I freaking love her. She's something special. Unmistakable voice. Talented lady. And her band, Union Station is also. For something more upbeat check out Oh Atlanta.
Alison has a perfect voice, love listening to her. Check out some of her duets with Robert Plant. Oh and she plays the violin in this and many other songs.
The voice of an angel! I love her cover of Keith Whitley’s when you say nothing at all, plus please read the letter that she did with Robert Plant. She’s still on my bucket list to see live.
Alison Krause and Union Station did a good mellower version of this song IMHO. Initially a pop song recorded at first by the Foundations, which is great as well Thanks Bizmatic!
Fun fact: Whenever you hear a violin (fiddle, in the bluegrass world) in Alison’s music, it’s usually her playing it. Also, please put her song “Forget About It” on your list of songs to react to.
One of the most beautiful voices in music the album new favorites the whole album was awesome every song there's also a broadcast on the PBS network of them playing live I believe in Atlanta and they are absolutely some of the greatest musicians I've ever watched so pure so clean every note if you get a chance check that out great reaction is always brother I enjoy your show and your reaction and your comments keep spreading the music around❤
Biz, you have entered a new world. AK has more Grammys than any living artist except Beyoncè. “I’d Rather Be In the Palm of Your Hand”. Check it out. Then, think about Eva Cassidy, “Autumn Leaves” or “Over the Rainbow”. Incredible music from a different place.
Alison is a very good violinist and also a great vocalist. She has top rated musicians playing with her. She has also won more grammys than most artists. She has been around a long time. There's a history behind bluegrass. It comes from the type of grass called Kentucky bluegrass and the founder, Bill Monroe, who was from Kentucky. Basically, bluegrass music is like country music except bluegrass musicians were at the top of their game. If I had to make a comparison, it would be like comparing jazz to blues. One doesn't need to be a great musician to play the blues, but jazz men and women were generally expert musicians. That said, modern country music really does have some great musicians but that wasn't generaly true of the country music genre back in the day. But bluegrass music was founded by great musicians, starting with Bill Monroe and his bluegrass boys, which included Lester Flatt and Earl Scruggs, the latter being one of the greatest banjo players who ever lived.
One of my favorite artists. I know you reacted to her and Robert plant but check out more of her original band, Union Station. Man of Constant Sorrow is a must listen. Also see if you can catch some live action, her band is filled with a who is who of bluegrass and worth noting she plays the fiddle. Bluegrass is pretty og. One thing to know about bluegrass is they usually lack drums. The percussion comes from natural thwack of the upright bass and the choppiness (staccato) sound of a banjo and/ mandolin. A classic bluegrass example is Doc Watson’s Shady Grove. A modern fun and fine example is Billy String’s Dust in a Baggie.
One more thing, the other guy who sings in Alison Krause band, Dan Tyminski is phenomenal in his own right. He was the vocalist in Avicci’s Hey Brother. He did a rendition bluegrass version of it, I really think it is worth checking out.
