Game looks great. But why not have someone with a bit more VR experience handle this preview… whenever you guys cover vr it’s always pretty negative towards the medium.
Reviews from people with all kinds of degree of experience are valuable. It's important to have people that don't have much experience with VR, or at least casual experience with it, because a game from a franchise like Aliens will be enticing to people who haven't used VR much or at all. They'll want to hear from people like them, and if they like it, it will encourage more people to try out VR games. Just means that those who want to hear from people with more experience in VR need to look at more reviews from VR Enthusiasts, which aren't exactly hard to find. I always thought Famitsu's method of having 4 reviewers per game made a lot of sense, something other big outlets like IGN should consider.
@@_hedwyn"Reviews from people with all kinds of degree of experience are valuable." to an extent but if your reviewing a new speedboat you don't really want someone seasick all the time.
@@RedcoatTrooper I know people who've had and played VR for years and never entirely got over their motion sickness. Where I have never experienced it at all. Again, if a reviewer can play VR games but needs them to offer some comfort settings, that doesn't invalidate the review. So unless the review is "I've never been able to play VR for more than 10 minutes without throwing up" I don't think that's much of a comparison.
It’s sad that previews cannot convey how it really feels being there in VR. It’s incredible and people may miss the opportunity because they may think that VR graphics are crappy. I used to think that, but now 90% of time I play in VR…
@@ThomasVvV but the immersion of VR more than makes up for it, even much less graphically impressive games end up looking gorgeous in VR because of 6dof 3D effect and large field of view
@@ThomasVvV Don't knock it till you try it. It will blow your mind when you play something like Resident Evil 4 for the first time in vr. It literally makes you the main character. What's not to love?
@@djp1234 although non-official mod is good enough for game to be playable, I would appreciate the official port with all those little tweaks we miss in MotherVR.
Nobody realizes it until they try it. That’s why people say that VR games look bad on a flat RU-vid video. But then they eventually get a headset and their minds are blown.
@@Actualchristianityfor real man been trying to convince my friends for years, they dont understand but the ones who bought a headset dont play it because they’re lazy
Seems like VR is finally really hitting its stride. I’ve always enjoyed it, but we’re actually starting to get a steadier stream of great full length AAA style games.
@@GAMERTAGVR indeed it looks a bit smooth. Hopefully not some dated design choices from Servios though I am pretty sure Raw data had full reloading so would be odd to go backwards. Anyway hopefully you can preview it soon and I will await that video.
If ANYBODY comes in here saying VR is dead, like time to kick them in the junk. That's like saying Alien Isolation should get a 5 outa 10. Holy AAA gaming on my Quest 3 these days. And this is day one for me. I've waited my entire life to play EXACTLY this type of game. And its in VR...this is a bucket item list for me. I'm building a Pulse Rifle VR gun stock just for this game.
There are a ton of VR gun attachment options. I had the gun controller for PSVR1 and once played Borderlands 2 VR for like 3 or 4 hours without realizing. Now you can get one with haptic recoil, etc.
@@dusk1234567890 That's a good point. Also, they're not a die hard VR enthusiast, so they're not biased. Hopefully this year's cornucopia of VR games stand equal to some of the best flatscreen games. It seems like Batman does from most reviews. Also, a super VR enthusiast might glance over things that are parts of standards or... idk. It's a good question. Variety of playtesters is good. We'll get an inindation of all the usual suspects of VR reviewing; and I look forward to that, as well.
@@atreidesN I thought about that for a minute. Maybe: -Or one who's not gonna gush about how awesome it is as much as the multitude of Alien fans. -Or she has the best voice 😊 Or... idk.
I am so glad different devs have given VR another try after the huge leap with VR specs, easy of use and price gone down like crazy. Whole damn VR set costs less than many "premium" gaming headsets, I think there is even more expensive keyboards and mouses also. Also the fact that anyone can download, boot and add VR kit to the UE5 totally free, make game and sell it, is simply amazing. It feels like 80s "freedom" of making games in your parents garage just for fun is happening again but with way more wide possibilities. For those who don't understand how easy it is: I literally downloaded UE5, booted it, add the VR kit, put headset on and went to play with ready working small environment with working grab mechanics and ready weapons etc. I literally could throw some paint and "publish" that as a game (tho it would be very pointless game). Oh and all that took about 30 mins. So anyone who have even slight intrest trying to make own VR game, you can do it. You don't even need to understand how UE5 or coding work. There is tons of tutorials and insane amounts of helpful people on the discord and forums or you could even do what I like to do and just ask from ChatGBT how things work in UE5.
It is not that simple. A good game has to be designed for flat screen or VR to be good. Modifications won't make a flat screen game into a good VR game.
I like Beardobenjo, etc. There are and will be other reviewer videos for that. IGN is important for non VR players to see VR games reviewed alongside the best regular flatscreen games of the time. A lot of us VR gamers (maybe you included. Idk) already knew this was gonna be good.
On PSVR2, that's basically a requirement standard for most of their games, no? Am I wrong? I don't have one. I had and still retain a PS4 pro with PSVR1 and the gun VR controller. (I just realized you meant non-Sony haptics.) It's a big release for PSVR2, which is known for haptics, so I think they'll naturally have that on other VR systems.
@@tobiasmyers3505Bhaptics is a whole separate, specific haptics system. He's talking about that. I have the vest, arms and face. Games that support it like Vail and Contractors are next level immersive. Imagine getting sniped in your lower left back and feeling a jolt there. It's really neat.
I use to get motion sickness with PSVR1 . But on PSVR2 I can play all day and now VR games is all I want to play RE4 and RE8 in VR are Masterpieces . Can't wait to play this and the Hitman Trilogy. VR technology is new but it's already really good 👍
Can't wait for this game. It's got good vibes. It will live or die by the AI of the creatures. However, the idea that you're not on the edge of your seat is concerning. Can we please stop making acid blood just green Gusher juice as opposed to the deadly defense mechanism that's its supposed to be. Turning the creatures into bullet sponges with no repercussions really destroys any threat they could deliver. Even in Aliens, the movie that defines gunplay in the franchise, guns are never that great unless you aren't concerned for yourself, your companions, or you local environment. I'd love to see some Red Faction type environmental damage and detrimental fallout for going full Vasquez on them in confined spaces.
But this is a video game and not a simulator of the movie. Thus its role is to provide entertainment. Do you realize that the game would be funny to play if a player would constantly dying from any contact with Xenos?
@ I get that it needs to be fun, obviously. It doesn't have to be simulation, but there's a difference between dying from mere contact, which is what Isolation is, and just wild gunning your way through the world. It's the failing of almost every game other than Isolation, the player is always overpowered. The idea that they just become being generic bad guys when there are so many other avenues for antagonists in an Alien game is frustrating. They way she talks about it makes it sound like your in a ride at Disneyland. I just hope they give options to make the creatures actually formidable without the devs only hand-waving and making them just take more metal to put down. Because every preview I've seen for this game makes them sound like sometimes deadly (but not always) nuciances.
@@virusbebola can't say much about gt but resident evil 4 and 8 are good. Since I have played isolation, that game was nerve wrecking without the Vr... Can't imagine the tension in Vr
Good review..... although I think I heard you say head turning wasn't possible, but that is always possible in VR. Pumped for this game....fingers crossed it runs smoothly and is as good as it looks here!!
Alien in VR finally? This is why noone takes you seriously IGN. You could play Isolation in VR. Now if you're tagline had been 'Aliens' in VR finally, that makes sense. It's the little things, it really is
I guess you could say they meant official Alien VR game. The Mother mod is still a mod. Though there are rumours that A:I will be getting a VR version in '25..
*Some people:* _LOL... Virtual Reality is a joke, it doesn't have any major franchise videogames and that's why it's not worth buying a headset_ ---------- > *Suddenly! A major franchise video game appears in VR* < ------------------- *Some people:* _But, but... Why is it for VR? I think i'm going to cry and throw a tantrum, REEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!_ *In short* --> 🤡🌎
The whole point of Xenomorphs' scariness is that you can't kill them, at least using weapons - you can only escape them. That was the premise of both Alien and Aliens. If you can shoot them like yellow dawgs, it detracts from the vivid fear they should generate.
I'm very excited that we are finally getting some quality stand alone vr titles like alien, batman, and behemoth. I am hesitant as the process hit and exceed 40 though. Not all quest have have been finely finished and I've become accustomed to the very low price points that most games have. Heck I just got Ghostbusters on sale for $4.80, that's insane, but in a wonderful way. So I'll be waiting on all these $40.00 plus games until there's a good sale.
They said in some areas; the more sound you make, the more xenomorphs you might attract. So, I wonder if you can play it like GTA "wanted levels!" Just intentionally draw a horde to you continuously with lots of firepower, etc!
@@Mellman-g9p This is not an Aliens game. This is a game based on Alien IP. I guess you did not play Jag's AvP in 1994/95 to understand that single player is better for horror atmosphere.
From what it looks like, there's a bit of shakiness in the camera when it was being reloaded, so maybe you still do the reload yourself, but it's got an animation added on top to polish it, like how half life alyx does the reloads.
@@benjaminrowley that sucks though because it’s such a big part of the movie. It could have been even cooler if they worked out a way to add it into the mechanics
@@SeekoGT If you think about gameplay mechanics and loops, such physics would be hard to implement to keep the game playable. Not to mention Xenos blood is oxidizing. Thus it loses its acidic properties.
The negative she describes are positives it’s weird. You’re supposed to feel insane and nerve wrecking in VR and it’s supposed to make you emotionally exhausted bout time you take of the headset. ITS AN ALIEN GAME!!!!!
No indicator of platform!!! We need people that know how to review VR games. The platform should be among the very first things posted- rare, but embarrassing miss for IGN.
Should have been like walking dead saints and sinners not anchored to one stale character model but given a proper character design option saints and sinners nailed it with only a few choices. I want Aliens VR but I don’t want an anchored character design.
Guys I have heard an errr in the first 5 seconds she says “As an Alien fan” obviously ign is lying because in alien isolation they just said “FUCK ALIENS 5.9!!!”
I do wish big sites like ign contracted vr games coverage out to the enthusiasts. This person was not the right job to be previewing a vr game of she struggles after 30 mins. We want to know about the game not someone’s vr legs. Likewise the wedding thing was novel the first few games it was in. But all this time later an enthusiast would probably only acknowledge its existence. Not meaning to sound down on the preview or the reviewer. No disrespect intended.
Makes sense, but at the same time, it's a good thing. Some consumers looking at Quest or VR in general might want to see an average Joe testing the waters and having a good time over a hardcore VR enthusiast who already is acclimated and only going to say nice things.
frankly this looks like an odd game, i am excited for it however i am just a little disappointed with how it seems to be leaning more towards *Aliens* than *Alien*, and theres especially a lot of potential out of having them more hard to get rid of cause isolation’s hive level really showed that theres still a lot to be terrified as if you fend off one, theres still going to be another one whos ready to strike at you in any given chance. Regardless the idea of the xenos constantly swarming you sounds like an idea that may make up for it, i still just hope this game will be great as its definitely been one of my most anticipated alien games for a while! Edit: also just like to say that i very much enjoy how zula whos from the comics is being included, i dont think its very common to see something and i am ALLL for it
When the reviewer said something like “you have to turn with the thumb stick instead of your head” I hope that doesn’t mean this is a “couch potatoes” only game, meaning it’s only meant to be played stated or standing still facing one direction.
@ I don’t trust the store listings for play modes until I’ve actually tried the game. Nearly all Quest games list standing and roomscale mode yet most have little glitches like menus and loading screens that pop up in random locations because the developers never tested with natural turning. A few are either completely broken or have areas that are broken if you turn with your feet. It’s frustrating.
@@jioxxvr There is a video on YT showing up a guy from avpgalaxy playing it. He was standing and moving a little bit. But I doubt that they would allow total freedom as it would lead to accidents. That is why prefer joystick turns for in-game body. Not to mention the game is not exclusive to Quest 3 only. Thus it will be played with cabled headsets as well.
@@kordelas2514 most PCVR players use wireless headsets, it’s not just standalone Quest players. To reduce immersion for everyone else just because PSVR2 is tethered makes no sense. It should be developed and tested for seated, standing, and roomscale play. That way it would make the most of all headsets and accommodate everyone’s style of play. As far as accidents go, as long as you have the guardian set up properly you’re safer from accidents with a wireless headset than you are with a tethered one. No cords to trip over. 😁
It says the footage is "work in progress on PC", so they may still add it on the PSVR2 and PCVR. As much as I'd love to see it on quest 3 as well, I know it's not quite there yet. So if anything this might be closer to how the game looks on Q3, maybe with a few post-processing elements and textures scaled back slightly
@@kordelas2514 Agreed, they are good. Though for me personally, that's a hard requirement a game needs to have nowadays. I'll pick it up once it's on sale eventually though.
Did I hear this correctly? Did she just say that there’s no head turning movement and it’s only joystick movement turning? If that’s the case then that’s fucked. Vr is all about head movements
The IGN editors voice is so annoying I had to turn off the video. She has no clue what makes ALIENS great. She probably thinks AVP and Alien Resurrection were some of the all time greats. 😅
Nice but the environment feels too "clean" in comparison vs Alien Isolation... Looking at this video , i feel that something is missing ( perhaps atmospherics ? ).
@@kordelas2514 Right.. But with so many games being labelled as a sub genre of being a Rogue-like/Rogue-lite game, I feel it's kind of a tease to those people (like me who love Rogue-likes/Rogue-lites.
I love the concept! However I think it does look significantly worse than the way older Alien: Isolation (Graphics-wise), at least from my remembering.
Quest 3 walks a very fine line between very close to early xbox One and peak xbox 360. Isolation was 10 years ago, but really only has better lighting from the looks of it. VR gameplay in a 2D RU-vid video is really hard to judge because the amount of details while wearing a VR system are significantly more visible.
@@PortoAlvarezIf you have a high end PC to run this, that will be the absolute best way to go visual wise. As dude said above, you really gotta be in there. A lot of these games look 'OK' until you put the headset on and then they somehow look like one of the best games you've ever played. The immersion of 'being in the game' really dials it up. Just don't expect it to look super clean on the standalone quest, though even that has seen advancements since with the Quest 3 release. Playing through Batman right now it's quite impressive!
