I've always suggested that every Alien movie was a different genre: Alien was horror, Aliens was action, Alien 3 was a thriller, and Resurrection was a comedy.
Yes! That jibes with my theory that each movie tells you a lot about when it was made - the 1979 horror movie, the Reagan-era action movie, the AIDS metaphor, and, uh, not sure how Resurrection fits the theme, but the first three do.
In Stallone's Demolition Man, there was a “war of the brands”, In which at the end, now every food facility Is named Taco Bell. I REALLY want to see this backstory!
Winona Rider deserves additional props for the underwater sequence. She was terrified of water after a childhood near death (or near drowning) experience. But after difficulty with getting good shots with a stunt double, she faced her fears like a goddamn champion for the sake of her art. (Just to clarify, this is not to say that any actor should ever be forced into any situation that makes them so extremely uncomfortable and traumatized. Just showing the respect that is due in its specific context, she did it NOT do it out of outside pressure but of her own free will for the sake of making the best movie she could and wanting to move forward from her trauma, and the director did everything he could to make a safe & supportive environment)
This version of Ripley’s character would’ve been great to have in a Predator vs Aliens movie, since she has enhanced abilities and would’ve been able to hang with the predators when the acid blood hit the fan
@wolfaesthetic The acid can spread throughout his face and cause even more damage, we didn't see much though since he quickly unbuckled himself and fell to his death.
@@deanlongmire6166 the movie should have shown more than surface level burns or had it so the alien retreated rather than died. That way the acid would still be burning since alien blood is magic and stops burning when the alien dies
Tbh, that line delivery for "What's in-fucking-side me?!" will forever be the funniest thing to me. The plot and dialogue for this movie, especially the very blatant Whedon-esque dialogue, is just awful but that one line always earns a chuckle from me. Just the look in his eyes and his facial expression when he just outright screams it is just so great to me.
So, from what I've heard, there are two special things to note about this movie. The first is that they did not have any molds for the Alien Queen used in this. Instead, a fan of the films donated his original alien queen head, which was destroyed during the movie. Second, According to Fangoria magazine, the reason the newborn was so into 8 was because it had a boner for her. No, really. The censors refused to allow the film to air in theaters with alien boner, so the producers had to digitally remove it from every scene that had his lower torso shown.
BethBeRad Christy was my favorite character. Not just cause he was so good looking. I was hoping his character survived... sadly it was not ment to be.
As much as I can see why so many people hate this version of Ripley, I actually really liked the idea of a human/alien hybrid and using a well-known character as the basis for it really showed the differences between the two species.
And it helps that it doesn't step on the original Ripley's story or invalidate her sacrifice. She's dead, and this is a new character. And from what I heard, this was the first Alien movie where they didn't need to downplay how tall Weaver was, which she quite appreciated.
funny enough. it reminds me of samus. samus became part metroid. ripley becomes part alien. funny how these two come together so well. especially with alien's inspiration on metroid.
Ya I don’t think this really “assassinated” her character as James put it, that character was gone after alien 3. I thought her weird mannerisms made sense considering she was part xenomorph. I think one of the scientists described it as emotional autism
I think the best thing about this movie is how insanely beautiful Winona Ryder is. Also, I've never really appreciated just how creepy the Newborn looks.
Call was definitely the best part of this movie since... well, she was an actually interesting character (although Perez was pretty fun too). If you took her and put her in literally any other Alien content, it would be golden.
The host was very right when he said the captain of the Bettey was probably snoopin around trying to be handsome or something. That captain is the best looking man I have EVER seen. I was mad he got killed so early in the movie. One handsome man.
In regards to Christie's death, I always assumed that the acid spit onto his face was eating into his skull/through his eye cavity and into his brain, causing some kind of acid-induced stroke. I mean, it eats through solid metal floors, what's flesh and bone, right? Because it happens on the left side of his face and his left arm seems to give first, then the other, I thought he no longer had the strength in his limbs to support his own bodyweight and used the last of his fried motor functions to unbuckle his harness so his larger mass didn't drag Vriess off the ladder with him. I thought the same weird paralysis had caused him to lose the co-ordination to shake his legs to get the dead xenomorph off. It's in no way a clear portrayal if this *was* what they were going for and maybe I'm making things up in my head because I had a soft spot for this trashy sequel back in the day as an impressionable teen. I was also maybe projecting my own experiences with paresthesia and loss of function to the right side of my face and arm from migraines which I suffered from a young age (which FYI later in life led to the discovery of brain lesions /mild brain damage/white matter stroke risk) but all the same, maybe it was a bit of self-insertion too. Anyways, still a lame death in the end and no less ridiculous as the rest of the movie, but just wanted to present my alternative theory to him just saying 'f**k it' and dying because he was too lazy to just shake that precariously hanging xeno corpse off his damn boot! LOL
this was the first Alien movie I saw in theaters, back in the days when I sat in the front row and at some point during the movie a fucking Xenomorph walked in the entrance on one side of the theater, walked down to the front just under the screen then walked across to the other side and exited out the other side of the theater. Yeah i'll never forget that story, much like the night me and my brother went to go see Pitch Black when it was in theaters and it was storming outside and the power went out like 4 or 5 times during the movie.
There's another movie where he plays a mad scientist for a company building perfect killing machine robots. It's called Death Machine and has characters named Weyland, Yutani, and Ridley. The GoodBad Flicks channel has a good video on the movie. The Death Machine kinda looks like a cyberpunk Xenomorph Queen too.
At first I never knew that Prometheus was related to the Alien series (I know, I've been living under a rock) but I've learned so much from Found Flix's and Dead Meat's channel.
13:10 I know it's literally been years but if you're still up at night about this its because the chest buster pumps his body with adrenaline to keep the chest buster alive because that's all humans are to the aliens, safe incubation machines.
The original script is online. Most of this movies issues is the director turning the film into a black comedy. Whedon's og version, while not amazing, was more like Aliens with some pretty cool stuff in it
14:37 I thought you were dead" - "I get that a lot" James: "No you don't, you've been alive for like a day, who would have told you that?" I mean, 4:58 of your own video maybe?
Fun fact, Alien 5 was going to be helmed by James Cameron and Ridley Scott. But they abandoned it after they heard about AVP. Because they thought the franchise was being milked too hard.
I love this movie! I think it has some interesting visuals, awesome music, a good use of practical effects, and I feel most of the cast were having fun with their characters, which for me makes the movie enjoyable. I can see why it’s hated though, including but not limited to the portrayal of Ripley, some of the characters being annoying, and the movie overall feeling cartoony. But for me, those pitfalls make me feel that the movie was never supposed to be taken anywhere near as seriously as the previous entries, and when I go into it with that mindset, I find the film far more enjoyable.
I liked this one because I felt like a lot of it was to make amends for Alien3 - they brought back Ripley and she got to be an acid-flinging bitch, she's sexual and powerful, and she gets to go home to earth.
Yeah, I see what you mean, I'm like that as well. I watch a movie for entertainment and so while watching this movie, I'm not thinking about how good or bad it is, I'm just looking to be entertained. I also love this movie, purely because it was so damn entertaining and I honestly find that most 'disappointing' sequels to great films, I still find enjoyable.
For all the flaws, and it does have flaws....I really like that this movie returns to the taboo cross-species sexuality theme that made the original so memorably disturbing--the scene with the failed clones is right up there with the original chestburster for me. I also appreciate that they don't invalidate the story of (the original) Ripley and let her sacrifice stand, with this one emphatically not being the same character.
I loved this movie. I love all the alien movies including the predator movies. They're nostalgic for me. But I won't deny there are some stupid moments in them but that's why I love them even more. For me they're a cult classic
“I thought you were dead” “Yeah I get that a lot” James : “no you don’t you have been alive like a day.” Me: well yeah but hearing that twice would seem like a lot. Plus in Aliens she was floating in space for long enough to outlive her daughter, so she probably had a lot of people think she was dead. And in Alien 3 after the ship lost connection and crashed on a prison planet, people probably thought she was dead. Then she died and I’m assuming they also thought she was dead
@@chari_czn also even if it’s just taking the clone’s experience, “I thought you were dead” is one of like 5 interactions she’s had since her creation. That would seem like she hears it a lot I’m jokingly nitpicking
Controversy time!!! Alien: Resurrection is a fun and entertaining movie. I agree that the HuLien is fun to watch and I kind of felt bad for it when it was dying. Yes the dialogue and acting S.U.X but I still like it.
2:19 according to xenopedia on fandom: "When Wren enters and tells Gediman about Weyland-Yutani, he elaborates on the company's fate, explaining that they were bought out by Walmart several decades previously."
does anyone else feel like the mercenaries' entrance feels an awful lot like Deadspace 1? I mean the ship they fly in on and the planet in the background
Joshua Lopez Probably because there are so many deaths in that movie so it would be difficult to count. Also, if someone disagrees with you about a movie, it's fucking stupid to think that they're scared of it and that they're a kid.
I actually liked Resurrection more than A3. It was cool to see "Ripley" be more than just a plucky-but-not-really-that-tough normal person. I liked her badass, quirky turn, and actually hoped to see a sequel that explored her being on Earth, perhaps with a full-blown Alien invasion! Plus, the kills in this one were WAY more awesome and gross than any others in the series. Good, campy fun, if you can unplug your purist brain and enjoy a badass romp!
Welcome to the series total, where I count the total kills in all your favorite horror series. I’m Michael Boyd and I’ve counted the total kills in the alien series, in this total I do count the prequel and the prequel sequel, so with that said, I counted 155 kills! I hope this helped you. Stay tuned for the Nightmare on Elmstreet franchise. As always leave a like on this comment and reply. I hope you have a wonderful day. Bye!
Yes, it was like an infant that didnt know the difference between good and bad, because nobody taught him. I felt so sorry for him, he didnt really have evil intentions, opposed to the violent and sadistic Xenos.
@@ghostofuchiha3807 I never looked at the Xenomorphs as evil or sadistic. They never inflict wounds on humans for violence sake. They just have an instinct of better to shoot/attack first and ask questions later. Unlike the Dodo bird(or animals on the Galapagos Islands) which didn't fear humans, because they never met. Having a healthy fear of the unknown is definitely a sign of higher intelligence. Honestly their instincts were on point though; the humans in the series as a whole wanted to use and abuse the Xenomorphs(and the ones who didn't want them for experiments or weapons plain wanted them extinct I.E. Ripley). For all we know they have a certain degree of telepathy and were just as scared us as we are of them.
They kill for the sake of killing, not for food. Being intelligent means being aware of what you do. They know what pain and suffering they cause, the Newborn didnt.
Salem Baron One could argue they are like a scared bull raging at their tormentors/captors(in the case of isolated xenomorphs ala Alien and Alien3) . While the ones in Aliens and Resurrection were being territorial and only killing humans for the sake of reproduction.
