My favorite songs by this angelic singer are her covers of When You Say Nothing At All and Ghost in this House.

Prestwood wrote that song after his wife was in a car accident and he thought what if he had lost her, so he wrote this heartbreaking but beautiful song.

This was about a million years old. Alison now has a whole truck load of Grammy awards. "When You say nothing at all" and "Down to the river to pray" along with "Whiskey lullaby" are a few personal favorites of mine that she did.

"Simple Gifts" - with the great Cellist Yo-Yo Ma/Alison Krauss, "Baby, Now That I've Found You" "When You Say Nothing At All", "Stay" are some of my favorites. She has an angelic voice.

That instrument you noticed is called a Dobro. It's played by Jerry Douglas, the greatest Dobro player alive, and that's no exaggeration.

That footage looks like it was from her live CD/DVD, which was filmed at the Palace in Louisville, Kentucky. I was at that show. My first real exposure to Alison Krauss, and I was blown away.

You should check out her collaborations with Robert Plant. They have two albums out I believe.

Oh, you hit on one of the purest singers today. She generally does Blue Grass and plays the fiddle. Check out her duet with Brad Paisley, Whiskey Lullabye. She has been singing with Robert Plant of Led Zepplin.

Maybe not the best song to start with for Alison Kraus. She is the 4th highest Grammy winning artists in history (2nd female) with 27, I believe. Her videos "Lucky One", "let me Touch You for a While", "Steel Rails", will all get your attention. She also did a great album (Grammy winning) with Robert Plant from Led Zeppelin that is truly amazing.

She is a very good singer, I love a lot of her songs especially whisky lullaby, and I have watched a lot of your reaction videos I love your appreciation of other types of music. If you like accopela groups you should listen to Home Free they are one of the best and do a lot of cover songs. One of their best is How Great Thou Art you won't regret it.

I love almost everything she does but I feel about this song the way you do. I guess because I wouldn't let any woman make me feel that way for too long. As the saying goes, there are too many fish in the sea. Her favorite of mine is "When You Say Nothing At All."

I like the song, but probably not your cup of tea, since it's a bit slow. Maybe check out some of her other songs: When You Say Nothing at All, Whiskey Lullaby (another ultra-sad song), Baby Mine, and The Lucky One. She also does quite a bit of bluegrass, if you ever decide to explore that genre.

I'm kind of with you on this. It's a slow mover and a downer. But she has plenty others, and 23 grammy's too.

Here is a great Ladies Night suggestion...PLEASE LISTEN to Morgan James with Postmodern Jukebox covering Steven Tyler's "Dream On". She and PMJ absolutely slay the song - she was trained in opera at Juilliard and then went on to musical theater and now sings R&B and covers many songs to great effect. Then react to The Warning, a power trio formed by three sisters who are taking the You Tube and concert trail by storm! Listen to their songs "Choke" and "Evolve". This would be a Fantastic Female Friday!!! These are both very special performers.

Listen to Alison sing a song called "Jacob's Dream" and make sure you have a box of Kleenex nearby. I agree with you, this is a great singer performing a not so great song.

At the beginning she mentions this was a Shenandoah song. I like their version better. Their version has a quicker pace making the depressing subject matter a little more palatable. You might take a listen to their version and see how if affects your perception of the song. Allison's version is so slow, to me, it just makes the subject matter even more depressing.

Don't feel bad, the song just lad there. Looks like a bluegrass group - but that wasn't bluegrass. The sound you were talking about was a Hawiian guitar. Also known as a steel guitar because you run a piece steel across the neck (or the back of a knife, or a bottleneck, ring etc.) The effect is technically known as a glissando. The bluegrassers are particularly fond of Dobros guitars.

My response is that I don’t know if I like this song or if I don’t like this song, I’ve only heard it one time. Just now. For the first time. You know, her voice is beautiful but it made me feel impatient. So that’s why I am wondering if maybe some songs just need to be heard. That’s it. That’s all. Just listen. That’s the criteria. They just need to be heard. The singer’s voice is telling me that. So maybe some songs are not asking us to like them or dislike them. They’re indifferent to our judgement. What if that criteria doesn’t matter here. You know what I think? Everything is so disposable in our society. We’re so impatient. So I’m going to listen to this song again. And not toss it on the heap so quickly. That’s just me…

The shenandoah version is much better

To me her sweet vioce don't go with this song. I prefer Shenandoah for this Song,and Allison for others.
