I fitted these in my 300ce a couple of months ago, was a bit disappointed by the installation as the only reason I sought them out was their 'exact fit' reputation. It was still easy to do but like you point out its all noticeably wobbly compared to what came out. My fader wheel didn't seem to like them either, after a couple of weeks I had no sound from the rear!
Matt Teee i’ve left the fader out of the circuit since it wAs done by previous installers and wont be using an original becker in this car. For alleged middle range speakers they are very tinny. Fortunately i’m not big on music so it will probably suffice
I knew you would solder the original cables to new speakers, that's what i did too and also i knew you would cover the surrounding of them with sponge/foam. The original speakers are literally out of paper though. I replaced them 3 years ago with Alpine G series. Great ending btw ;)
Bekir Karakulak those f*ckers really annoy the hell out of me. To pocket a 15% saving they use this sh*t in place of proper copper cable and its them who pocket the savings while the end users are deceived. I’m literally completely fed up with them and their dishonesty.
@@MMWA-DAVE I could never think someone would plate aluminum cable with copper and sell it as it's copper. It's not gold afterall it's just copper. Same goes for w124 fuses. In my opinion every country should stay together against who's responsible for worlds current issues.
A couple of years ago I installed on the rear shelf of my W124 two free air Pioneer 10 inch subwoofers and two amps. The two-channel amp is inside the car and manages the subs, the four-channel amp is inside the trunk and manages the front door speakers (four 6.5" midwoofers each door) and the two 4" coaxials in the dashboard. Head unit is an Alpine IVA-D511R. Pictures available if needed.
Regarding the “universal iso harness with bare ends” ask the seller if its real copper wire or copper clad aluminium. If its later garbage, do not buy it. This sh*t has no place in an automotive environment and cannot be soldered. I am now on the hunt for another set to do this job a second time!
I have 200D with original Becker and only two speakers in the dash, would these be better than originals that I have? I don't need nor expect deep bass or something, just at least equally good speakers compared to the fully functional originals... Thanks in advance
Got to ask, do you know how does the wiring for the rear speakers go through? Both of my rears aren't functioning, there were some continuity issues in the wiring themselves so I'm opting to replace em myself. Just wanted to know how bad it'll be. Thanks mate. If you ever need W124 parts in Malaysia, do message.
it wont be hard to run cables from the rear to the front. I have seen people running it under the carpeting to under the backseat then into the rear. If you want to be more factory like, there are cable management trays running down both sides of the interior under the carpets but seat removal will be required to use these.
Is it possible to fit bigger speakers than the 4 inch . I just removed my Becker grand prix radio for an alpine now I want to do the speakers in my 1987 300d w124. But would like to fit 5 inch if possible.
I have a garage queen 230ce 130,000 kms.It hasn't been driven for 15 years. Rear Headrests are cracked ...I gather it's possible to purchase new covers? Also a rear speaker grille disintegrated on removal. So I will need same in chocolate brown. This car was missing most of the sealant along the top of the year or glass...water ingress has rusted out part of the roof frame and the passenger side floor...the standard Becker rear speakers were removed last week and the speaker recesses look like they were created with a hammer and chisel...is this normal Benz build quality ? or am I just lucky.
as with any car thats sat for this long its going to need a thorough going over. the fuel system is of concern with possible rusting of the tank, lines, pump etc. you dont want any of that crap getting inside the fuel distributor. As for the speaker holes they would have been perfect holes from the factory. Some person in the past must have been screwing around back there, possibly even one of the troglodytes that worked at the original selling dealership. No way it would have left the factory like that.
@@MMWA-DAVE True...they say it's the journey and not the arriving. It ran badly 5 years ago. .a true barn find..in a country barn with an inch of dust. Owner bought an island in the Pacific as you do and departed. Within a few months it no longer ran. The fuel tank completely blocked. No amount of boiling caustic could shift the tar...both fuel pumps dead...fuel distributer glued up by sticky fuel..o rings swollen. 5 years of u pull it visits...and many salvaged w124 bits later I have it back running..as it should. Fuel tank $60, fuel distributer $40...pumps x 2 from 190 2.6 complete $60. Broke rear glass...$2600 Benz...$19 from u pull it. Had to remove..to access rust. Donor much better than original which was a very thin laminate...Benz want $700 for a few bits of rubber associated with the glass...got it all with the $19 purchase. Brake fluid had solidified in the lines and calipers. All replaced with 190e used bits...identical. Ate gear but found a set of Girlings on one 190e. So many perfect looking 124's and other Benz went through upullit in Adelaide. I was there when a complete 300SE 3.5 was delivered..I took what I could, lights and air control valves and badges which I still have....fixed price parts...so all very small cost which has kept my project going....
@@davidfotheringham2480 u pullit in adelaide has bern handy for my red project too. Wish we had places like that in perth, last time i was there i brought a suitcase full of w124 parts back home with me 😀
hi, im also trying to do this but im having trouble removing the speaker covers in the rear. and i dont want to destroy them could you tell me how to do it properly thx
@@tuurdecaestecker609 I did not remove the covers from the parcel shelf - they will be brittle and they will explode. I removed the entire parcel shelf cover, its a lot more work but the only risks then are the C pillar trims breaking which can be glued back together or glued in place.
You should really consider installing the door subwoofers from later models as they heavily enhance the music with the aftermarket head units. Especially since you’ve got most panels still off to quickly wire them in. But glad the red beauty is coming along nicely
I have a spare rear parcel shelf, It gave me the idea of using it as a stencil for making up some type of rear parcel shelf dash mat to protect my blue interior rear parcel shelf from sun fading. Perhaps some flapping action to cover my rear headrests when they're reclined to again avoid those getting dryer and more brittle. In your case the black you have can be fabric dyed so not a major issue. My blue would be tricky to get s similar blue. But so good to see your interior starting to come together brother! 😍
Great video. Funny comments near the end! Didn't you do another video where you dropped in quantum speakers in the dash with no modification to the tabs?
Hi, nice job, please can you say approximately how much cost to make from 124mb good car with changing all to new, make it like new with good upgrade. 2.2V or 2.8 or 5.0 something like that, japan automatic gear or other good, all electic cables, good sound, car chassis, body painting and minor repairs, hauling salon.
Depends on the country you live in. In Australia what i have done with my red w124 i could have bought a brand new 2021 e300 for the same money and am still not finished. Things are expensive in Australia though, elsewhere would cost significantly less for the painting. Most of my parts i bought over seas so it wouldn’t be a cheap activity still. I have no regrets as i don’t like new benzes at all, not sure what i will do after the w124’s.
strangely - active bass was never available in the 124 in Australia. It would be exceptionaly difficult to source here. This deck has line level outputs so i could add an amplifier and subwoofer at any stage later anyway.
@@MMWA-DAVE I know that it isn`t difficult to add them on when you don`t have interior installed, you get the audio source from front speakers then amplify and job is pretty much done. If you have fader you have to put it in line somehow. The door pannels have lines you can cut on, same as were for the electrical seats steering. Also the masking net is available in Mercedes service for around 20$ for both. It would be cool if you could install it, I am very curious how it all would go.
@@MMWA-DAVE Hrmm have a look on the back of your door cards and let us know. I hadn't paid attention for cut-out location when I had my door cards off last.. But makes sense, similar to your previous discovery of door card woodgrain cut-outs and the plastic liner dotted line cut outs
I'm Batsam cut out is definitely there - i would assume the active base version door card might be fitted with s completely different bottom pocket section though. Having never seen active bass in a 124 in person i dont know
Honestly? Not really. I only chose them for the ease of fitment. The factory sound system in my 2017 ford craps on it in every possible way. Having said that I can count on 1 hand the amount of times I've even turned on the sound system in my blue black 124 - I'd rather listen to the M104 than the BS on lamestream media stations.
To be honest with you I have a w124 e320 1995 I upgrade the head unit and those speaker, wired it to an external amp they domintae highs and do pretty good with mids once broken in, I have an external sub, best setup, totally worth getting these ESX Speakers and upgrading door speakers.
Kienzle, i have a video on my channel showing it in more detail. I think it’s actually made by some other company. I also have the blaupunkt bremen i fit in my w210. I prefer that to be honest.
