Having only recently started this channel, I am experimented a little with the format. I’ve edited this video down with an aim to condense the content and improve the overall flow of the video. I’ve also swapped voiceover with text and background music, which I know won’t appeal to all, but I’m interested to see how this video performs in comparison to the others. Any constructive comments are welcome. I hope you enjoy!

I liked the music, it fit the theme completely but I like both the voice and the text formats. This one was beautiful with the music and text and flowed wonderfully with the resin :)

The beginning or start with the pink and pink tentacles reminds you of the ghost busters movie with the river of pink slime.

Looks amazing Barns! Personally I don't trust anyone who isn't making alien tentacles quite frankly, it should be part of the school curriculum. Loving the tunes at the end there Cerulean Ascent!

I love your art, there's so much movement and wonder in every piece. The alien yet familiar worlds you create really scratch some itch in my brain I didn't know I had. I enjoy watching your process and can't wait for the next video. Keep making fantastic art.

I just found your channel a few days ago and watched a few of your videos. I’ve enjoyed seeing your process. It’s really different than a lot epoxy work. I like your new video format too. This project turned out wonderful! It has a mysterious feel and keeps the viewer mesmerized. Great job!

That is so beautiful! I do have to say that I had a panic attack when you first mixed the color into the resin though...I couldn't stop thinking about bubbles lolol

If you use Epoxy resin I can understand your concern, but for polyester resin bubbles aren't really much of an issue. Don't get me wrong though.....it has it's other challenges! Thank you very much for watching.

I actually screamed at the end, lol! Your creativity is Phenomenal, to say the least. Loving that background music!! How do you come up with these designs? Thank you so much!! I too was very pleased with how the final piece turned out, the light base really showed it off well. My designs all come from an initial idea that will pop into my head, and then I develop it so that it will work as a final piece (composition etc). The main hurdle is figuring out HOW I'm going to make it! So glad you're enjoying the channel.

@barnabyhowesculpture

Thank you very much! As long as you seal the mould by pouring resin down the edges the foil method works really well.

Oh wow Barnaby! This is so unique and stunning, a truly amazing piece of art, I am blown away! How long do the layers of resin take to cure please?
@barnabyhowesculpture
@barnabyhowesculpture Год назад
Hi, glad you liked it! So for the thin layers I use a high proportion of hardener (catalyst) and these harden in 30-60mins. For the thicker pours I use relatively less hardener and these can take 10-24 hours to harden. However polyester resin will continue to harden for up to 7 or more days until it is as hard as glass. I tend to leave 24 hours between every pour (even small thin layers), so one piece may take 2 weeks to complete. I'm normally making about three pieces at the same time.

@@barnabyhowesculpture Thank you so much for your reply. Polyester resin in much different to epoxy, if I added more hardener to epoxy it would fail. If I had a good large space with a lot of fresh air I would be sorely tempted to try it. It seems polyester resin is a lot more versatile than epoxy... one day :) You must have constant ideas in your mind to have two or three projects on the go at once. Isn't a creative mind such a blessing :)

Barnaby, this is so beautiful. It feels like I’m in a movie with the visuals and music at the end! I’d watch the heck out of any movie with this as a setting! I personally prefer a voice over as I’m almost always doing something while watching videos. But this is a very relaxing, chilled vibe. Nice start to my Sunday! Well, I had my first go at coating the inside of a mould yesterday. I’ll find out today how it went. Used some coloured tiny, and I mean, tiny balls that I though I wouldn’t otherwise use, spilled the lot everywhere after shaking them in the sphere, and decided I wished I’d saved them! Never mind, we live and learn! Can I please just ask, should I have filled it as soon as it was poured (I figured not as the balls could work loose), at gel state or was it right to leave it to fully cure? Didn’t have a lot of choice really as I ran out of resin, my old, blind hand deaf cat spilled her food, I was thoroughly exhausted and had other work to get on with! I’ll fill it today and see how we get on tomorrow! Thanks again for such fabulous videos!

Hi Kelly, really glad you liked the video! And pleased to hear you're giving the sphere coating technique a try. In answer to your question if I understand it correctly, once you've poured resin into the mould and swilled it around to fully coat it, you then pour out the excess. I would leave it upside over a cup or something for about 1-2 minutes max to let any further excess resin drip out. Then pour in whatever you're using to coat the sphere (tiny balls) in your instance (pour in more than you think you'll need). I then cover the opening with aluminium foil which I hold down with a thumb or the palm of my hand depending on how large the opening in the mould is and shake. Then pour out any excess unstuck balls and leave it to harden over night, then fill the sphere with clear resin the next day and that should be it. I would assume you'd then want to cast that in a larger, probably square mould. I never got these things to work perfectly the first time, so just give it another go if you hit any problems, and avoid what you got wrong before. Anyway I hope that helps a little, and good luck with it!

@@barnabyhowesculpture that’s fabulous help, thank you so much! I’m demoulding today as yesterday was spent photographing items! I’m so excited to see if it worked. I will keep trying until I succeed, that’s for sure. So good to see such a helpful resin artist and new you tube demos. There’s some great people out there, but innovators like yourself are moving the art forward.
