I think we are both our body and our minds. Can you leave your body? Can you leave your mind? How about we take your kidneys away. Would you be fine with that since your 'are not your body'? How long would you last with no liver? I think it better we surrender to the fact that we ARE physical beings we need our kidneys we need our bodies and minds. This is in fact what the Buddha tried to teach us: because we ARE physical beings life must include uncomfortableness and suffering. The idea is we accept suffering as a part of life, we go with it and not identify ourselves solely with our physical aspects, that we learn to dwell more in our conscious awareness. No use pretending we are not partly physical beings. Try it and watch your spirituality fly out the window when your health is poor.

I think what they might mean is that we should not identify with our body or our mind, impose whatever we perceive to be their limits on our sense of selves. Our true self is a vibrational energy expressed by the whole of the universe. We can see it manifest in forms like body and mind, which are important for both daily life and self actualization. But the energy comprising who we really are runs much deeper than that. Namaste.

But I see it a lot, and I've been into Buddhism and meditation for years, people often try to create a fantasy where they feel the body and mind are not in anyway important or even 'real'. This is a mistake and it will for sure cause more suffering delusion and confusion. I've seen it fist hand. Think of it this way: Has the natural universe made a mistake giving us a mind and body? Of course not.
