Yes! First published in 1980 as a novella in The Magazine of Fantasy & Science Fiction, because no children's book publisher would touch a story with such an outlandish premise, and which John Lasseter desperately tried to convince Disney to make into a movie in 1983, for which they fired him.

I love this channel! It's so funny in the first half watching an alien trying to understand the movie, then he comes through with an amazing detailed analysis and makes me see movies in a different way, even if I'm an earthling. Great channel, keep it up! :)

This movie was the inspiration for the Steely Dan song "Through With Buzz", off their 1974 studio album Pretzel Logic. Donald Fagen and Walter Becker were so impressed, and related to Woody so much during the events of the movie (the strained relationship between Woody and Buzz Lightyear certainly resembles the frustrations the Dan felt towards the contemporary pop artists of their time, especially in the mid 90s) that they developed a method of travelling backwards in time to before their breakup and inserting this song into one of their prior albums. Before this, Pretzel Logic had exactly 10 songs, just like their debut album, "Can't Buy a Thrill" (1972) and the album directly succeeding "Pretzel Logic", "Katy Lied" (1975). However, their ability to travel back in time was quite limited, hence the short length of the song, clocking in at just over 90 seconds. Anything longer than that definitely could not have made the jump back to 1974. In the song, one of the lyrics ("Maybe he's a fairy") could be seen as a mocking reference to Buzz Lightyear's wings and his gloating ability to "fly", when he was indeed, simply falling with style.
