Agreed 100%.. Or at least played the song at ALL in unplugged.. Best unplugged ever, but that song would have been the best song on the best unplugged.. Wanted so bad to see the emotion on Layne's face singing this.. I can't find a live version of this song anywhere, and it makes me sad.
They tried to play it early on during the unplugged performance, first time layne started crying so they restarted it and then jerry started crying so they scrapped it, audience thought show was gonna be a diasaster then they played no excuses and everyone knew it would be a show for the ages
Rebuttal C Where did u read that, Sad stuff, certainly would have been epic if they could have performed. Open w nutshell close with do t follow and drop the mic.
My friend and drummer of 35 years passed away last October 14. In around 2007, he got VIP passes to AIC at the Filmore in Denver, CO and invited me to go. They played an electric set, struck the stage, played an acoustic set, struck the stage again, and reset for a second electric set. They sounded amazing. Thank you for that memory, EJ. Love ya brother. 👽✌️
Alice In Chains, despite their humble beginnings and harrowing struggles, are one of the most successful rock bands in recent memory. Jar of flies is one of the best selling EPs on record, and Jerry Cantrell is well known among guitarists. This song is quite emotionally powerful and not as well liked by mainstream audiences, but I wouldn’t call AIC underrated by any stretch of the word.
This Song is an anchor, u know? Always takes me back to those Dark moments / events, but u never stop going back to it, and back, and back, and back...
@@NUGGETVR3 i hope you're joking because that's one of the dumbest questions i've heard. i shouldn't honor such stupidity with a response, but will in hopes of enlightening you...because the expectation of the vast majority of fans is to maintain dynamics and sound. That said, let's see if you can correctly answer the following question: why did ACDC choose Brian Johnson (not Stevie Nicks) to replace Bon Scott?
Yeah 100 percent, wills voice is perfect for alot of the later stuff layne produced like stay away, and the mad season songs, definitely doesn't deserve the hate although I do feel he's a bit annoying when he's trying to hype up the crowds, didn't do it here but in some performances anytime he's not singing the lyrics hes doing a theatrical voice telling people to join him in singing mid song
Still kills me to this day that they didn't do this on the unplugged set .such beautiful song . I got like 3 songs that r capable of bringing a tear to my eye n this is one of them without a doubt
'Don't Follow' always made me feel like it was Jerry's goodbye to Layne, while its Layne comforting Jerry with his upbeat vocals (implying that we all eventually have to leave this world some how . . . as if he knew that his choices would lead to his early demise).
So awesome to finally hear this song live! I heard that they had wanted to do this song for Unplugged and that they tried and tried to get thru this song during rehearsals prior to the night of the show, but they kept breaking down because it held such meaning for them. Totally understand.
@@warweaponx6629 sorry, I forgot to reply. I am sorry, I don't remember where I saw this info, but I did see something in a conversation on Reddit when I was just trying to take a look to answer you. The reddit comment had said Layne was the one breaking down, but it seems that I had heard, somewhere, that it was Layne and Jerry breaking down during rehearsals prior to the night of the show, which is why it didn't appear in the Unplugged show supposedly.
It's crazy how the older I get, the more I relate to the words and music from people that clearly went through so much and found such a beautiful way of letting it out while somehow making me and so many others feel so much better and not alone. Thanks Mr. Staley.
We all know no one can replace layne but william steppin' in is not bad at all coz 1. he can play guitar so they dont need no extra member making it easy for jerry 2. his voice may not be similar to layne but it will do
who thinks his voice is not similar to layne's? their voices are about as similar as two humans' voices can be. duvall's voice has a very similar quality but is a little lower. layne's voice later in his life sounds a lot more fried than duvall's, but that's because he was on heroin. not only does it dry your throat and vocal cords out and just generally cause vocal fry, but if you sing loudly and scream while your throat is that dry it causes permanent damage. so it's kind of hard for someone to intentionally imitate that, since the dryness of your throat is not something you control with muscles, it's just a consequence of your lifestyle. looking at layne's early career, like before alice in chains, his voice sounds a lot less fried
After being clean from sh for a year I accidentally made a mistake and relapsed today, its very disappointing to me and though i know i cant really talk and communicate my feelings to anyone right now, this song will forever have a place in my heart for helping me through these hard times in the past, present and in the future. Thank you for your beautiful pieces of art Layne staley, may you rest in peace as one coming day i will join in eternal pain and bliss thank you.
iF THIS ISNT THE SADDEST SONG ....EVER....JESUS...I CANT STAND IT....I AM SOBBING!...OH LAYNE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!R.I.P DEAR ONE..THANKYOU FOR ALL YOU GAVE US!
This is such a fucking perfect song in every possible regard... Not to mention from 3:30 is one of the BEST outros of any song ever written. Just makes you feel so.. lifted. RIP Layne, thank you for everything you left us with.
Seen Alice every single time they have played in London UK for the last 25 years. With Layne they were extraordinary, but this tour was special too. We didn't know if they wld ever play again. The London Astoria was packed. Probably a third of the crowd went apeshit. When we wer'nt slaming, strangers were hugging and singing along as loud as they could. Junkhead went down a storm. Great setlist. Good times. Good luck to all of you and rip mike and Layne.
Love this tune! Makes me feel good when I'm sad. Makes me appreciate life, love, and good alt rock! RIP Layne, you are missed. RIP Chris Cornell, you were in this club!
You can hear the pain in jerrys voice..... i love william in the new aic songs. But no one will ever replace layne, born too late to get to seem layne live.. rest in peace
I saw AIC on Halloween night in Worcester Massachusettes in 1991. They were backing up Van Halen ( with Sammy Hagar). I knew them from their song Rooster cuz it was on the radio at that time. They sounded amazing and I've been a fan ever since.
I will NEVER miss a chance to be a part of Jerry's genius. Some people follow sports, I follow Jerry! Whether the music is with AIC or a solo project, the connection is bar none. Personally, I "feel" every note and nuance and find myself listening to the same composition repeatedly, isolating the tracks and being amazed at their individual power and beauty. Every now and then, my neighbor down the road gets to enjoy too!
AiC was there when I went thru them dark times, bright times. After I got married and felt lost (long story) and at the birth of my children. They're always gonna be there for me, I know it. RIP Layne Staley.
Found this song a couple of weeks ago, at first I just liked the sound of it but the moment I really started listening to the lyrics it hit me hard. Basically everything he sings about happend to me in the past 2 years. I always thought it was weird that people found the strength to go on in music but I fully understand that now
Thank You Jerry! I love your writing, singing & playing abilities. I admire you in so many ways. You Rocked my world in Charleston SC! You are a true survivor & legend. Nothin but respect for you. Rock on !!!
This song always makes my heart so sad for Jerry. Watching loved ones slowly killing themselves is one of the worst things to live through. We will never hear another duo like Layne and Jerry, or a solo vocalist with the emotion, soul, control and power of Layne in our lifetimes...maybe in several lifetimes. 😢❤
I met a lot of amazing, intelligent and very polite/super nice people today and I just want to thank them all for the love and support for our music and educational variety playhouse . god bless you each and every one much love .. long time
I was 7 y/o and my 16 y/o brother had to pick me up from catechism class every Wednesday in his T top white firebird. We listened to a lot of AIC and laughed out loud when we tried our best hit the note on “scared.” Thoughtful song but a very silly and cheerful memory.
You know... I'll give you credit where credits due.... Layne's mom Nancy said it best in book called...Angry Chair .....you can be Alice in chains all you want but you'll never be Alice in chains without Layne....Jerry Cantell tried that Solo... 😎....Layne was Alice in chains
Always likesd AIC, but the first time I heard this was WOW. Creeping on Led Zep territory. So much soul and pain in Lane's singing... Zep had their stuff, but AIC belongs right up there at the top. My opinion.
Nothing beats the original... but this is sweet 👌 RIP Layne, got me thru a lot of shit back in my teens... thanx Master Cantrell for carrying it on 🍺😎🤘
