Must admit, I wasn't keen on the straight trunk but loved it more than the S shape after you'd enhanced it. Really nice work! Thanks for all the tips :D

Probably as you get on bro, if youre anything like me, you'll kinda cringe at those generic cookie cut s-shaped "mall-sai" as many call them. Me especially chinese elms and other deciduous or broad leafed trees like it that are s-bends with the foliage pruned into little clouds akin to like is done for conifers like pines and junipers... nope! 😒😠😡😤 Ok i may be exxagerating how angry they make me lol but dont make me smile either. The straighter one has alot more potential imho as a classic broom style. It is a hard style to do really well though but when done well i love them. But really you have yo train it as a broom very early on or you get this sorta in between look thats neither nor. Anyway just my two cents.

Wow, you make it look so very easy and fast! I think most of us are a bit nervous trying that, I found this video very useful thank you. I’ve just bought a Chinese Elm and I am trying my uttermost best. Still “feeling” when it’s too dry and still moist is a bit of a challenge but I’ve learned that if the top layer is a bit dry you can water it. Thanks again. Cheers from the Netherlands.

Corin, you are always most welcome here in the U.S. I appreciate that you address the misinformation that swirls around on the internet. It is so frustrating watching bonsai videos that were done by people who are not fully informed or experienced. Your videos are a great service to the world of bonsai. Safe travels. All the best from Kokomo, Indiana.

Really enjoyed the in-person course yesterday. Have been watching your videos for a while on my other account which are always super informative but great to get a bit of a hands-on tuition for a sanity check. Came back with a red maple as well as the two trees we made on the course so that makes 7 at home now - should make sure no single tree gets 'too much' attention 😂

Great video! My Chinese elm hasn’t put out new shoots this year, what could the reasons be to this?
@greenwoodbonsaistudio
@greenwoodbonsaistudio 10 месяцев назад
It should have done, was it outside in winter? a few people that keep them outside ended up with dead / grumpy trees due to the cold winter in the UK. (assuming you are UK based)
@321bhullar
@321bhullar 10 месяцев назад
@@greenwoodbonsaistudio I am UK based, yes I did leave it outside over our last winter. It definitely isn’t dead as it has lovely green foliage however growth seems extremely slow/ grumpy like you said. Maybe a repot in the spring as it hasn’t been reported since I bought it from your studio 3 years ago. Yearly checks on the root system didn’t indicate a repot that’s why I didn’t do it last year

Yes, we use our bonsai soil mix, or Akadama. But you may need to use a different mix, as your climate isn't the same as in the UK

For the health of deciduous trees, isn't it essential that they go for a winter period without their leaves in order to use the energy to promote root development? Its my understanding that by stopping a deciduous tree from its natural fall cycle, it will adversely affect the trees' health long-term. Yours look very healthy though, so perhaps im mistaken, or maybe elms are just tough enough to handle it?
@greenwoodbonsaistudio
@greenwoodbonsaistudio 9 месяцев назад
They are very adaptable. Cooler spell in winter let’s them drop a few leaves as new ones emerge.
