Jigra is a thriller deserving of Alia Bhatt’s capabilities.

Konkona Sen Sharma Interview - • “Don’t feel very femal...
Jigra Movie Review by Sucharita Tyagi - Despite the stoicism, there ARE many faces of Satya. She is kind and forgiving, illustrated in an early sequence, she intercepts some drugs at a party, hides them in her palm, quietly telling her junior staff to flush them away. She allows herself to feel the full extent of her emotions, only when whatever job is at end, is done to her satisfaction. Before arriving in Hanshi Dao, she knows she won't allow herself a moment to respite, so on the flight she stuffs her face with whatever food and drink she can lay her hands on. Desperate to will into reality that like a machine, this food will keep her body fuelled for however long it takes for her to bring her brother home.
The joy of watching a Vasan Bala directorial for me stems from my anticipation to see how the filmmaker attempts to push himself with each outing. The climactic jail-break sequence, moments of which you see in the trailer is an immense achievement, mounted on a scale the filmmaker has never had access to before. And even within that, he brings Alia Bhatt to a moment where stood atop a burning car she yells on a megaphone “Inquilaab Zindabad”. Go watch, and then come we’ll talk more.

For me... spoiler is anything that will take away my surprise in any which way when watching. Without even watching the movie, knowing that Alia Bhatt will shout "Inqalab Zindabad" in the movie is sure to take away at least a bit of impact from the scene. I love your reviews, you are great but yes toooo many details.

To those complaining about spoilers, why would you read or listen to an in depth review of a film before you've seen it? If all you want to know is whether it's any good, there are simpler shorter reviews out there. Reviews like these are best for after you've seen the film so you can compare your own thoughts with those of professional critics, as well as see if there might have been any details you missed.

Erm like people watch a review before going to see a movie if its worth a watch or not. Those are spoilers I didn't need to know now ruins the curiosity I had about their background knowing the father jumped. The trailer didn't give the beats away. I'm disappointed a bit with this review. Usually a fan had to stop watching the review for fear more would be revealed.

@sucharita Jail break movies are always predictable. What is important here is HOW. Point of 'How' is in Jigra is too easy, convenient, Godly, It makes audience bore. Director should play one step ahead of audience's anticipation. Apart from Alia's brilliant skin deep performance, nothing works for me. Story is more important than Style. Emotions are more important than actions. If you are a big fan of any Director, as a critic, it would be difficult for you to judge, any work of that director. Or you should not review his or her film.Otherwise it would be difficult for your job. Because your review will not be very authentic. Subconscious always matters in our decisions. Hope you didn't mind.

@@SucharitaTyagi Actually Critics and Judges are by default, should be non biased creatures. Different from other jobs. Do you know there are so many social restrictions for Judges. Public starts criticising CJI Chandrachur to invite PM in his residence. Very difficult job. Every artist Specially film directors, always love to hear good about him or her. They are all little bit narcissist. This is the reason, there is Eternal conflict between Director and Critics. So many successful Directors used to hate Pauline kael, Roger ebart and Andre Bazin.

I see the conversation about spoliers here. Not participating in it, but I have a tip to true movie enthusiasts here - if it's a movie you're definitely gonna watch in the theatre, consume as little promotion and review content about it as possible beforehand. Protect yourself. Like, I saw Sucharita's thumbnail which had positive text (that's all I needed to know at that point), skipped the review, and went to watch the movie. Came back and watched the review.

@@shrilathaputhi best would be if she can mention Spoiler alert in the title .... if it's a must... But many other reviewers are able to manage without giving so much details so I don't think it's impossible to review a movie without spoiling it....Maybe a little more work is needed, but a good honest reviewer should be willing to put in that effort...

@@TheUnrulyMonsterYes, may be you're right. I was trying to recall about her work in the past (I have been a follower from the beginning), I can't recall any review where she has put out spoilers. Now that you mention it, I recall that she has put spoiler alerts for parts in some of her reviews. May be she could have done it for this one. Now that I have watched the film, I was trying to think anything she said in the review would hamper my experience if I knew beforehand. The father death scene wouldn't, it's there right at the beginning of the film. But the revolution slogan, I didn't think it was necessary to mention. Also, I don't like to know about cameos beforehand, I would like them to be pleasant surprises. But in this one, you hardly notice them. They're all blink and miss. I don't even recall Sikandar Kher, Radhika Madan disappeared before I figured out it's her, I only registered Akansha Ranjan Kapoor. But yes, I don't like know about cameos beforehand.

Just because you hated something does not give you the license to dictate the opinion of others! God people just cannot accept the hard truth that Alia can actually act well! Moreover even if the reviews are mixed none of the reviewers have criticized Alia's acting. The mixed reviews are for the plot holes in the story telling! Just because your favorite actress did not get good reviews for her performance from someone does not mean that the reviewer is biased!

‘Stone Faced’??!! Ever heard ‘Subtle Acting’??!! Do you have the courage to pass the same ‘Stone Faced’ jibe at ‘Ajay Devgan’??!! No!! Because according to you ‘Ajay Devgan’, ‘Sanjay Dutt’, etc…. are ‘Legends’, they are ‘Subtle Actors’, ‘They Express Through Eyes’, ‘Such Intense And Powerful Look’ and what not!! But if the same thing is done by ‘Alia Bhatt’, she becomes ‘Stone Faced’??!! Who is being convenient here??!! By the way, she has also done movies like ‘Highway’, ‘Gully Boy’, ‘Udta Punjab’, ‘Dear Zindagi’, ‘2 States’, ‘Kapoor And Sons’, Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhaniya’, ‘Badrinath Ki Dulhaniya’ with full and complete loud expressions but according to you in all those movies, she ‘Overacted’!! Right??!! So, if she does loud, modern, fun loving, carefree roles, then that is ‘Overacting’ and if she does soft, demeanour, subtle and serious roles, then that is ‘Stone Faced’!! Seriously, who is being convenient here??!!

@@seemonjena659 Exactly, ‘Alia Bhatt’ never got bad criticism from any film reviewers or film critiques or film experts in her entire career even when the films were flop like ‘Shaandar’ or ‘Sadak 2’ or ‘Kalank’!! People have always appreciated her work!! They say, the film went flop because of so and so reasons like the story or direction or screenplay, etc, etc,…. but no one till date has ever said anything wrong or bad about her performance!! Not being able to see a flaw in someone’s performance inspite of flaws in the film is what makes a person good actor!! And ‘Alia Bhatt’ achieved that since her very first movie!! People say she gets good scripts which are bound to be hit, hence her performances are good but the fact is, people always appreciated her performances even in bad scripts!! Whereas, few actors get appreciated only when their films get hit or they do good scripts!! Like ‘Shraddha Kapoor’ got appreciated only in movies like ‘Stree’ franchise, ‘Aashiqui 2’, ‘Ek Villian’, etc…., where genuinely the scripts and stories were good!! But if it was a bad script or a flop film, she always got criticised like ‘She could have done better’, ‘she has a long way to go’, etc…., People can literally check the reviews of all their films (hit and flop) if they don’t believe me!! Truly, ‘Alia Bhatt’ always got appreciated even if her film went flop whereas, ‘Shraddha Kapoor’ got appreciated only when her films were hit!! That itself shows that ‘Shraddha Kapoor’ needs good scripts in order to shine but ‘Alia Bhatt’ shines her way through even if the script is bad!! People just don’t understand!!

Just a sincere Alia who produces and acts , cannot consider huffing puffing and a gangubai demeanour as outstanding . It is not her fault really for the directors and writers never bother to settle into the story background at all . There is no time spent to understand how Alia transformed from a little girl to an angry protective elder sister except for some random shot of her father willing himself away. You just don’t feel for the characters especially the brother as he looks blank and disinterested ( probably the brief) Things only perk up when Alia struts around or Vivek the jailer appears or our dear Manoj gets into his own The script is in total shambles wi th no coherence in the twists and turns Unnecessary pot shots are taken at couple of nations to make up this fictional country.. absolutely irresponsible and idiotic if you ask me
