I have personal mixed results with hydretain, however, when it comes to surviving the dog days of summer every tool, trick, and process matters. Thank you for this video. Your boss is a little cutie! Thanks for all your efforts.
I'm glad to watch your video on the hydretain products!!! I heard about them last fall, when I just started learning lawn care.. and have been curious how they work! Great instructions, thank you.
I’ve been wondering how this works. Not sold yet, seems like some folks just keep throwing all this “stuff” on their lawns. Just because it’s new! It may work awesome, I don’t know. Seeing we’ve had so much rain in New England so far I couldn’t tell if I used it. See me in July or august if it doesn’t stay wet! Brake fluid will pull moisture out of the air, don’t think I want it on my lawn or plants though! I’m glad you did this test. Thanks!
I really like your videos, man. You are one of those guys, here on RU-vid, who knows how to produce good interesting video. Thank you for useful info. I have never heard about this product. Definitely will add Hydretein to my list for lawncare.
Great video overall. I would have liked to see a section of lawn that received half the water and did NOT get hydretain for comparison. My inner skeptic wonders if the lawn without hydretain was getting 2x water as it actually needed and the hydretain didn't really help.
Michael you need to water your lawn 1st soak it then put it hydetrain on your lawn after 24 hrs later you put hydetrain on your lawn you water your lawn again then that's how it works
@@TheLawnWhisperer hah. That's fair. My irrigation water is unmetered still. It'll change in the next 5 or 10 years, but for now it is "on your honor" to conserve basically when we end up with drought years. Insanity.
@@JQUiK84 yeah, I've read the directions. Even used it a month or so ago. I'm not sure the point of your comment. My comment was about having an untreated section and still cut the waterings that came after that by half, to be able to compare/contrast the impact.
The Lawn Whisperer maybe it is less expensive. The deal breaker is how much price of water will someone save comparing the price of water bill vs price of Hydretain per 1kft2?
George Popa also have to take into account time if you don’t have IGS. And if you’re just doing a seeding/over-seeding you could see better results and have to buy less things down the road for the lawn. Just my 2 cents, not that I disagree with you George.
@@Lawnvolution there are a lot of factors that could go into it. Unfortunately I cant compare cost of water vs hydretain just because everyone's water Bill's are different. For me the biggest thing would be saving me time from having to move my sprinklers. I get up at 4am to run my sprinklers through my whole yard, which takes me about 3 and a half hours to hit the whole yard 😬
@@Keith-ym3lm if I were seeding a whole lawn of kbg I would invest in hydretain just for the peace of mind of seeing more sprouting earlier rather than having to wait til day 30 haha I would be freaking out!
I used that starting music in one of my vids a couple months ago it’s such a catchy tune lol. Yt has some cool music surprisingly...anyway back in topic I’m glad you did such a thorough review of this product I’m doing to be overseeding next weekend and I was looking at getting some of this for that project. Might be worth the cost. Thanks for the info!
I think if you're going to buy it I would go with the 1 gallon jug. Cheaper per 1,000 and better coverage through your own sprayer versus the hose end. Just my opinion though!
Started using Hydretain when they first started advertising to the public on the local gardening show 6 or 7 years ago in SW FL. Really helps my chronic dry spots along the curb and driveway. Can attest that the hose end sprayer shoots the product out extremely quick. Once you have the sprayer, the gallon and 2.5 gallon refills are cheaper.
Can I put down granular ferilizer at the same time? Since both hydretain and fertilizer need to be watered in i thought i could kill two birds with one stone?
is the Hydretain product a consumable. needing repeat application? or does it sit there absorbing and then delivering moisture to the roots over a long period of time (months to years)? I assume that it reduces water flowing through the soil to the below root depth?
Tried the liquid concentrate on my St Aug lawn in Florida , didn't notice any difference. Watered before and after like it said. how were your results?
Can you use this if the weather already warm? I’m in Minnesota, we are experiencing very warm weather for the 3rd week in arrow. My lawn is looking great but I want to add something to help with the water bill.
I also live in Minnesota and ordered a gallon of it. Going to apply it hopefully hopefully within the week when it arrives. Hoping it helps with this heatwave and lack of rain we’ve been having although today we finally got a good inch in the metro
Did you water in the Hydratain granules in your backyard or do you only have to water in the liquid app? In other words, for the granular app do you let the rain do the watering in or do you need to water it into the soil with a sprinkler?
Have you ever used the gallon jug of Hydretain? I purchased the gallon jug as part of my seeding project this weekend. It says to use 9 oz/1,000 sq. feet and use a minimum dilution rate of 15:1 (water to Hydretain). If I have a 5,000 sq ft. lawn and use 45 oz of Hydretain, does this mean I will need to use 675 oz of water in a tank sprayer (5.2 gallons) to cover the yard? This seems very diluted to me. Thanks!
@@Greg29 I would say it might be worth the investment to have your kbg seed germinate faster. But I dont like telling people how to spend their money haha
The white powder is the same technology as the granular but broken down for better demonstration. The granular hydretain looks just like a typical granular fertilizer. This white powder would be a nightmare to spread through a spreader haha
@@TheLawnWhisperer it's 850sq feet it's very little to walk if at all. The product container was empty within 3 min at most. The dispenser is defective. I recommend to put it in another dispenser.
Just wanted to check in and see if you had any update on this product. I know we saw how it helped germination but overall, still recommending? Doing my fall lawn work this weekend so I want to order it now if you still recommend. Thanks
I will say that while the hydretain helped the seed germinate quicker, eventually (I didnt take notes on exactly when) the other pot eventually caught up to the hydretain seeds. I would say if you're able to commit to the usual watering for seed(I recommend 3 times a day for around 7 minutes where I'm at to keep the seed moist) then it's not really necessary
@@TheLawnWhisperer for sure, I think I'm going to go for it and then throw down some of the stuff i won from your giveaway that I've been saving for this exact moment! Also, do you not have IGS?
The Lawn Whisperer yeah that’s crazy man. Good for you, I always respected your lawn but I respect it even more now! Can’t wait for Sunday’s rehab day.
I see no difference in your grass test for hydretain. Also, many powders melt when in outdoors. You could probably do the same with sugar on a hot day, doesn't mean it's pulling in moisture from the air. It could be just melting. I'm not buying this product as I see no evidence of what it claims and not convinced it doesn't just wash away after a few waterings.
It gets digested and broken down by soil microbes. The manufacturer recommends re-applying after 3 months for that reason. I might give it a try and put some down in April and again in July.
