The Copa América Centenario was an international men's association football tournament that was hosted in the United States in 2016. The competition was a celebration of the centenary of CONMEBOL and the Copa América, and was the first Copa América hosted outside of South America.
The tournament was the 45th edition of Copa América since its inception in 1916. It was held as part of an agreement between CONMEBOL (the South American football confederation) and CONCACAF (the football confederation for North and Central America and the Caribbean) as a special edition between the usual four-year cycle, and featured an expanded field of 16 teams (an increase from the usual 12), with all ten teams from CONMEBOL and six teams from CONCACAF.
Chile became the fourth nation to win at least two consecutive Copa América titles by defeating Argentina in penalty kicks for the 2nd Consecutive year.

This was a surprising and very entertaining crossover. Not only Conmebol said let's do a "real" Copa America for the 100 year anniversary but also chose the US to host it has been good for the country's growth in the sport. To top it all off, the US team before the era of all these young exciting players reached the semifinal.

Man I jumped out of my seat for all those goals. Messi's is probably the best I've ever seen live. I must say I didn't enjoy it too much as I am a die hard USA fan :(

Soy de Argentina y por más que haya perdido puedo decir que esta fue la mejor Copa América de todas, para empezar porque fue una verdadera Copa América participando todos los países del continente, lo organizado eeuu que lo hizo bastante bién con estadios increíbles, llenos, hasta la gente de EEUU que no era muy futbolera se metió de llenó arengando a su equipo, creo que eso se debió después del Mundial que llegaron a 8°, ojalá en algún momento la Conmebol y la Concacaf dejen sus tonterias a un lado y puedan seguir organizando eventos de este tipo, donde no tendremos nada que envidiar de la Eurocopa dandole más valor a la Copa América.

It’s always like that. Don’t get me wrong Mexico has a good team. Even now they have a lot of talent. But to say that they can beat teams like Argentina, Brazil and etc is just a big joke. I get that they’ve beaten big teams such as Germany. But that 2018 Germany team was so disorganized and looked nothing like the 2014 Germany most teams feared and respected. Its nice to love and have a big passion for your team, but sometimes you just have to be realistic. That doesn’t mean that no fan can’t dream. Im just saying they should be more realistic when confronting all of there rivals.
