Guys, im planning on buying a Alienware 15 r3. I looked at Dells website and its $1600 but on Amazon its $1300 (the config i want). Should I get it from amazon? I dont want the old one with the heat problem.

Finally! Thank you Dav, I've been waiting for the AW17 review since you made the 13&15' units 6 months ago. It was helpful that you addressed the TN panel over IPS. It was my biggest dilemma about getting this laptop, whether to choose QHD over UHD or TN over IPS or 120Hz w/ GSync vs 60Hz also 400nits vs 300nits though this isn't a big difference as they are mostly used indoors. It would have been awesome if you have gone over these features too for us specsheet nerds. Because choosing the screen is still holding me back, there's no good video showing the difference between the two panels. Great work with video Dav! I kinda wished it wouldn't end so quick..

Hey Dave! I'm thinking about buying a laptop, and I'm looking around the alienware family. I'm between the gtx 1060 models of the 15 and the 17 inch model. Is the bigger screen of the 17 worth the thicker body, and the lesser battery life of it? Or do you think the 15 inch is better package for the gtx 1060 configuration? I'll probably buy it on eBay from Europe, to save some money.

Here are some facts about Alienware Laptops 1. Power brick, it is always heavy (has been for past 5 years!) 2. Weight - they're heavy ass laptops, don't expect to run around with it in your backpack, you'll get serious back pains. 3. Design - not for everyone but the lighting effects are super cool 4. Price - Alienware is spendy, but will last a very long time 5. Specs - they have solid specs which usually beat the competition in performance. Look at this way, do you want a Ferrari or a Toyota Camry?!

Why can't Alienware ditch the bloody gaming look

It would be better if it had 1.Desktop i7-7700k 2.GTX 1080 SLI 3.Optical Drive(which can be converted to harddrive bay if it is not needed) 4.4 RAM slots 5.2 Harddrives 6.2 M.2 Slots. 7.Mechanical keyboard with full size arrow keys and numpad 8.Glass trackpad with no buttons. 9.Smart Card reader. 10.Fingerprint reader and face and Iris scanner.

That laptop animation on the end is spot on. YOu're getting good!

Hello, my alienware 17 R4 has a graphics card problem. At present, the machine can not identify the graphics card GTX1080, and only show integrated graphics. Computer under normal circumstances is the use of built-in graphics, but FN + F7 switch graphics, computer screen can not be displayed properly. Open the adapter graphics card GTX1080 in front of the yellow exclamation mark and display the code 43. The driver can not be downloaded and installed. Quick question: You mention in description to get the 120Hz model if you are a hard core gamer. Is that 120Hz the screen frequency only or does the graphics adapter control that? E.g. I'm considering getting one of the R6 models for work, and plugging in a 42" monitor/screen. Will a GTX 1060 drive a screen that large without any noticeable tearing? Or would I need to get the 1070 to run at 120Hz?

Question. Why is it that some 17 R4 models come with the "Glass covered" Alienware lettering and some are just like 15 r3, just written in between plastic. Thx
