Originally recorded by Keith Whitley in 1988 it was a #1 Country hit for him. Recorded by Alison Krauss in 1995. It was her first top 10 single also as a country song. Was included in the movie "Notting Hill" in 1999 sung by Ronan Keating. The Keating version was #1 in the UK Ireland and New Zealand. Just a really good song written by Paul Overstreet and Don Schiltz. Alison Krauss and her band Union Station originally included the song on a tribute album To Keith Whitely who died in 1989.
She started as a straight up bluegrass artist which is where many of the Grammy’s came from. Her band members, Union Station, are known as some of the top players in the Nashville music scene
Wanted to say the same thing, but I KNEW that someone had to have beat me to the punch. Before you watch it, you should know a few things. Based on comments from other reaction videos to the song, it should come with a warning label about making you cry like a baby. Possibly before they even start singing. Also, make sure you watch the music video, not just the audio. Whiskey Lullaby should be required of every reaction channel. And even if you swear to never listen to it again, everyone should listen to it at least once.
Alison Krauss is amazing. She is the standard that all artists male or female need to achieve and aspire to be. She is honest in her lyrics and true to who she is We don't see a lot of that today
I'm a huge Slayer fan (odd for me to be here you say?) and I love having my face melted off by them. Alison Krauss is hands down my favorite singer though. Her voice melts my soul. She has such a perfect voice for everything that she sings. I've seen her having the voice of an angel, and that's completely true. No grit, rarely an effect, just pure perfection. The band members are also each world class musicians on each of their instruments. Each one of them has won awards for their playing in their solo careers. Each member of this band is a living legend in their own right. Please do more from her as she has decades of great music to choose from.
Alison started off as a bluegrass singer and musician as a teen. Thats where a good portion of her Grammys came from. One of her best loved songs was a duet with Brad Paisley called Whiskey Lullaby. I'll also recommend another artist worth a look or listen who has a distinct but amazing voice and that would be Linda Ronstadt. When Will I Be Loved, Its So Easy, blue Bayou and desperado are some of my favorites from her.
@matthewdrake4385 Alison has a total of 27 grammys spanning across 5 genres of music. She has 13 grammys in the genre of country music. She has 6 grammys in the genre of bluegrass music. She has 2 grammys in the genre of folk music. She has 2 grammys in the genre of pop music. She has 2 album of the year grammys. She has 1 grammy in the genre of southern gospel. She has 1 grammy for record of the year.
Great reaction! Any duet with her is simply amazing: “Whiskey Lullaby” with Brad Paisley and “The Boxer” with Shawn Colvin at the Kennedy Center Honors as a tribute to Paul Simon are the first two that come to mind.
Here's a really beautiful live performance of "Ghost in This House": ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-dWRGZaHb8xE.html A couple bonus live performances from her that I particularly like: "Allison Krauss & Jerry Douglas - Carolina In My Mind [HD]" - ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-DqDulYRi1dM.html "Alison Krauss Vince Gill Tryin' to get over you" - ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-y6uXmjquWkA.html
They made two albums and there are plenty of videos of them performing songs from those albums and Led Zeppelin songs. Fabulous stuff. She has a lot of versatility. She can sing like an angel or belt it out. Great fiddle player too. She's just incredible.@@barsandbarbells2022
Alison Krauss is simply amazing. She, along with Union Station, came to our hometown in CA nearly every year so we were blessed to experience their talent several times. As incredible as her voice is, her skill on the fiddle is beyond belief. It is a shame more reactors do not check out her vast catalog.
If you’re familiar with the movie Oh Brother Where Art Thou, Alison was the singer in the beautiful song “Going Down to the River to Pray”. She is singing softly here, but she also has a very powerful voice when need be. Her collaborations with Robert Plant brings that more forward. A lovely duet to react to would be Please Read the Letter That I Wrote….official video. Written by Plant.
Alison could sing the phonebook and it would sound amazing. Yes this is a great version, but Keith Whitley's version brings tears to my eyes. I saw him perform in March of 1988 in Columbus, Ohio about a year before he passed. He was opening up for Hank Williams Jr and I had no idea who Keith was. Needless to say I left that night knowing full well who he was.
She has a voice of an Angel! She has done a few albums, with none other then Robert Plant of Led Zeppelin. Great records! 😎❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️ She is a beautiful as her voice!
It is her band that did 'Man of Constant Sorrow' , From the 'Oh Brother Where Art Thou ' Movie...She was from a Bluegrass family. (Dan Kaminsky and Union Station)
Nice Reaction Guy's... Alison has such a soothing voice & The music always sounds really good too. A few more great tune's by her & Union Station that you might enjoy are... Moments Like This, The Lucky One & Now That I Found You.. Thanks again, Cheers !
Great Reaction BARS & BARBELLS! I was casual listener of Alison Krauss but when she and Robert Plant did a collaboration that was a very pleasant surprise! My favorite Music Video of theirs is ‘Going Gone Gone’ It’s like a mashup of Led Zeppelin and Blue Grass! Very upbeat and cool! Hope you can react to ‘Gone Gone Gone’ really something to behold!🎸🙏🏻
My son worked as a roadie for a while and he worked one of her shows...he told me: Mom when see sang it completely FILLED the auditorium...he said it's one of the most powerful voices he's ever heard... I would tend to agree!
Great singer! She's done great duet work with the likes of Robert plant and others ! One she sang with I definitely recommend Sarah jarosz, run away is a great jumping in point! Although Allison isn't on that song....
Great reaction Sam and Phil! I enjoyed hearing my favorite youtube reactors listening to my favorite female vocalist. Lots of people describe her voice as angelic. I saw her live 6 or 7 years ago and will agree with that statement. She originally gained notoriety as a fiddle player before becoming a lead singer. She performed this song with the band Union Station and was with them many years. Several of those Grammy awards came when she and Robert Plant made an album together called Raising Sand back around 2007. They did a 2nd album two or three years ago.
I really love this song, so beautiful!❤ I’m trying to remember, what’s this a crossover onto the pop stations? Why am I thinking it was, I can’t remember? I mean her cover. Anyone? Glad you reacted to this one, a great memory of an awesome song!👍👍
great reaction phil and sam... alison krauss and union station are superb. she has also done some excellent duets with robert plant. the perfect love song? it was one of my favorites until i heard haley reinhart sing "can't help falling in love" which has since taken top spot. the soft breathiness, the emotional vibrato and the very unique cursive like way she rolls notes from high to low is stunning. it is even frequently described as "what love sounds like" and now has hit double platinum with over 425 million views on spotify. make sure you react to the original release titled "Extra | Can’t Help Falling in Love with Haley Reinhart" and posted by mike ronkoske 😎
Every time I hear this song I'm reminded of a song with a very similar message, "More Than Words" by Extreme. That would be another great song to react to.
Many people know the song from the Rom/Com movie “Notting Hill”. Which was sung by Ronan Keating…Country singer Keith Whitley also had a huge hit with it.
A lot of people already mentioned her song with Brad Paisley, Whiskey Lullaby. I hope you do cover that and you go for the official video; the acting in that one is just amazingly done and it suits the song extremelly well.
She was 12 when i became aware of her as a musician at The Indiana Fiddlers Gathering. Her violin work was exceptional and her voice 😮❤.... she attended for several years before her career took her time. One of my favorite songs is The Lucky One. Thank you for showcasing her so well.
A guy by the name of Keith Whitley wrote this song before he died. And of all the friendships among country artists one of the absolute closest relationships that has ever been was between Keith Whitley, Alison Krauss, and Vincr Gill. Vince originally wrote Go Rest High for his brother who passed. But dusted it off and recorded it when Keith Whitley died.
Cool story. If only you didn’t just make it up. Whitley didn’t write the song. When Keith died at 34, Allison was 18. I’m gonna go out on a limb and say a 34 year old married to Lorrie Morgan wasn’t real good friends. Congratulations, Whitley and Gill did know each other and were friends, though to describe them as extremely close is a stretch.
Besides that, Gill started writing it when Whitley died and finished it when his brother died. Feel free to make shit up to make yourself sound knowledgeable, but don’t be surprised when someone call BS.
Alison has a beautiful voice. This is a cover, the original was performed by country legend Keith Whitley. She does a great cover of "Carolina in my Mind" by James Taylor. If you want to watch a tearjerker, check out "Whiskey Lullaby" with Alison and Brad Paisley.
If you find you need a real tearjerker song listen to Alison sing "Ghost In This House", and be sure to get out ALL the hankies. That sweet voice does me in every time.
Alison is a terrific bluegrass musician who made a name for herself as a fiddle player at the ripe-old age of 12. One of her biggest hits was a duet with Brad Paisley called Whiskey Lullaby. Keep a box of Kleenex handy. Brad and Alison performed that song (and many others) during a swanky soiree at the White House during the Obama Administration.
She's a master of bluegrass fiddle improvisation, and she sings like an angel. Check out Alison Krauss covering Sawing on the Strings and the song Shadows.
I was ready to say it was a perfect song. But you two beat me to the punch. It's as good as it gets this side of Heaven. It was so tender, genuine and simple.
I would suggest checking out the Keith Whitley version of this song. To hear a male version of this song. Both are amazing versions and were big hits for the respective artists. Another Allison Krauss song that I would recommend is "Jacob's Dream" based on a true story (have tissues handy). Recently Alison and Robert Platt have done some collaboration. An amazingly talented performer. Thanks for your reaction to this one.
Love Alison, you can do her anytime! Next up I'd suggest Ghost In This House, written by the great Hugh Prestwood. It's another song that she re-recorded, the original was done in this case by Shenandoah. It's also been done by the Dixie Chicks. These songs a from a great era of Country Music, the 1990's. Speaking of great singers from the 90s have you guys done Terri Clark? I don't recall seeing one. I'd suggest Better Things To Do or If I Were You. I just saw her on Saturday night with Paul Brandt, two great Canadian artists. They did the show minimalist and acoustic; it was absolutely fantastic !!!!
