In the extended version they explain that Ripley had a daughter on Earth that died while she was floating in space for 57 years. That better explains her instant attachment to Newt.

Also, the extended version of the first movie has Ripley finding some of her crew cocooned to the wall (though without a queen that doesn't make much sense). The scene's not in the regular version so Ripley finding the cocooning familiar in the 2nd movie is a bit of a plot hole.
@LegendaryCatalyst
@LegendaryCatalyst 3 года назад
@@zarquondam I don't think it doesn't make sense in the first film. Xenomorphs live in a hive like colonizing insects. If you took a single drone ant away from it's hive, it would probably still perform functions related to the hive on pure instinct. Now them cutting the scene in the theatrical Alien and having a scene in Aliens where the cocooning is familiar is unexplained, and somewhat of a plot hole but not that big of one to me.
@windowsVD
@windowsVD 3 года назад
@@zarquondam Xenomorphs can still procreate without a queen. The extended scene in the first film was showing Brett being morphed into an egg. This also fits in with Alien Isolation as we see multiple Xenomorphs towards the end but no queen.

I don't think he should have died just then. He was a perfect candidate for impregnating. He couldn't even put up much of a fight. He should have ended up on a wall with a face hugger. It could have been a cool scene if Burke and Newt were stuck on a wall near each other. A face hugger could have hatched and attached to Burke just before Ripley finds them. Agreed, it gives a lot more context, especially to the dynamic between Ripley and Newt. Some people say the sentry gun scenes are pointless, but I think they add more tension, and give more context as to why the aliens were crawling through the ceiling, they had to find a different way in as they had retreated after not being able to pass the sentries, and they didn’t know the guns were down to 10 rounds (there’s a little ‘Easter egg’ in the game Colonial Marines where you find the sentries in the corridor and the ammo counter reads 10).

Interesting fact. Filming the scene where Newt is in the water took all day. For Newt, it was mostly a chance to goof around. "The first assistant director had actually had someone stay there overnight, to make sure the water stayed warm," she said. "But it was actually too warm for me, so I would sit up on bars on the side, and the alien and I would stay up there, kicking our feet in the water". Pity there are no pictures of that. Carrie Henn who played Newt gave up acting and became a School Teacher.

Personally, I think Alien 3 is well worth a watch. Once again, a different type of film to some extent - not AS good, by any stretch, but much better than a lot of folks give it credit for and an altogether different character dynamic because.....well, you'll see. I do, however, agree that Alien: Resurrection is a pretty dismal affair. And I stopped watching the series at that point so I can't speak to the films that came out after that.

Lance Henrikson, ("Bishop") appeared in a low budget Louisville based film around 2010. My friend Debbie Hess was a volunteer usher at Clifton Center where the premiere happened: she did not have a ticket to the main event, but Lance Henrikson immediately pulled rank and got Debbie a front row seat near him. Afterwards, the only serviceable toilet at the Clifton Center (a converted old Catholic elementary school) stopped working. Lance Henrikson found out about it, marched up to the bathroom and fixed the f*cking toilet at his own premiere. You can just about imagine that he's welcome back in Louisville any old time he would like.

The reason most of the marines do not listen to Ripley ,to begin with, is because , to them, she is an outsider. While most of them have been together as a unit for years and as someone who has grown up around military people and heard stories from family members , I've been told this happens in real life today. In the novelization of this movie it was explained that these Colonial Marines are very experienced at encounters with alien species. Hence Hudson asking if they were on “a bug hunt”. However, they have never encountered an alien species as resistant as these. So for most of the movie these jarheads are freaking shook.
