if you go watch prometheus and alien: covenant with the mindset that humanity sent the most dumbest and useless human beings on a trip to a planet they knew was deadly you can actually enjoy these films
At least prometheus had cool world building and characters inspite of some retarded scenes the Movie was good. While Covenant on the other hand is the last Jedi of this franchise. It ruined what the previous movie built all the potential down the drain. They should've continued with naomi repace.
Considering what we know about Weyland Yutani it’s very possible they sent the least qualified and least trained folks into the void of space because it saved money
Prometheus at least had the excuse that a good chunk of the characters were science nerds that had no idea of what the mission was about and didn't receive any training. Covenant has colonists that were expecting to setup on another planet and thrive there unassisted, there is no excuse for why such a mission didn't only have the best trained and most resilient minded survivalists available on earth as a crew, not yet another bunch of bumbling morons.
@@gba1525I dislike almost everything about the movie. Just many rehashed plots and character beats from not just one but multiple entries in the IP. The cgi in many scenes is egregious. The pacing feels off. One redeeming quality is Michael Fasbender. I think the idea of a newer robot model interacting with an older one was interesting enough, for the franchise in its current state. Hoping the best for Romulus. Fede Alvarez has many good movies under his belt so this may finally be a good one after many meh entries. I did enjoy Prometheus but just felt so distanced from the franchise, it almost didn’t feel like an Alien movie. But they took creative leaps and some of those shots are still so mesmerizing. Cheers
The most frustrating thing about this movie is that multiple grown adults with decades in the industry read the script and said “Yes, let’s give this millions to produce.” “Characters slip on blood twice? Sure. Hysterical female blows herself up? Why not! Explorers go to an alien planet but instead of wearing respiratory protective gear, their hats have little ear flaps? fucking gold” This movie achieved a level of teeth grinding stupidity that I hope we never have to endure again. But then again, Indiana Jones 5 will be sure to make us cherish this turd.
I think my favorite part about alien covenant is the fact that they just completely abandon a colonization mission to colonize a planet that looks better. Cuz you know that totally is going to be allowed and whatever government they have is just going to be like yeah good call don't go to the planet that we've researched and approved and probably prepared tons of logistics for.
Why did they just land? How about staying in orbit and scanning the planet to see if there's anything worth getting killed over? Or dropping a few drones to test the atmosphere?
I’m remember watching this movie at the theater as I like Alien and was curious about this origin for the Xenomorph. Don’t know if I was with someone or not, I could not help think how utterly stupid it was and disliked the Neomorph. It’s not as good as the Xenomorph, but the movie shows how more “better” it is with how it instantly grow up and mauls everyone in minutes after birth. But the sheer stupidity of the characters were too much. Every thing was a set piece for scary scenes. And how the Xenomorph was a stick puppet to the Android. I wish I could forget this movie.
A more believable scenario would be if they were passengers/colonizers in hypersleep who find themselves on the planet after the science crew perishes or is forced to jettison them for survival. This creates a relatable 'ordinary people in extraordinary circumstances' situation, similar to the premise of Pitch Black (which itself draws inspiration from Alien). That kind of story feels much more compelling than the flawed scientist setup seen in Covenant.
That won't work in this scenario, only if humanity already colonized many planets and space travel is ordinary thing. Because this is supposed to be First colonized mission. Every person of those 2000 colonists should be very competent and good at various things, because new planet and who knows what can go wrong. So having every colonist with two-three or even more specialization for first colonization mission will be a necessity. for it to succeed and not them nor dying to some shit, because they have only couple of specialists and they died.
Although Ridley Scott did not write 'Alien Covenant' or 'Alien', it's hard to believe that the guy who directed 'Alien' a film with one of the most compelling and competent female protagonists in all of scifi/action/horror cinema history, produced and directed this schlock.
In my opinion, Ridley Scott's only does well when he has a competent crew behind him. He knows how to make movies pretty and when he has good material to work with the man can cook. But without competent people and decent material, he turns out mediocre movies at best.
Unlike Alien, he developed the direction of both Prometheus and Covenant. So even if he didn't personally write the script, he still decided what the story would be and what would happen.
Yep always remember this. Could of had something that revived the series. Sad that only a computer game has come to close to good story line “alien isolation”.
Any other movie besides covenant will have been better , but to have a 60 years age replay holding a rifle its too much for me.There is a reason that the movies called alien and not ellen ripley family
How not to have this movie: remember to pack probes/drones you can send to the alien planet first to shoot lots of video and test for things before you even think of landing yourself, even wearing a suit and a helmet.
If there is something to be learned it is that old franchises need to be left alone. Name me one goddamn movie in the past decade or so, linked to an older franchise, that even comes close to being as good.
Well I for one find the plot believable. I've scene Idiocracy and I've seen who's breeding. Honestly I'm surprised our futuristic colonists are smart as they are.
Another one of Cinema's dumbest movie's are also Star Wars Rise Of Skywalker and Jurassic World Dominion,Both are the end if terrible trilogies and both written by the same writers...Bruh because of how desperate Studio's are for as much content as possible they will make un experienced basically 20 year old to write an enter Movie/T.V season script on a laptop under an hour
Gets triggered and says "you haven't seen what I have seen what I have seen" is that galadriel from rings of power? Lol does she also shout THERE IS A TEMPEST IN ME!!!!! LOL evil elf girl is crazy
Since the 'Prometheus' that ridley scott is dead to me! Most dumb director ever existed (I hope he reads this comment). I am so glad I didn't watch this one i had the feeling it would be the same dumb work of art. But I did love to see this review, made laugh a lot. Thanks for doing this mate
I've been Watching a series of Alien Covenant videos on how bad it is I would recommend watching the Critikal Drinker's Alien Covenant review. The video is very informative and quite funny
it was a bold decision from weyland yutani, setting up a colonising mission with a crew composed entirely of down syndrome patients to cut costs and i'm not too sure it paid off
I can't believe people actually like and defend this film. There's a difference between "dumb fun" (eg. Predators), and then there's a clusterfuck of a film, that tries SO hard to be as serious, intelligent and good as its predecessors (like this one). I only watched it once on DVD when it came out and that was enough. Absolutely fucking HATED it. Hell, I'd even watch Alien vs Predator Requiem over this trash. Can't believe Ridley Scott, who created the first masterpiece of this franchise made this 180 degree turn in terms of film making.
Such wasted potential in this story... I legitimately felt ashamed and enraged at humanity and started siding with David towards the end... like you know what? he has a point.
As dumb as this part was, the single dumbest moment was the part with Oram. He shoots the neomorph which is standing in front of David. David is visibly upset about this. Oram is suspicious of David. For some reason Oram doesn't just shoot David (remember, David is a robot, do it's not like he's got to murder a person, it's like turning off a laptop) David takes Oram to a creepy room and promises answers if he just looks into the weird egg object that just opened Oram then does it!!! Like, wtf? How stupid is this person?
Same as a Geologist getting lost, and a biologist taking off his helmet to give an alien snake a smooch. Wtf. I’m a geologist and I was talking about this movie to a colleague. He said “but geologists make maps for a living, and they had mapping drones.” Yep. Mapping drones they don’t have in covenant for some reason. Lol. Shit writing.
My biggest Problem with this Movie is the Alien origin Story why does it need one? Does a Tiger or a Bear need a origin Story. For me the Alien was an Animal and that was scary enough.
the dumbest thing is also that anything writers want can give an alien life...some spores some flowers and etc... no animal can be that strong and even being not alive KNOW that you need to go to this persons ear or nose the give a life...
I really wanted to like this movie, sense the premise is interesting, and I've always enjoyed creature horror movies. But the level of stupidity of the astronauts is just too much. And for NO reason; they could have moved the plot in the same direction while having them make more believable / reasonable choices.
oh ya, an alien world that has oxygen on it. Let's completey ignore the certainty of alien microbes that we have zero idea of how they will effect our bodies and take off our helmets to breathe in the fresh air!
I think Danny MacBride is hilarious, and I can’t blame him for accepting this role… but who TF thought he was right for this. Every time he speaks it’s a complete anachronism and not in a good way. It’s like Marty from Back to the Future popping up in the middle of a grim horror movie.
I liked Prometheus. A couple of dumb decisions but overall it was a very good film and I could get around the dumbness. Covenant on the other hand, every single decision in the movie was literally the dumbest thing you could have done in that situation. Its baffling that the script actually even got approved
I seriously HATE the stupid people in horror movies, the ones who mess things up and do the most thoughtless things... it triggers me, reminding me that this is actually the most realistic thing about such movies... the useless idiocy of most humans walking around. When she locked the lady in the room instead of just I dno.. yelling to exit the room immediately? TF lol
Media literacy is dead, they're ill equipped and unprepared for everything THAT'S THE POINT! This way of criticising the film for something that you want it to be when it isn't that ISNT CRITICISM, it's shit cinema sins style discourse that doesn't say anything. The slips are the best part of the sequence, it's darkly comedic on purpose.
This is why I can't trust anyone who tells me he actually enjoyed/likes Prometheus and covenant. Ridley Scott should be prohibited to ever make movies again
@@bamhamer No film is factually bad, it's art and opinion. And the Alien franchise was better off with Prometheus and Covenant than 3 and Resurrection, Ridley Scott actually had coherent themes and ideas on creation, hubris and faith.
I remember thinking "did that seriously just happen?!?", but you know what, I actually enjoyed the movie anyway....amazingly less frustrating than Prometheus
I think that's simply how everything would play out if you would let a bunch of millennial, diversity hires plan and execute such a mission. It's a movie made for modern audiences as they say, if you watch the movie from the perspective of such a person, it's exactly how it should be, everything you see here is completely logical.
John Logan and Dante Harper wrote the screenplay, while Jack Paglen and Michael Green wrote the story. These are the twirps behind the plot you're complaining about. Ridley Scott simply directed the bad script. He didn't write it.
Such a stupid movie !!! All these guys are allegedly specialist to colinate a planet that they were already trained for, BUT the halfass 2nd in command decides to scrap their original order to chase a rouge transmission where there is no way any humans could be, right? Then they land on this unknown planet and get surprised by crazed aliens but before that they noticed that there is absolutely no wildlife. If that couldn't sway your bad idea of coming to that unforsaken place in the first friggin place then I guess that they all got what was coming to them.
