit, corruption, and stupidity. You probably feel that what they are doing is for your benefit. Come to think about it, if you have the right complexion you are halfway right. I will not try to convince you otherwise; in time you will find out on your ow n how wrong you are. However, this blog is about the great Muhammad Ali. So let's just leave it to that, shall we?

Akil M An analysis released last week shows that more white people died at the hands of law enforcement than those of any other race in the last two years, even as the Justice Department, social-justice groups and media coverage focus on black victims of police force. your country is still fucked though, gun laws cause all this mess. if you did what australia did back in the 90's you would have less cops shooting people.

As a white kid in segregated suburbia I grew up watching the Mike Douglas Show after school. He was on everyday at about 4 in the afternoon and he often had amazing combinations of guests and intense conversations. Remember there were only about 3 or 4 channels on the TV back then but they still managed to have real conversations like this on a weekday afternoon show. As corny as Mike Douglas seemed he had a wide variety of guests.
Still exists today. And with all the so-called "freedoms of speech" that we have today , we have even less courageous spokespeople for black society. The new black media is making much needed changes to that .
Less than 14 % of the American Population commits more than 50 % of the Felonies in this country. So what about the Over 50 Years (1970-Onward) of Systematic Criminality committed by Blacks in this Country?
This was a talk show on prime time television. There are no discussions about race like this in contemporary society. Each person expressing his view and being heard.
Damn right, today it is bland-as-fuck and censored by corporations who end up mind-controlling people if they allow themselves to be over-exposed. That's the utter opposite of a free debate.
Alexxandro Bloch I remember when I was young and saw stuff like this I only thought we'd get more open and tolerant towards other's opinion. never thought we'd go backwards with all this Fox News crap.
To blame for feeding the Murdoch beast, is every person buying Fox and Sky TV (UK monopoly on satellite TV and Premier League Football games = lots of power and it IS abused). The problem is that we're too scared to appear nasty and offensive by calling people - normal people - out on it. Yet it IS their fault for feeding the beast.

This trips me out every time I see this. Sly Stone, was just as "stoned" as the day is long. No pun intended. Muhammed Ali was just so HEROIC. I know he's resting in God's bosom. He served His person well.
"I only care for the freedom and the unity of my people, everybody else has got it" Most Powerful Statement Of the Entire Interview Win for Muhammad Ali
Sadly--Sly was on the downward spiral at the time of this interview--(1974, I believe.) He's higher than a kite--and Ali knows it and is pissed--but he maintains composure.
I grew up watching the Mike Douglas Show. I believe it was on Monday - Friday from 3:30pm to 5pm. I would get home from school to watch it. I learned so much! I loved Douglas' low-key, affable and inquisitive interviewing technique. His guests were always educational, inspiring and fun!
Ali was point on, he said we in a world full of hypocrites. I love love love the way Ali spoke and wasn't afraid to speak his mind 👏, brother and Sly you were ok too...
At the risk of saying something obvious: wisdom is not something you learn at school or university, its something you learn from life and Muhammed Ali is living proof of that. Thanks for uploading.
The way Ali soften his tone with sly was amazing because he didn’t want to argue with a black man knowing fully that he could knock him out in a heartbeat
Sly Stone came for Ali, but ypu cant take it away from Ali...Everyone came to this country starting businesses in my neighborhood and never gave a damn thing back...yes Ali said this 30 years ago!!
Ali is my hero, he doesn't bite his tongue and speaks with confidence. Nothing but the truth, unlike some of the uncle toms they have speaking on tv today.
Isnt that incredible. That shows you the treasonous behavior of our black misleadership that allows for the perpetuation of the abysmal state of black america.
Awesome show. It captures the times perfectly and there is great verbal sparring going on throughout, full of sparks but respectful and somehow gentlemanly.
OH LOrd Sly you are brave and good And I love Ali. Good for all men there who stood for a point...did not demur...I respect this. Ali...RIP I met you twice.
The most enlightening thing said was “why do politicians have such low credibility today” hearing that in 2023 makes it clear the only option for answering is hysterical maniacal laughter
akilmosq24 things are worse than ever no unity no morals killing each other babies having babies disrespecting each other and our pride gonr replaced with blonde hair skin bleaching and fatherless families
Ali was really a leader in the struggle for human rights and at the forefront of it all just like any other respectable black leader in the whole world. He was hated by the majority of US citizens and endured hardship for being outspoken about his faith and the struggle. Fortunately he's now held in high esteem all over the world
Sly wasn't afraid of Ali. To see two strong brothers negotiate and debate with each other is beautiful like an opera. Ali said "I won't fuss with the brother on TV, that's the "nigga and fool show my brotha"...Sly says ain't no thang but a chicken wang, and "get yo hand out ma face!" with his stoned ass, looking Ali in the eye. Sly wanted to change the color of the flag..."over your head!" Very interesting interview and panel. I used to watch Mike Douglas with my beloved Grandmother.
Remember , those artists , especially the ones from San Francisco, were heavily embedded in the drug culture. Watch Sly's interview with Richard Pryor on this same show. Sly felt much more comfortable in the company of a fellow druggie who shucked and cooned along with him.
Why would Joe Frazier have to speak like that? He was a hard working guy who came from nothing and became heavyweight champion. Don't really understand your point.
