No vibrato to hide a missed note, just a perfect pitch held. She is absolutely the best backing or duet vocalist ever. Listen to Shania Twain and then that live session she did with Alison, it is so much better. That's why she has 27 Grammys; everyone is many times better with her singing beside them.

Robert Plant (lead singer of Led Zepplin) said he was driving his car one night in England and heard an Angel's voice singing on the radio and had to pull his car over. He knew he had to sing with her. Of course it was Allison Krauss, and they did a grammy winning album together.

Jay, the slide guitar you commented on is called the dobro and the player is Jerry Douglas who is one of the world's best dobro players. By the way, Allison actually got her start singing with Union Station, not the other way around. Union Station is one of those bands where ever single member actually has a solo career in addition to recording and touring with Union Station. They've been together for a long time now and hopefully will continue for many years.

The fellow playing the guitar is Dan Tyminski, who sang lead on Man of Constant Sorrow from O Brother Where Art Thou, also sings lead on lots of Union Station songs . Great singer and player and has a few solo albums.

To be a tad pedantic, Jerry is playing a resonator guitar. Dobro is a brand name and he actually plays a Beard resonator guitar. Regardless, the man is a beast on that thing.

I always felt this was kind of a response to "Traveling Man" by Ricky Nelson, which describes a man who has a girl in every port, and never sticks around anywhere. The "lucky" is said ironically, "you think you're lucky doing this, but in the end, you'll have nothing."

Alison’s band, Union Station, are fantastic. The amazing Jerry Douglas was playing the Dobro (resonator guitar). The guitar player with the beard, Dan Tyminski, is the one who sings Man of Constant Sorrow in the version of the song used in the movie O’ Brother, Where Art Thou. I recommend checking him out singing that song.

The guitar played flat like a steel guitar is called a dobro. Jerry Douglas played it, and he's one of the best in the business. Alison plays fiddle for the band. She's still in Union Station. I love their song "Every Time You Say Goodbye".

She has a duet with Brad Paisley that is absolutely heartbreaking you guys need to check out. The song is Whiskey Lullaby. Speaking of Brad Paisley, I don’t recall you guys ever reacting to him yet. He’s a great, somewhat comical country singer with such a smooth voice. A song of his you guys would absolutely LOVE is “Letter To Me” Trust me on this one… such a cool message ❤

I saw an interview with the songwriter who said it was written as "I'm the Lucky One," but Alison thought that was too cheerful for ACUS and that it played better in second person. 😄

I first heard Alison when I was living with an ex. I remember we would sit with the lights off, by candle light and listen to this whole album and just enjoy each other's company. She has one of the most unique and beautiful voices in music. Also the lead male singer of Union Station (Dan Tyminski) is the voice singing “Man of Constant Sorrow” from the film, “O Brother, Where Art Thou?” You should really check out there cover of “I’m Just a Ghost in this House”, she said when she first heard it that she thought it was the saddest song she had ever heard and knew they had to record it. I think it’s the best and most beautiful song they’ve ever done.

Finally got back to Allison! This was an era filled with great female artists across many genres and Allison was definitely one of my favorites. Allison and Union Station are considered bluegrass, and part of ushering in a more modern bluegrass. Some is fast paced and fun but much is gentle, easy and just beautiful. There is a lot more Allison to react to. There are other really good modern bluegrass groups, Nickel Creek, I’m with her, Watchouse, Punch Brothers, The Wailen Jennys.... A whole world of amazing music that just hasn’t gotten much attention. Step up to the plate RSR!

I want to concur with others who've commented that The Lucky One isn't completely happy and is said somewhat ironically and even sarcastically: two hints in the lyrics are "always having fun, jack of all trades, master of none", implying someone who won't commit to something, and later, "give you a song and a one-night stand, and you'll be looking at a happy man", implying someone who can't or won't commit to anyone.

Every song from her/them is amazing. New Favorite, Paper Airplane, Every Time You Say Goodbye, Forget About It, If I Didn't Know Any Better, and Now That I've Found You are some of my favorites. A couple beautiful covers they have are When You Say Nothing At All and Ghost In This House. Some duets/collabs are Whiskey Lullaby, How's The World Treating You, Gone Gone Gone. As others have said, Union Station performed Man of Constant Sorrow For the movie O, Brother, Where Art Thou?

Love this song. Alison Krauss is so easy to listen to to. The dobro player - Jerry Douglas - he is the best of the best. He plays with Mumford and Son on a cover of the Boxer - it's outstanding.

Her musical partner in Union Station, Dan Tyminski, also went solo and was the singer that sang "A Man of Constant Sorrow" in Brother where out thou movie for George Clooney and in the Sound Track. He also did some work with Daf Punk. I love his one albume and there is a really good Bluegrass song by him called, "Carry me Across the Mountain"

Robert Plant & Alison has recorded 2 albums. One of my favorites songs is Alison’s idea of turning “Black Dog” into a bluegrass song. Also, important to know…Union Station is the band of the soundtrack to “Old Brother Where Are Thou”

Watching this reaction, it kinda reflects my thoughts about music and not getting tied down to just one kind. You're wearing shirts from Metallica and Kiss and listening to Alison Krauss & Union Station. I love her voice and grew up listening to all different kinds of music from all genres and all eras but so many others I grew up with would never even considering listening to Alison Krauss just because she's considered bluegrass/country.. and to me, that's just sad. While I may gravitate to certain music a little (or a lot) more than others, I like to think I have a pretty open and eclectic taste so I really appreciate your channel and the fact that you are open to different artists and genres. Thank you for doing what you do.
