I was shocked it took me that long! Time flew by. I tried not to bullshit at all & stay on topic. 😂 Watch it in pieces. The shave off is 24 minutes in.

Great video with lots of information on these razors. Thanks for the shout out. I did a video with trying to shave with a paint scraper blade. Hehehehehe

Thanks for all your work in researching this video! It's always great to learn some history. If interested, here are my L&Ds: Liked the history lesson and the method suggestions on the Gems- which I haven't tried yet. Respected your work to get the facts and actual razors to show & tell. Disliked the length of the vid- 55 minutes is too long by about 40 minutes. Perhaps (if I may suggest?) do the 3 pass shave with much face lathering in another video. Or in a part 2, part 3, etc. The comical: the lathering noise and scraping of the blade picked up by your fine mic, as well as that automated face sprayer. I've seen them before, just wonder why not just wet your hands? Anyways, thanks again for factual content.

@brianC3080 it’s way too much material to cover in 20 minutes. I did a 20 minute version for the razor company and left all the history part out & no Shave. Just compared most of the razor line up. It’s shocking how fast you eat up the clock making content. I have switched to bowl lathering in my newer videos to speed things up. That’s helped a lot.

You should check your local CVS and Walgreens, some carry a 5 pack of gems. My local stores stopped carrying them.

Very good and informative video. I can vouch for the genius of the Wait's Razor Compendium - just a treasure trove of information. I have about a dozen GEM or Ever-Ready SE razors of different kinds - all excellent razors. And usually easy to find at reasonable prices at the 'bay and other places.

@hedas2303 glad you enjoyed all the info. The compendium is a fantastic compilation of info. It was hands down the best legitimate info source I could find. Wow sounds like you can’t stay off eBay and buying gems & ER too 🤣🤣. eBay needs a wife 2 step verification mode 🙈 I added a featherweight to my collection since this video. I’ve considered a contour 2 and bullet tip flying wing but most critics seem to agree they are even more mild then the 1958 pushbutton so I’ve held off. I recently learned the 1st gen Featherweight is different than the 2nd gen. 2nd gen has parallel lines near the tab u open the top cap with. I have a 1st gen and it’s outstanding to the point I just bought another in chrome instead of gold this time🤣. The one model I do want to still try is 1924 shovel head with the front hinge mechanism.
@hedas2303
@hedas2303 4 месяца назад
The 1924 is a great razor too. A tip is also to use injector blades in several of these razors - it changes the shave feel and often to the better IMO. For example the MMOC becomes much smoother. Or to use a shim to change the angle of the SE blade. Yes, I am deep in the vintage razor rabbit hole with +100 vintage razors of all sorts of kinds. A ”two-factor wife authorization” would have limited that collection for sure…

@@hedas2303 I’ve used an injector blade in my clog pruf. Being honest I didn’t notice much difference in the shave. I recently got a 1st gen clog pruf and it came with 3 vintage gem blades. The spine of the original blades is 1.3 MM vs the new blades we have today at 1mm spine thickness. I recently tried using an injector blade as a shim since it’s 0.3mm. I did this in my 1912 which I find too aggressive for me. It definitely mellowed it out but I also got knicked a few times and I almost never do. I may try it again but with something thicker.

Fabulous vid!! I have three vintage ones and a couple of modern ones. The Bulls Eye Flying wings, the Treet(red baton bakelite handle like yours) and the Feather Light... All in great condition. I have a lot of bumps and find that my technique isn't the best either... I have a couple of modern ones that work better for me. The G Gem and the button Gem looks nice!!! 🤜💥🤛

Excellent super informative video! I always enjoy shaving with my GEM razors and I am always amazed at what great razors they are. I have at least one each or more of GEM, Treet and Star 1912's, GEM Jr., G-Bar, Push Button, Featherlight, Micromatic, Clog Pruf and MMOC. I don't really find either the 1912 or the MMOC very aggressive, however they are both excellent efficient razors with the MMOC being the most efficient. Your Lather Catcher and other GEM razors are in great condition!

I’m glad you enjoyed all the info! I enjoyed researching it all. You are spot on when you say you are always amazed when you shave with them. I feel the same way. So far the 1907 lather catcher and 1945 clog pruf are my favorites. I have the other 12 nib clog prof coming. Excited to compare them. I got lucky with the 1907. It was a great price & in fantastic shape. I’ve really had to look at a ton of listings of them. Many of them are in sad beat up shape. If you are patient & keep looking there are some good ones out there. All my brass ones I had to polish and remove lots of tarnish to get them looking this good. Thanks for watching.

The open comb Micromatic you can shave a goat with it that is how aggressive it is.

@johnbrentford5513😂😂 I got one in that estate sale with the mystery Gillette. You know it was not nearly as bad as I was expecting! I liked it! 😮 For me the 1912 is more aggressive. The Parker 26c OC or SLOC OC feel more aggressive as well for OC

Best summary of Vintage SE’s I’ve seen. I only use SE’s. My daily drivers are the 1912 ER squat head and the 1924 ER Shovel heads. I only use an ever Ready razors. 🪒

@staceydupree3479 thank you kindly for that compliment! I put a good amount of history work and razor acquiring for this video. Glad you appreciated it. You know I’ve said several times to myself “I could totally be a SE only shaver.” Between gem, ever ready and schick I have all I need! I recently got a 1924 shovel head. It’s nice! I have a damaskeene on the way. Only one I haven’t tried is a contour once that comes.
