Yup, AVP and D&D: Shadow Over Mystara were some of the finest beat em ups ever made. D&D gets my personal vote for being the better game for its multiple classes, 4 player gameplay, branching paths and economy system and for being a huge game that can take some two hours to finish. But AVP comes a close second.
Sony Vita for the win: AvP, Punisher, Cadillacs and Dinosaurs, Captain Commando, D'n'D, etc, etc in a jail broken official product that fits in you pocket.
I'd lose my mind with joy if Capcom released an Alien vs Predator set in the Bladerunner Earth (since Ridley Scott says they all inhabit the same universe). Yeeeaaaaaaaa.....
Another quick point; the Alien vs Predator concept was explored first in comic books. Dark Horse produced the first Alien vs Predator story in 1989, and had a whole load of series during the early 90s, followed by novels written by Steve Perry which came out about the same time as Capcom's game.
The mech-suit is from the final battle in Alien 2: Top Hat did not comment the tank ride between these stages is usage in the Alien 2 movie. He didn’t see Alien 2.
Glad to see this awesome game covered. I had a feeling that Lynn Kurosawa had something to do with Ibuki. Her face is an amalgamation of Alpha chun li and Ibuki. Maybe also because it was by some of the same artists.
That mech suit is a power loader from the alien films! The marines use it to store ammo boxes, cargo etc Fantastic game...this and punisher are my go to best em ups away from the streets of rage series
Also, there is an Easter Egg in this game that ties Schaffer’s robotic upgrade to the Terminator. Look up “Predator vs Terminator fan theory.” It went viral a few times.
I loved this game as a kid. Me and some friends were talking about how hard it was to find one of these games out in the wild until a few months ago a new barcade opened up here and one of the games they have is AvP! Needless to say I spend loads of time there now.
I recently bought the pandora saga console, and this plus about 10 thousand other games are on it. Best £90 I ever spent. I've played this game a few times now, and it's fantastic.
Man this was a great game. Little protip: you can top off Pulse Rifle or Smart Gun mags by picking up other guns. At that point it becomes a shooter, though.
Why do people not take 1 second to check the comments section? Someone already mentioned the Jesse Ventura mistake and Mr. Top Hat responded to it admitting his mistake. And yet there are like 10 more comments made after that pointing out the same mistake.
They don't bother to read the comments before doing it. Granted RU-vid made it harder to do that a long time ago, but considering that I saw like 3 people at the top of the comments say that it should be pretty easy to see that.
@@junkshun626 1st amendment is really meant to protect the people from the government. Despite what people seem to think, it doesn't really give you the right to say what you want when which is why Mr. Top Hat could pull the ban hammer on you if you say something he doesn't like. Basically, the government can't censor you much but Top Hat or even RU-vid can.
@@CONSOLETRUTH2 hahaha correct, in all technicalities, although I tend to run my channel rather democratically, I have absolute authoritarian power over what can and cannot be seen in this comment section!
Due to all the weirdos out there who seem inexplicably annoyed that a foreigner got the name of the state wrong that Jesse governed, this ladies and gentlemen is the prime example of the Mandela effect coming into play. This is a fact I felt I always knew, so never felt the need to check a source, particularly when you take into account it has nothing to do with gaming anyway and it was just free flowing additional trivia. I would like to kindly ask those who are expressing anger to please get a grip - I acknowledged I was wrong within a few minutes of the upload, so not much else I can do! So please kindly shut up!
I live in MN and some of my friends helped Ventura's campaign. All I did was chuckle when you got it wrong as I wouldn't be surprised if select Minnesota citizens think he was the governor of Texas as well. It's alright as your comments section fixes it. I was just personally Mandela effected this week too with the spelling of "guardian". I've been spelling it "gaurdian" for decades! Thanks for the great video.
this game is my #1 beatem up rerelease request. i would only use the predators but ive always appreciated the selectable marines as well. excellent video, my good sir.
This game was like experiencing street fighter II the first time again. There were special moves that came out but didn't know how to pull them off and there were no FAQs out. It was like a decade later to learn how to do the orange predator Blanka ball. Linn was the best with down stab, air throw, and bounce off side of screen you would try to stay in the air for the whole stage
Found you because of your streets of rage videos.... After watching and loving those this was the first game I thought of to search for on your channel. It is by far the best beat'Em'up ever created. Period. Man I miss 90s arcades in the local malls....
Amazing Video as always. Just one thing I caught. Jesse Ventura was the Govenor of Minnesota not Texas. Hey but we all slip up from time to time. Keep up the great videos
This game is absolutely fantastic. Objectively hits all the right notes. 4 characters, each unique, insane high combos. Good variation of levels, and fantastic bitmap design that looks amazing still today. Up there with shadow over mysteria as capcoms perfection in side scrolling fighters. Kurosawa combos are incredible and make make for a massive count.
FYI, Jesse Ventura was the governor of Minnesota not Texas. Besides that, great coverage of a game that’s should be playable on all consoles now. Long over due.
This game was one of several ones which were internally supported by the emulator developped for the Tectoy's Zeebo console. The emulator was used to 're-release' several titles on the console. But ultimately, this title was not officially released on the console (Zeebo).
Also for those who wasn't aware, if you are a fan of the Street Fighter Alpha series, in Alpha 2 on Ken's stage. Lt.Kurosawa has a background cameo appearance in the pool along with Felecia from Darkstalkers and other characters.
Just played the game for the first time today. It was fantastic! I'm hooked. More or less had stopped playing arcade machines by the mid 90s so I obviously just missed this one. And if it wasn't for getting the pandora saga console I would never have known about it.
Didn't know Lynn Kurosawa had a few more appearances after this game--or that she would be whom Ibuki from SF 3 would be based from. Was nice that the toy company in 2017 would do figures for this game though.
Both the video wanted and needed. Last time I played this was in Japan 2017. As magical then as it was when I first played it at the Games Room in the Elephant and Castle.
A 16x9 remake with ability to play with 4 players local/online would be my holy grail. Konami did something similar with the X-Men beat'em up years ago. Rights issues shouldn't be too complicated. Disney owns the ip, and work together with the Marvel vs Capcom games. Neca toys and Prodos Games recently had licensing. And Capcom released it on their arcade stick console last year.
You completely failed to mention that players also have access to special attack moves using joystick and button combinations similar to a fighting game. It was one of the features that helped elevate AvP above its contemporaries. As good as this game was, it comes in second when compared to the second Capcom arcade beat ‘em up based on Dungeons & Dragons. D&D Shadow Over Mystara has more characters, branching pathways, the ability to equip different main weapons, secondary consumable weapons, secret areas, more character specific special attacks, and 4 player co-op. It really is the pinnacle of the 90’s arcade beat ‘me up.
One of the best composed and designed by BENGUS / CMRK. It got ported to the Capcom stick that was over $300 and was only 2 player which was blasphemy on a home port. One of the most beautiful and memorable games. It’s funny to see a Yautja in dystopian LA grab an enormous sized hot dog or a whole chicken.
I'm just waiting for the day you're going to talk about Battle Circuit, so obscure, and so good, never released on any console as far as I know, it should be included in those never ending Capcom Collections... I'm loving all your past videos!!
To the Top Hat Gaming Man, I enjoyed the video, but with all due respect, there is one detail that you left out about this game. Capcom’s Alien vs. Predator, technically, did come out for gamers to enjoy at home, via the Capcom Home Arcade plug-&-play stick, as it is one of 16 games built into the product. Just some info share.
"That is a lot of governance" 🤣 This is my favorite arcade beat em up by miles! It sucks that the only way to get an official licensed copy of it in lieu of an actual cabinet is through that awful Capcom Arcade stick thing, or through a supergun I guess.
This game was pure bliss from start to finish. One of my GamePro issues at the time gave this perfect ratings across all categories. My only complaints are a) this game never got a sequel and b) it was never ported to home consoles. Learning earlier plans to port this game to 32x is a major frustration for me as I'm one of the few fools who owned one of these.
This is the one time you need to remove the question mark from the title. lol Hands down Capcom's best side-scrolling beat 'em up. Thanks for making this one!
Thanks a lot for documenting one of my favourite arcade games.👍 I spent way too much money into this, back in the day... 😅 Just a few quick notes : While no home port was ever released, Koch Media’s officially licensed Capcom Home Arcade console/arcade stick combo does include the original game. A surprise, to be sure, but a welcome one. 🥰 NECA actually holds the Aliens and Predator licenses for just about anything in the 7’’ scale. Movies, comics, video games, even the old zany Kenner designs. Check out their Alien Queen and Concrete Jungle Predator figures in particular, they’re superb.
This game also inspired Denjin Makai 2 and Devil May Cry. It was revolutionary when it came out for its combo mechanics. There are plenty of videos showcasing all the incredible things you can do with Linn and the predators.
That's not true Denjinmakai 2 just improved on what the first game was, which it predates Alien vs Predator. Capcom fans always want to give every credit to Capcom
@@h.m.5724 No it's true. The new moves some characters have are frame by frame moves you can see in AvP, such as Kurokishi new pogo saber attack into aerial throw. It was also stated by Winkysoft at the time, that they played Alien Vs Predator a lot during DM2's development.
Aliens vs. Predator is a cool arcade game I have the Super Nintendo version which it doesn't compare to the arcade version but still both versions was a blast to play.
Also Correction: Linn does not appear in Namco X Capcom. Rather the character Sylphie from Forgotten Worlds has a combo where she dresses up like Linn and uses her Kokisho attack.
love your stuff top hat i do question if you've watched the alien movies though, the "little aliens" are referred to as face huggers and the fight in the mech suit is from Aliens
I saw this game as a arcade cabinet in the background of one of Game Attack's videos back in 2017 or 18 i believe. When i played this game I was stoked. And i immediately fell in love with Lynn Kurosawa (Of course knowing me XD). This game also explained a lot on why i kept seeing this woman in SFA2 and SF3 a lot and when i play as Sylphie based on her in Namco X Capcom in a fighting game called MUGEN it also explains why she was dressed like Lynn back when i use to ask myself these questions years before i played AVP. If you wanna look into another all original beat em up game, I highly suggest Dynamite Dux by SEGA. The main protagonist heavily influenced on of Sega's mos beloved character from Sonic the Fighters, Bean the Dynamite.
First time I played this was back in 2003, a friend of mine had a MAME CD for PC with games on it and I stumbled across this amazing game for the first time when I was 13 yrs old. It's sad that due to licensing issues it didn't make it to the Capcom Beat Em Up Bundle cause it feels "Incomplete"...
This is one of my favorite Beat em up brawler arcade and Capcom should make another classics compilation collection along with other Capcom arcade beat em up brawler and home console beat em up brawler games like Final Fight 2 and Final Fight 3 and your next video you should do the Punisher Arcade, Warriors Of Fate, and Armor Warriors.
