Wow thank you!!! We both worked really hard to pass these tests. It is something I'm so happy I've done in my life! I just wish that the judges took into account her body size and didn't doc me those four points. I don't think it was really that fair and I explained in my profile about her body size making it harder to do the double Leg Takedown because if I did it the right way I would crush her. So I didn't qualify to be an instructor unless I do it again.

@MaharlikaAWA
@MaharlikaAWA 4 года назад
That's what we did. We both passed. It is a really good course. If you mix in sparring you will learn faster. Just spar casually and fun. Like after you follow the lessons and practice the moves you should spend 30 mins sparring or do 3 five minute matches or something. Just rolling around and feeling how bodies move in a struggle is helpful to tighten up your logic and use their techniques. But they tell you not to spar until you get the combatives belt. I don't really agree. Every BJJ gym has white belts sparring.
@warriorpoet8119
@warriorpoet8119 4 года назад
MaharlikaAWA yes, I am now 50 years old, I started learning Gracie Jiu Jitsu in 1994 with Rorion, Royce, I even met and sparred with Ed O’Neil while I was there however back then the training was much different, Many people pushed grappling to the limit and learning the techniques was very hard. Many techniques Today are instinctive however when I started Royce Gracie asked me to use a “Monkey Grip” but I didn’t know what this meant so I continued to do things wrong. Fast Forward to Today I am now learning from the 2 little kids that I saw in 1994 (Rener and Ryron were just kids). GJJ has been used since I learned it, After I retired from the U.S. Navy I want to train with my son and the new system of teaching is so much better and fully detailed. Again, Great Job! You guys are doing great.
@MaharlikaAWA
@MaharlikaAWA 4 года назад
@@warriorpoet8119 Thank you! Yes, I appreciate the detailed instructions. Every detail is mentioned on how to do the techniques. You have to do the exact detail to pass. Even one wrong grip, or something moved wrong or not enough will lose you a point during the test. You are lucky to have trained with those people back then. I do not like how many BJJ and MMA gyms do not have a real curriculum or progressive structure to get each belt rank. I am still a 3 stripe white belt outside of the combatives belt and never ranked up to blue. I can never consistently train. It's always off and on for me due to money, not having available places etc.

@@jesusthroughmary to be a GJJ blue belt you have to go to Torrance, California in person at the Gracie Academy and spar in a test in person. It cannot be earned through video. However I SHOULD be a blue belt at any other BJJ group or affiliation at a regular gym. I ll give you my 2 cents on these as I started JJ way back by trying these: it will give you a good base to build on. I still use a LOT of details I picked up from these guys years ago. It does not replace live rolling and you will have to adjust and build on these A LOT though, to reach blue belt level. You need training partners to pressure test these. If you know all these to perfection and you walk into a 1 year JJ guy with similar weight/speed you will literally get smushed. If you enjoy it (and for all you guys out there), train regularly.

I feel like they shouldn't have docked me as many points as they did. I feel it was a little unfair because of the body size different of my partner. They talked to me for not being standing close to her during clinch standing. So I leaned forward and because I'm way taller than her I couldn't really stand close and it didn't make sense. Apparently they wanted me to standing basically a very deep horse stance to line up with her chest so my legs would be close to her legs like literally touching. I don't understand why they expected me to do that when I indicated that she was only four foot 11. Also the double Leg Takedown they talked me appointment cuz I didn't drive through enough but if I did that for real I would have crushed her and injured her. So I feel they were unfairly document appoint from that as well because obviously I'm not going to drive through all the way. Then they said I didn't have enough control passing the guard after the double leg to take side control. And I think maybe on one of the positions with a triangle choke or something my hands and grab around the head or the neck or something.

Well I had done maybe 300 hours in my life of Gracie JJ studying. I started several years ago and briefly did it then did not do it until July last year. So we did maybe 3-4 times a week for 2-3 hours each time. Watching the videos then practicing stuff. So far I have not received my belt and certificate. I guess it takes over a month for them to send it to you. But believe me they are REALLY harsh graders. You better make sure you copy things exactly, even things they don't mention on the DVD out loud. Try to copy their hands or positions. I got docked simply because my partner is so small and I was doing the clinch naturally, but they said my legs were too far away from the bad guy and I needed to be closer. But if I did that I would be squatting down super low. I know to do this with people my own size as I always have. So they don't care. You have to do it exactly.

Yeah man it sucks I got a 94. Just 1 point off. Im not happy about it. They judge super harsh but I know where I need to improve if I do the test again but its only necessary if I want to be an instructor. I can teach without them because I know other martial arts and I could be a blue belt under another black belt. But im still going to try and rank up through Gracie University anyway because the curriculum rocks. I feel super confident on the ground for a street fight. YOU MUST drill it realistically with serious resistance and sparring. Over and over make it real. Like add the punches and stuff with a glove for safety. If I get rich I may try to get a 95 later. But I can still get a blue belt if I go to a GCTC in real life. But you still have to pay for the video test to get the 95 even if you get the blue belt. There is a rule you have to have it on video too. And video is an extra test fee.

That's much more than an advanced white belt. The blue belt (with no stripes) is awarded after a student demonstrates some survival skills and comfort when confronted with a more skilled opponent. This usually takes at least six months of training to include exposure to Master Cycle techniques and cooperative sparring."

Your demo was great. We can see you put a lot of work into it. The only “bad” thing I have to say is not about your demo but about the system. 100% of the street fights start standing up but only 30% of the demo is standing up. In a real street fight you really don’t want to go to the ground. You want to finish your opponent asap either by strikes or by throwing him hard on the floor (judo or wrestling). If the fight is going to the ground, you want to get up asap because it could be against multiple opponents or maybe concealed knife. Don’t get me wrong, Gracie JJ or any kind of BJJ or martial art is better than not knowing anything but I have seen 1st hand working in nightclubs and bars when I was younger that a combination of judo/boxing or judo/karate is probably the closest thing that can get you “street ready”. Once again awesome demo. Congrats.
@AwesomeConsoles
@AwesomeConsoles 4 года назад
UtubeLittleBagOfEverything By AgZ in reality if you automatically go for take down in a street fight without harming yourself, and you immediately go for a joint lock, like Americana, you can end the fight in seconds. The only problem is that you can do real immediate damage which may mean lawsuit. But I see your point you wanna be able to get away ASAP but in Baja we prac6ice technical standup to.

@MaharlikaAWA
@MaharlikaAWA 5 лет назад
I have seen people wil sloppier technique and more wild movements get a higher score simply because their feet were in the right position, wheres my double leg takedown did not push through enough or something. Honestly, it is really confusing on how they come up with scores but they are SOOOOO strict. I was 1 point off from qualifying to be an instructor if I wanted it. but if I DO ever want it I have to test again and pay the fee again. To be a Gracie certified instructor you have to have a combatives score of 95 or higher. But then you have to invest a lot of money if you DID plan to go that business route. For me I don't need to be a Gracie instructor but it would have been cool to know I had the score. OH WELL! I can teach whatever I teach anyway. In June I am going to try to test live at a CTC to earn my Gracie blue belt. but I also want to earn a blue belt from a sport gym to match it. That is my goal.
