@@TwistedMarshmallow He likely works in an industry that requires the use of a hardhat, or more likely is commenting on the sometimes ridiculous safety standards set by OSHA (Occupational Safety and Health Administration) that often times don't actually help keep men and women safe, but tend to limit them in often annoying ways. A lot of the laws set by organizations like OSHA tend to be outdated, and don't have the actual wellbeing of the men and women who work in dangerous fields in mind, but worry more about lawsuits and the like. Of course OSHA is useful too though, having laws that require businesses to provide safety equipment and such which previously people had to pay for themselves, or risk injury. Either way, it was just a joke that he felt a direct relative with, given he probably works a heavily structured and/or restricted job that forces a lot of annoying little rules on the workers. Anyway, I hope that helps. Maybe the OP can weigh in on the subject, but I personally can say.. in the job I worked doing body work on classic cars, OSHA was a huge pain in the ass about small stuff... we had a special room in the back, with a cage, and a steel cabinet inside that cage, and they would fine us if all the doors weren't properly locked at all times... there was just paint and paint thinner and the like in there. Not nukes. Stuff we needed to access several times a day, a go through a locked door, a locked cage, and open a locked cabinet, take what we need, and do it all again in reverse... oops, that was mineral spirits! I needed acetone... gotta do it ALL AGAIN! Or how our office AC unit, couldn't exhaust into our open air shop area.. so we had to get rid of it, until we could afford to make it vent outside... very annoying stuff. But I think the inspector just hated my boss because he was kind of an asshole. But, a loveable asshole. Haha Sorry for the rant, I just figured I'd explain some of my experiences with OSHA and what he might have meant.
