How far in advance do I need to enter? I've been entering shows for a few years now and Im sharing everything I know from when winners find out they have a ribbon on their quilt to how long you can enter the same quilt into shows.

I have no intention of ever entering a quilt show....I am a big sucker for watching vids from those that attend large ones (and are kind enough to record all that they see on display). Thanks for the insight into entering a show. Very interesting!

I quilt for fun...I'm not looking to take mine to an art form. However, I appreciate that there are those who do!

Really balanced presentation on the pros and cons of show entry! Only one other factor I might include is cost of entry. Entry fees for national shows are not insignificant, especially for QuiltCon, where many people enter 6-8+ quilts at $15 each. If your quilt is accepted, then shipping costs add up as well, probably in the $50-$100 range for a round trip. It’s nice to win an occasional cash prize to support the “show habit”! 😉

I always wondered about quilt shows. Now I feel very informed and I can appreciate even more the work that goes into show quilts. Terrific information. Thank you.

Thank you, Megan. I have entered a couple local non judged shows but wondered how it worked with the more professional ones.

I really appreciate your videos. This one is well timed. I quilt with my husband and we were just talking about doing a show quilt. Thanks.

Thank you for this video! I am just getting interested in submitting to exhibitions. Thank you also for the link to your calendar! There were a couple of exhibits that I didn’t know about on there. Something you are missing from October 31 this year: deadline for submission to Quiltcon. 😀

Afraid I always catch the late video. In Oregon here and my one dot to sleep in. Are you saying your entry was a doll quilt? I just didn’t realize that was a category.

THANK you SO much for this video!! My goal is to enter a quilt show! I am starting on the bottom rung with my guild's quilt show this coming year. I've made a Mary Ann Berry quilt that I am hand quilting. The funny thing is that when I finished piecing it looked perfect!! I strenuously matched all of the angles perfectly to get the geometric pattern just right! BUT! Now that I am hand quilting it I am finding all kinds of problems with it like where a triangle didn't get all the way under the needle, etc. SO I am in a quandry. I'm beginning to think I will just hang on to it and try again. Also! I wondered why my seams seemed like they looked like they were spread apart. I was watching one of my many RU-vid videos and found out it was a tension issue. I had bought new thread🙄 So I adjusted my tension and solved that problem, but it's that way over most of it. Hand quilting it has been the BEST way to find mistakes! 🤣😆😂😆🤣 So, THIS one that I intended to be a show quilt will go to a grandkiddo, and I'm going to try again! So with that, and all that I have learned, it's definitely NOT been a waste! On to the next try! 😁😁😁😁 I LOVE your videos and am crazy about you! Can't wait for the next!! Keep up the good work!

You can definitely do it, Rhonda!! I think the fabric can relax a little after it’s all nicely pressed and such after piecing. Especially when I hand quilt, I know I’m really scrunching it up. But no quilt is totally perfect!! :) I hope you enjoy the guild show! I started at my county fair and it was such a fun experience that it made me go for some big shows and I’m so glad I did :)

Still a beginner and learning. Thank you so much for the info. For most shows, is there a timeframe in which the quilt needs to be created/finished? If not, can you enter the same quilt in multiple shows/years?

When someone enters a quilt to a show have they done all themselves? The quilting too? So I need a LongArm machine right😉. I’m wondering if it’s their top and someone’s else’s quilting?

Hey Hi! I only just recently found your channel. A question about quilt shows: Do any of them have a category for Reproduction Quilts? I am totally into Civil War Reproduction quilts in which I have a Soldiers Cot Quilt ready to be basted and quilted. I was just curious. Thank you for all the great videos. Happy Thanksgiving to you and yours!

Wow, thanks for doing this video! Do you sew your hanging sleeve under the binding like usual, and do you have to undo the binding to take off the sleeve when the quilt's show career is over?
@TinyOrchardQuilts
@TinyOrchardQuilts 2 года назад
I sew the sleeve to the backing right beside the binding. That way I can remove it easily once it’s not needed any longer :)

Question: obviously all shows are different, but do you find quilts shows are 'international' terms of contenders and stands?
@TinyOrchardQuilts
@TinyOrchardQuilts 2 года назад
Some shows more than others? I see a lot of international winners at Houston and Road to California. Quiltcon is maybe slightly more “American”? But there are lots of Europeans/Brits that attend. It might be because it is run but the modern quilt guild instead of an open show.
