I think it's worth mentioning that while this is a quick and easy solution, it may not be the best way to do this to protect your factory speakers, and get the best signal. Your factory head unit is designed to lower the bass frequencies down at higher volumes to protect the factory speakers. This means that your amplifier isn't receiving as strong of a signal as you'd like it too and you may become prone to push your amp beyond what it can handle to compensate. Also, tapping into the speaker outputs in parallel like this means that the head unit now has a lower impedance on it than it usually would have due to a less electrically restrictive path made possible by the circuitry in the amplifier's inputs. It probably won't be a problem in most cases but some factory head units may not be able to handle it.
@JCTFIXIT
@JCTFIXIT 6 месяцев назад
Nerd alert ⚠️. Thanks for the extra thoughts.
@braceyourselvesfortruth2492
@braceyourselvesfortruth2492 6 месяцев назад
The amplifier speaker level inputs should have a significantly higher input impedance than the speaker outs on the head unit, on the order of thousands of ohms. This will keep the impedance basically the same on the entire load, like 3.97 instead of 4 ohms. This is exactly how they are intended to be used. Going back to the first issue, I have found that the best way to combat this is to set your levels at your ideal listening volume, but of course you are ultimately limited both by gain staging and speaker power handling. Thanks for the video!

Hey jct great video, liked and subscribed! I’m doing this in my Jeep and I want to replace my stock amp and stock sub and keep my factory head unit. I already have everything but was wondering if I need to remove my stock amp to be able to use my aftermarket amp? And also I was going to tap into my stereo harness sub wire in the back of my stereo. I noticed you tapped into it right at the sub in the back, which would you recommend if time wasn’t a issue?
@JCTFIXIT
@JCTFIXIT 3 года назад
If time isn't an issue, tap the sub wire coming from the back of the stereo. Depending on your vehicle configuration, this may bypass the amp. Like in my vehicle the oem sub amp was in the trunk and I obviously do not bypass it. Your stock amp doesn't have to be removed and won't draw much power if it is not energizing any speakers although it wouldn't hurt either if you wanted to remove it. Just make sure that its only powering stock sub. You don't want to accidently remove power from other speakers.

Hey one question o had for you and haven’t been able to find much info about is, “do you also ground the middle black high input wire on the amp?” And if so, where do you ground it to? Back of the amp or chassis where amp is grounded?
@JCTFIXIT
@JCTFIXIT 2 года назад
You just ground it. Doesn't matter to the amp or chassis because ultimately the amp will be grounded to the chassis.

Can you wire the new amp to a rear speaker instead of a rear sub? Also, how do you tell between the positive and negative wires? Mine also has a black wire that I assume is a ground wire.. 5 wires total.
@JCTFIXIT
@JCTFIXIT 3 года назад
Absolutely you can.
@cuevasxjr5
@cuevasxjr5 3 года назад
Did you put the gray together and white together then connect to your positive and negative in the rear speaker ?
@JCTFIXIT
@JCTFIXIT 3 года назад
The grays are for one side in the rear and the white is the other so you have positive and negative on both the left and right inputs. The copper with clear jacket is wired to my submitter in the box.

So you answered my question qbout the ignition can i run thru the orignal factory stereo wire ?
@JCTFIXIT
@JCTFIXIT 2 года назад
If you can find it, you probably could but it would be best to still have an isolated circuit with its own fuse.

I did this same set up on my 2015 Camry. Now I have a 2018 Camry but there are no speakers in the back so taping into the door speakers is going to be tricky. Either I have to take off the door panel and get to the speaker that way or find the right wires under the door sill and tap into that. 😬 Fun, fun, fun.

@@JCTFIXIT nope, not at all. I was hoping maybe I could find wiring that they might of run to the rear because other models have speakers in the rear. I’d rather go that route or I wonder if the stock head unit has rca outputs. 🤔

@@k9keo Little late but, they make a thing called a line output converter, you would attach it to the speaker wires at the back of the stereo, then run RCAs to the amp from the converter

Dude I've been trying to tap a line out converter into me stock speakers and it worked for a minute then shut off. I do have the speaker in too. I gonna try that.

I would also just double check your ground connection on the amp make sure it's very solid

I have a 2016 Chevy Malibu and it doesn’t have rca outputs on my head unit. How would I tap in to the speaker wires if I don’t have rear deck speakers?
@JCTFIXIT
@JCTFIXIT 3 года назад
Run from rear door speakers into panel between front and rear doors then down under carpets to back seats to trunk. If your amp doesn't have a high level input, you will need a line converter. It takes the speaker signal and dumbs it down and switches it to rca to go into your amp.

Now my question is, would you do something similar if your car was to have a factory amp and wish to keep the factory amp and add a new amp for a sub? Like this is for a car that never had a sub

The speaker you see me tie into is a sub and the car does have a factory amp.

Great video bro! Answered a lot of questions! But I do have 1, do you find a difference in sound quality to the sub between using the "speaker input" option for signal compared to using an rca converter? Not sure if you have ever used one before
@JCTFIXIT
@JCTFIXIT 5 месяцев назад
In my case going to the oem sub, the line could be filtered or clamped already. But the same could be the case for rear speakers in some vehicles as well. Surely you will get absolute best sound by replacing your head unit. But as far as using a line out converter, it wouldn't really change anything from utilizing high level inputs.

Do u have to run your speakers directly to the amp to get power from the amp from component speakers with a line out converter?
@JCTFIXIT
@JCTFIXIT 2 года назад
The way you worded this question is a little tricky so I don't want to throw you off but if you are going to an amp that does not have high-level input then yes you would go to a line out converter then to your amp input

Hey man, awesome video, thanks! Quick question, what exactly does the remote wire do? Is that just the hot wire to the amp and it turns on with the ignition? The blue wire into the amp gets me confused? There’s no other switch or relay, just a wire, fused from ign fuse to amp..correct? Thanks again bro!
@JCTFIXIT
@JCTFIXIT Год назад
Yes its just a 12v signal to tell the amp to turn on. You want to tie it into something that is only on when the car is on that way you dont run your battery down for no reason.

So when you tap into a speaker are you sharing the power from that speaker with the sub or is it just the signal?
@JCTFIXIT
@JCTFIXIT 3 года назад
It is used as an input signal to go to your amplifier. Then the output on the amplifier goes to the subwoofer.
