Alison has one of the purest voices in any genre of popular music. Of special note is the man on dobro, the legendary Jerry Douglas. For this generation, he IS the master of the dobro. He's played on thousands of tracks and backed the biggest artists in concert. Harri, James wrote this while in London recording "The Flying Machine," his debut album as the initial artist signed to Apple Records. His homesickness is elaborated touchingly through the lyrics. Thanks Clint & Harri.
Alison Krause has a voice like an Angel and won something like 23 Grammie awards along with Union Station. Why doesn't anyone follow them? The whole group are incredible muscìans!
27 Grammy wins says it all. She is amazing and can't say enough about Jerry Douglas. I learned to love bluegrass because of Allison Krauss and Union Station.
I love how there are so many American love songs about the country. I live in a beautiful country too, Canada and there are some love songs but only a few. I love American national passion and hope it never subsides. I hope that seat spangled banner still waves.
Thank you for the reaction Hari. Alison and Jerry Douglas are world class musicians and I love their work in Union Station. Perfection is definitely the word to best describe this performance. I will listen to Kris's version of the song. Love your reactions. Stay safe.
Hi Harri - I didn't think I could ever listen to anyone but James Taylor sing this song. He was born and lived part of his younger life in my beautiful home State of North Carolina. We like to think he's ours, though I believe he grew up mostly in the New England area of the U.S. Allison could sing the phone book (if we still have those?) and I could listen to her and be happy. She did the song justice and more! The harmony was beautiful as well. She's had an awesome band (Union Station) her whole singing career. She is mostly known for her Blue Grass music, but her voice is lovely on anything! Thanks for sharing this. p.s. - I look forward to listening to your recommended artist's rendition. Stay beautiful in your heart, Harri - from N.C
Can you please listen to Tracy Chapman and Luke Combs at the2024 Grammies? I love the first one by Tracy, it is almost like seeing a movie or reading a book. Then to have a country singer do with her was awesome!
Allison Krauss has such a pure, clear voice. And, like a fine wine, only gets better with time. Thanks for showcasing one of my favorite early James Taylor tunes, Harri.
Beautiful cover of JT's classic, Clint! Krauss could sing the phone book and it would sound great. Wonderful song, selection and reaction -- thank you, Clint and Harri!
(from chatGPT who sometimes confuses who is in which band) Kris Okotie - His most notable musical work is the album titled "I Need Someone," released in 1989. The album featured a mix of soulful and inspirational songs. One of the standout tracks from the album was the single "Secret Love," which gained some popularity at the time. "Secret Love" was a romantic ballad with a melodic sound, and it received airplay on Nigerian radio stations.
She's fabulous. I saw her in concert this summer with Robert Plant. It was great. The "Holy Host of others" referred to the Beatles. James Taylor was the first non-British act to be signed with Apple.
I have always loved James Taylor’s (original) version of this song. Having said that, whenever Alison Kraus’ voice is lent to any song, it is mesmerizing and this is no exception. Just gorgeous. Thanks Harri and Clint 🌺✌️
Heard her sing this at a james taylor tribute. Had never heard a dobro guitar before. The rabbit hole i fell into was: Dobro guitar Jerry douglas Transatlantic sessions- which lead to (spelling will suck) Tim o'Brian Nancy griffith Kathy mattia Best version of man of constant sorrow Many more
I like to think that the song is about my native North Carolina. I met a young man from Barnsley, South Yorkshire, England, in 2000. I had answered a question on line that he had about the movie, “O Brother, Where Art Thou.?” We became friends and he visited us here and we took him all over our mountains and the beautiful sites here in western North Carolina. Over the years, his father, mother, aunt, and sister all visited. His mother and I became close friends. Each year we went to Merlefest, a bluegrass festival held in honor and memory of Merle Watson, son of the legendary Doc Watson. The festival is held about fifteen miles from my house. My friend and all of his family loved Alison’s performances!! We went every year. My son and I went to Asheville, North Carolina to see Alison and Union Station perform!,, wonderful show!, Sadly, though, my friend’s mother died in 2020. “Going to Carolina In My Mind” was played at her funeral. My friend’s sister died in 2021, and his father in March of this year. He came over this spring and he, my son, and I went to Merlefest one day. But many of the people that we loved to see perform have died (Doc Watson & his grandson, Earle Scruggs, and others). I enjoy your reviews. Keep them coming. And a North Carolina thank you!!
Hi harri i dont know if you have covered the song black dog live version with robert plant from led zepplin and alison krauss it is a banger, you wont be disappointed. By the way i love your channel.
Love the bluegrass influenced singers; Alison Krauss and Patty Loveless are favorites. Less well known Mindy Smith. "Come to Jesus" is beautiful and haunting.
She has a very sweet sounding voice, but for me there was little emotional connection to the song compared to the original by James Taylor .. This was pretty, but uninspiring .. James made it a song I'll always stop and listen to .. Just magnificent.
