To be able to read, lead, follow, feel and feed off each other to this incredible jam session of epic proportions. What an adrenaline rush it must have been. Like having an out of body experience that I feel the same feeling they must have and I’m only listening to this. Yep, I’m a part of the band jamming my air guitar and doing the head bang thing while jamming with these fine artists. That was fun.
It definitely makes me miss just jamming with other musicians. I've played a few gigs in the last few years, but it's always been "prepared" songs, with defined sections. I really want to just jam with some folks and explore the space.
That “feeling” is so amazing and very addictive! It’s why I spent the majority of a decade seeing as much live music as I could. Plus my brother had 2 pretty successful Colorado jam bands and I would sell merch, load gear, whatever they needed I would do it, just so I could “listen to the music play”. 😊💃🏼✌️🎶
Shoutout to my boy Helmet! (his nickname was Helmet). He and I used to jam like this all the time just the 2 of us. We both played guitar, though he was much better at improvising and 'shredding'. I was better at drums and taught him how to play and then just let him figure the rest out bc I knew he could bc he was just built different. Our jam seshes would start out with me on guitar and him on drums, as a warmup, and we 'd jam for 10-20 min. Then we'd switch and play our more comfortable instruments. He'd just start playing some random shit on guitar and I'd join in on drums and within a few short seconds we were locked in. We would literally just play nonstop for almost an hour straight just exploring where we could go musically. Anyone that has jammed with others knows the feeling is like no other. Its kind of spooky how well we can read each others mind during a jam sesh. Best part is that you dont even have to know each other or even speak the same language bc music is universal and if youre tuned in youre tuned in.
2001 Dave mathews band broke the very strict curfew at Folsom field and concerts were banned there for 15 years. Dead & Co were first to play after ban was lifted. The song DM was playing as the curfew was broken was All Along the Watchtower #littleknownfacts 💃💥🕺
@@kevincarter7342 Yep... uptight douchebags in Boulder always ruin the fun. They barely held concerts after the 80's as it was. DMB played barely past curfew and paid a $15k fine then the athletic association for the University banned concerts.
Think about all the revenue (and good live music) that was lost over that (likely stupid) rule. I imagine anyone trying to sleep near the stadium wouldn't agree with me :)
This might be the most unique tune in Dead & Co's 8 year run. It's the only time they've played a tune (cover or original) in a style that wasn't of the Grateful Dead. This is Dave's unique take of All Along The Watchtower. And while the Dead covered it dozens of times, D&C gave the nod to Dave. So rare and such a gift
I've been into Dave forever and was catching this live. Couldn't believe the brought a guest / him on stage in the first place, then played it his way. Then stayed up a second song. And then back for the encore , that was wild
As a massive DMB fan, I'm actually blown away with the amount of respect the ENTIRE band gives Dave. They are covering a DMB song. Yes, Dave didn't write it. But this is very clearly DMB's watchtower.
18 year old Mayer ??? WTF did you score some of the triple-dipped LSD? Cause John Mayer is 45 (dob 10/16/1977) Wow peeps really are misinformed nowadays LOL
@@user-og7nj4mq6u ok so he would of been 14 in 91 when Dave played his version of Watchtower the first time. John was a big DMB fan was my point. Thanks for the correction to the age ..I guess. Hope you feel better.
At 7:07, Dave looks over at John when they are really grooving, and John has this big smile on his face. I am becoming more and more of a fan of all three of these artists very quickly.
This is amazing for me. My brother gave me my first DMB ticket just a day after we lost Jerry. I saw DMB play Eyes of the World and have seen them over 75 times live. I’ve enjoyed shows with Jerry, I’ve enjoyed Dead and Co shows, I love DMB shows…. But THIS! I would have given everything I had to be there in person to see them all jam together. At least we have the magic of the internet so we can all kind of be there.
Mind blowing. Love that they gave DM control to do his thing. Kind of crazy to think that this is an evolution of the 'Dead, playing Dave Matthews' version of a Jimi Hendrix song, with a nod to Led Zeppelin thrown in.
I was there! Last night of the Dead & Co in Folsom Field, CU, Boulder, CO, 7/3/23. My 1st Grateful Dead concert, Folsom Field, Sept. 1972. A long strange lovely trip it's been. And All Along the Watchtower has been my all-time favorite song since I first heard Barbara Keith do it in '73. I have a whole collection of various artists doing this song! Thank you Dead & Co & Dave Matthews.
It was amazing! Rain clouds rolled in about an hour into the show and they took a set break. Thought the show might have been over but they came back and played 2 hours of beauty!
I was just about to say the same thing. You don't realize how much Carter provides the backbone to the Dave version until you replace with TWO drummers and it still feels like something is missing. I loved it either way.
Saw Dead and Co. back in May! Absolutely awesome. And then you got Dave out there so jealous! Going to go see Dave tonight in ATLANTA! Very excited now.
OOOOO Dave !!!!! ive seen you 15 times my man .... your music your lyrics your soul touch me so much ... i have now became a husband a father.... ive missed you the last few years but we will reunite again soon my friend ..... im alive today because of you ..... from my soul to yours your an amazing artist and person .... you make the pain of life go away for a moment and i appreciate the years youve givin us to escape for a moment to relax and enjoy life for the better !!!! god bless you my friend
I saw DMB last weekend in Chicago and it was lovely. One of the things that was evident to me both nights of the show was that there are many who feel the same way you do. A delightful band and experience. This was a great cover. So good. I hope you get to see Dave again soon!
What a night, great show. Being able to see Dave with the Dead just seems right on so many levels. Never thought this would ever happen. Shout out to everyone involved to make Dead and Company
Love this @deadcil. Thanks for the upload. I was reminded that DMB did Watchtower deadicated to Jerry in Aug 95. Their version with Santana is also just absolute fire. ✌
I was there all three nights and all three nights were absolutely smoking .. I kept saying this is the best I've heard of this etc. Really the best part was seeing how much everybody was into it and having fun... band and crowd both! It was ELECTRIC!! ⚡️ I wasn't even planning on seeing this tour snd ended up unplanned at DEER CREEK... then I had to go to FOLSOM 🤙🏽
