I've been pruning my chinese elms incorrectly for years now. I didn't kill them, but wondered why I was having trouble with ramification. I didn't always prune only where there was wood. This was very helpful, very clear.

I'll admit I haven't looked really hard (yet), but I'd love to see you post a video on how to encourage a Chinese Elm's trunk to thicken. I really like the way you do your presentations, too. You aren't "looking down your nose" at all us amateurs and newbies, you're not snobby or authoritarian. Very down-to-earth, folksy and give the impression you're genuinely trying to be helpful without coming off like you're God's gift to the Bonsai world and you're doing the universe a vast favor by imparting your wisdom and knowledge. This was extremely helpful! I just bought a Chinese Elm from you guys earlier in May. and it's a bit rough right now, but I think with the tips provided, I can craft this tree into a great little example!

Very helpful, I have just purchased my first Chinese elm/ Allee tree and it is about 2' tall and very hairy as you say. I will use these tips to clean it up. I am in the south Florida area and hope my tree does well.
