Where is this red algae coming from and how can I get rid of it?! This is one of the longest All About videos to release, but it is because we go over EVERYTHING! From what cyanobacteria is, what causes it, why is it growing so much, how do I get rid of it, and how can I prevent it? We also do a demonstration using Chemiclean.

Very informative. Every once in awhile I will have cyno in my dead spots, but water changes fixes it, along with suctioning it out. It's definitely correlated with feeding, or should I say, when I overfeed

I added a black molly to the aquarium acclimating it for about 6 hours, it's been In there for a few days but haven't seen it since 2 days ago in the morning, my girlfriend said she spotted it eating some cyano yesterday buy still haven't seen it swimming around.

I’m in the middle of a cyano issue right now. It’s on a few patches of the sand bed mainly. I’ve been working a ton and been slipping on the water changes. Also there is a small amount of sunlight that gets a corner of my tank(right side front) for a few hours in the late afternoon, the cyano is there and is super bright red compared to the dark dark red everywhere else. I’ve heard that in the summer months cyano is a lot easier to get as well. Have you heard this and/or what do you think? Thanks for all your vids.

Is it OK to add red slime remover In small quantities before you have it to prevent it from having it in the first place
@affordableaquariumservices1663
Great information I just used the Chemi clean did an awesome job I’m on day six my question is why even do a water change and take the chemical out?
@Wraxieus
@Wraxieus Год назад
I think its because you can cause a resistant strain of cyno if you leave it in the tank, make sure it's all gone then do a water Change, put some carbon back in to suck it up aswell

Hi Brock 👋 Do I have to turn off my biopellets when I dose chemiclean or leave it on?
@karennation3580
@karennation3580 Год назад
You arent kidding about lightning! I had about 30 plugs of highend zoas come in with full of cyano! I did a chemiclean and it helped a little then was dosing mb7 and mb clean and also hitting the plugs with peroxide. The I tried to lower lights but actually somehow upped the time they were on to 15 hours a day!!! I just discovered that was happening for about a week and now its much worse. Ihave a bunch of high end zoas, rb chalices and highend blasto's coming in next week!!! Plus I just added a bunch! I am freaking because some of my zoa polyps are dying and I wanted to move all of them into my newly cycled frag tank! This is a huge setback especially with these coming in! My sand bed is totally full of aclimating zoas and shrooms so there is no room now for more and i cant move them into the frag tank like this. Should I put the new ones in the frag tank? Then little by little add the others! The frag tank is brand new and been cycled about a month but been holding off on putting them in and running lights because of cyano all over the plugs! I have been keeping it live by dosing drops of ammonia! Thats good right? Any suggestions? Truthfully scared to add chemiclean now because my zoas are dong so bad! I love your channel so much! You are such a help to so many! Oh how can I suction this off sand and rocks with zoas everywhere acclimating? I hope I havt just thrown away over 4k on these investments! Oh can I leave gfo in place during treament with chemiclen. Directions say remove carbon and chemipure. I saw another video that said remove gfo but that will make my po3 skyrocket! PLEASE Help!
@BrockLeonard
@BrockLeonard Год назад
Putting them in the frag tank might be a much safer bet with the cyano spreading so bad. I have a lot of zoas in my tank and I’ve never experienced issues using the chemi clean, but you definitely want to get in there and try to suck out as much as you can to help. You cannot run carbon when dosing chemi clean as it will just suck it right out as if you never dosed it.

Sry to say that but high nutrients not causing cyano ... its the imbalance what it cause .. also frozen food ( I love it ) have almost no nutrients for the fish

Hey Brock, I’ve had a 20 Gallon cube going for a year now. Loaded with coral and 4 fish. I’ve heard a couple times a protein skimmer isn’t worth it for such a small tank. Do you think this is true or should I get one? I do 20% water changes weekly.
@fishfan2

Imo don't get one, a good filter should get the job done

Cyano like low phosphate too, because the algae won't be able to fill the niche the cyano will use it as a substrate as the algae gets weaker. High nitrate low phosphate = boom cyano Actually even low nitrate but zero phosphate and you get it too.

That’s my tank right now…My No3 was high and it was full of green algae. But now the green algae receded, NO3 is at 10 (Salifert), po3 still at 0. Then boom cyano 🥲

6-9 hours of lighting ? I have 11 hours 4 hours of just blues and 7 of white and blue is that too much ?
@BrockLeonard
@BrockLeonard 2 года назад
Splitting it like that looks good. Just watch how your tank reacts, if too much algae is growing, it might be good to take those whites back some.

Does Banded trochus, mexican turbo eat red/green slime?
@BrockLeonard

To an extent. I’ve seen em eat it when there’s really small patches, but big clumps of it, they won’t mess with it.

I never see my trochus crew near my patches of red slime, they stay on areas of green surface algae, usually on the glass.
