In this video I watch, react and review the movie Alien from 1979. This was a tremendous movie that clearly laid the groundwork for all sci-fi movies that came after it! Horror movies as well!

After watching 'Alien' I refused to walk down the aisle in Toys R' Us that had the 'Alien' action figures/dolls on the shelf. That movie was one of the most suspenseful movies I had seen in a long time. All these years later and it still gives me the chills.

'Alien' and 'Aliens' (1986) are the only movies in the franchise worth watching. The groundbreaking sci-fi movie which set the style for the '70s and '80s was '2001: A Space Odyssey' (1968).
@kevsclassicmovies
@kevsclassicmovies Месяц назад
I'll definitely keep that in mind! I totally forgot about a space odyssey! Never seen it but I have heard of it! Also, I looked it up, Star Trek started in the early-mid 60s!! That probably also laid some foundation as well!

While i understand that feeling, I have to disagree. He's clearly interested in the lore, and most of that takes place in the films beyond the second...
@robinhartzell2380

The first and second are definitely the best, but I think all are, at a minimum, good. The first two are hard to beat, though. I actually loved the prequels, and for me, "Prometheus" would rank as #3 in the franchise. They were visually stunning, but I concede that they are a controversial topic among fans. I agree that "2001: A Space Odyssey" is foundational for modern sci-fi. That movie was so ahead of its time--the villain is emotive, self-aware AI, and it came out in 1968! Wild!

After Star Wars was released to unprecedented success studios scrambled to find sci fi properties to film. They all wanted a piece of the action. As a result Star Trek: The Motion Picture was brought to the cinema and was released the same year as Alien (the original TV series was 66-69) What no one bargained for was the genius of Ridley Scott a virtually unknown director at the time with only one movie under his belt. The other thing that made the look of Alien unique was the work of the Swiss artist HR Giger who designed the Alien and the ship it was found in. The impact of Alien was huge and is still felt today. No one had seen anything quite like it. Star Wars itself had a huge impact on Ridley Scott. The used, worn out look of the spaceships and equipment was a far cry from the world of Star Trek and the sci fi that had gone before. He adopted that look for his "truckers in space" in Alien. It has influenced so many movies and video games ever since, it is a truly ground breaking film. And its great to see it still have an impact today. Another thing that was kind of unique at the time (for a film from a major studio) was that there was no star. It meant that you had no idea who was going to die next. And you accepted them in their roles as real people, ordinary folks. And seeing the Aliens life cycle made you believe it could be real. Great reaction I look forward to seeing more. 👍👍

Just one more point.🙄 The Alien was right outside the shuttle and was baring the way between Ripley and the shuttle. She had less than 5 minutes to make a decision. She could wait and hope it moved, try and fight it and hope she wins (and she is terrified and no doubt exhausted), or turn the self destruct off and find another way. It would at least buy her time.
@kevsclassicmovies
@kevsclassicmovies Месяц назад
I agree! The only reason I knew Ripley was the main character is because all the poster art and a few clips I've seen from the sequel! I LOVE the fact that the characters all died off in no order, not knowing who would go next! I also never really knew exactly HOE much Alien played into all of the video games and movies and TV shows. It was just so clear that Alien legitimately laid the foundation for SO many future movies and games! Thank you a TON for your input!! I appreciate the love!

Star WArs came in 1977. In 1978 we already got 3 low budget copies of Star Wars. I kinda liked them but still. Creators of "Alien" wanted to show another side of space, not that bright/colorful like in Star Wars and I LOVE it. Special effects in Alien look much more realistic. The characters look real. I adore this film

There are hundreds of sci-fi horror films from the silent movies to the 1950s. ALIEN is influenced especially by Planet of the Vampires & 2001: A Space Odyssey. Star Wars was made by a lot of special effects artists from 2001. 20th Century Fox made Star Wars for $18Million not expecting a big money maker so when it became the biggest money maker ever they green lit ALIEN. They made sure the effects would match Star Wars quality and did a rewrite to make it an A picture. The rape and male birth horror is unique to the Alien story. When trying to choke Ripley he sticks a porn magazine in her mouth. The series of Alien movies after this are low quality.
@kevsclassicmovies
@kevsclassicmovies Месяц назад
I've never even heard of Planet of the Vampires!! I'll have to add those to the list! I didn't even catch the fact both movies are from the same studio! That would make sense why they were so fast to green light Alien! Excellent knowledge!! Thanks for the background! That's both bizarre and fascinating about the shoving a born magazine in her mouth. I just thought it was a magazine. Just really bizarre behavior lol. I loved this movie a lot!! Thank you for your support and view!!

A few things, I don’t blame anyone for not thinking about it because they don’t mention it again, but the alien has acid blood. That’s why they don’t kill it when it first emerges. The acid would eat right through the floor and they’d all die. You wondered why Mother allowed Ripley to start the self destruct. The ship isn’t fully automated, which explains why there’s a crew at all. I also don’t think anyone would be comfortable with the self destruct being under the control of the main AI. Nice badge and patch collection you got going in the background. 👍

You mentioned at one point that the people who make movies don’t put in the kind of effort they used to… as in this movie and like when Ewan McGregor and Hayden Christiansen spent hours and hours a day working on lightsaber battles-one of the things that made those look so realistic. That opinion is (perhaps partly) due to the fact that you have not been exposed to the amount of research/training that goes into making other movies. There are documentaries online (and as movie pack extras) that show Keanu Reeves doing all of his combat training for the Matrix and John Wick series, all of the men from 300 doing their combat/exercise routines, and of course, Tom Cruise who trains non-stop to do 95% of his own stunts (including aeronautics, motorcycling, car driving, skydiving, rock climbing, etc). Every industry-specific movie also has a research consultant that advises them on aspects of the script/action/gadgetry. How well any of these aspects is fleshed out is noticeable/debatable, but they *do* in fact put the work in. Good reaction, BTW.
@kevsclassicmovies
@kevsclassicmovies Месяц назад
A lot of the movies today don't have those dedicated actors/actresses anymore. Keanu and Tom are two current day LEGENDS with how they carry themselves professionally! I love them!! A lot of the current actors have main character syndrome and don't take that extra step to look that much better. And the writers clearly showed their research of Alien! I love that extra effort!

There is always an Android on every space mission that the company sends out. Ash didn’t know about the alien it until they discovered it. So they send one on every single mission? Do the people not typically know who the android is then? I'm genuinely curious :) I loved diving into this movie with the different lore! I'm even more curious at why they wanted the lifeforms so bad!! Thank you so much for the comment and tuning in!!
@RR64434
@RR64434 7 дней назад
You’re welcome. I think it becomes clearer in future movies but I think somehow the Defense Department knew about the signal beforehand but didn’t necessarily know what the result of the signal would lead to and that is why they placed an Android on board without the knowledge of the crew. This is my favorite movie of all time and thank you for reacting to it and loving it. I saw it when I was 9 years old and the realism of what could conceivably happen if the human race stumbled upon a life form left an indelible mark on me. I loved Star Wars but it was much more fantastical than this Movie. The grittiness of the cinematography, the theme and the writing makes this movie stand the test of time.

Some people put a watermark over the movie- Usually just a big piece 90% opacity white Impact font that says "COPYRIGHT". Don't worry about don't worry about covering up the picture- 100% of the people watching your video have already seen it. Also, music is a big copyright trigger. If you can find some kind of reverse-karaoke filter that will garble just the music, that will help. Otherwise, do a lot of cuts and/or audio dropouts while music is playing.
