We'll be uploading new videos every Wednesday and Friday to complement our live album releases on Fridays. Subscribe now so you don’t miss a thing! While you’re here, drop us a line in the comments and let us know how you're feeling, share our videos with other heads, and most importantly, keep on groovin' until we meet again....
If you can't make it to a show, join the party from home with the live webcast on nugs.TV livedead.co/
Dead & Company was formed in 2015 when the Grateful Dead’s Mickey Hart, Bill Kreutzmann and Bob Weir joined forces with artist and musician John Mayer, Allman Brothers’ bassist Oteil Burbridge, and Fare Thee Well and RatDog keyboardist Jeff Chimenti. The result was one of the most successful touring bands of the decade. The inaugural tour kicked off in the fall of 2015 with two sold-out shows at the legendary Madison Square Garden in New York City and ended with two sold-out performances at the ‘Fabulous’ Forum in Inglewood, California.
Since then, the band has completed five tours, playing to more than 1.5 million fans, and has become a record-breaking stadium act. Dead & Company has headlined iconic stadiums across the country including Folsom Field, Autzen Stadium, Citi Field, Fenway Park and Dodger Stadium. Additionally, the band broke Wrigley Field’s all-time concert attendance record in 2017. Dead & Company’s 2018 Summer Tour ranked in the top 25 of the Top 100 Worldwide Tours and for the past two years, their Summer Tours ranked in the top 15 of the Top Global Concert Tours.

I’m checking this vid because this is my town and I took my mom to see her favorite band on this night for her birthday. Oteil is an old friend of mine in the music biz and he hooked me up with tix and passes. She had a blast and danced from beginning to end. My mom passed away early today. So I’m just reminiscing and I’m so very sad. But I’m also watching this with tears of joy. I hope any of this makes sense. I’ll probably cringe when I read it later. But thank God for music. God bless The Dead and all of you. RIP to my mom, Carolyn. Peace.

Mayer has done a great service to the art and memory of Jerry. He channeled Jerry and added to it perfectly without stepping on the overall vibe in the show I saw.

Love seeing Mayer just being happy to play, I heard him say live that he “just writes pop songs to sell because blues isnt in the market or on the radio to make a living, but loves blues most” and it shows. He is a very competent musician and its funny when teens see him live and wonder why he solos for 10mn instead of singing the whole time.

John doesn’t realize just how good he really is. You’re nothing short of an outright fool if you think Mayer is a bad fit for the Dead. His virtuoso guitar, butter sweet vocals and youthful joy were the shot in the arm the boys needed to enter their senior renaissance phase of playing. This is as good as anything from 1983. Chimenti and O are fantastic fits as well.

Right lol? I went to the Eric Clapton crossroads guitar festival in Texas In like 2004, and John Mayer was up there with BB King and Eric Clapton, and all these amazing guitarists and John Mayer was one of the ones that stood out and shone brightest. Knowing him from your body is a wonderland , I was so shocked seeing his guitar wail the blues alongside bb king with such beauty. So, I’ve always enjoyed seeing when people discover how freaking awesome he is , and the dead and company version of John maybe is him at his very best, in my opinion! Hope he never stops.

I mean Bob said himself (paraphrased) that he felt the dead's purpose was to bring their body of work to the people, he just believes that this is the best way to bring the music to the people, I think in the interview he even called it a piece of Americana. plus how is it a that much of a cover band? all the original surviving members save for Phil is in it.
@mbass718
@mbass718 5 лет назад
@@justaname2422 It's not a cover band whatsoever. You just can't please everyone and there's always gonna be party poopers. If Mayer is good enough for Bob he's good enough for me. But, I wouldn't just say that and go along with Bob if I didn't hear it and see it for myself..and it's been nothing short of spectacular..the entire summer run. I saw those first shows 4 years ago at MSG and right off the bat I was converted after just a few minutes of hearing how great Mayer sounded with them..and it's only getting better and better now that they have 4 years together.. and with some luck..many more years to come!! Plus they have their not so secret weapon funking everything up and keeping people dancing..Oteil! Personally...for me he's the MVP of the band. It's so much fun seeing how much he gets into the music and he just brings such a wealth of talent and positivity to the band and the overall scene. The show at citifield was smokin but I really can't wait til they're back at the Garden this Fall.. there's nothing like seeing them at the world's greatest arena! I went to Vegas show with a guy I thought I would end up spending the rest of my life with,but he turned out to be a liar and many women on the string. The rest of summer Alannis Morrisette was screaming” You Oughta Know” And then while preparing a sandwich for a golfer at the 9 hole shack the news of Jerry’s death came on , I dropped everything froze and thought I would faint. The golfers were kind and patent and though they weren’t crying, I could tell they were moved and seeds had been planted inspiring them to listen to more of this bands music and my tears watered the seeds so they will listen for the profound meaning of the lyrics not just the music

Mayer has always been underestimated in my opinion. His voice always kept him in the “pop” genre but if you look at early jams he always ripped man. His teacher at Berkeley said he would never be a true musician... guess he’s laughing all the way to the next gig over that one!
@drive-byguitarlessons1858

John has transcended his former self. Playing with the dead was a missing piece for him. His originals are honest and pure, his playing is complete. It's so good to be alive and seeing this great music being made right now. The Dead are playing better than they've played in 40 years, easily.
@brendan2871
@brendan2871 5 лет назад
@@drive-byguitarlessons1858 Not to take away from the rest of your comment, but John's originals have always been honest and pure. His first album is probably his most introspective. However, I do agree with you that playing with the Dead has furthered his facilities, and we certainly are lucky to see his constant progression. Cheers!

Wonder if @August West has complained of others opinions in this feed. After Jerry, there was "The Other Ones", got to see a show at Fiddlers Green that changed my world. Now there's Dead and Company. Another amalgamation of greats, so happy the band is still playing. In any form, the originals will always be the best ever experienced. The rest are doing their best to achieve what the Dead started, but will always pale in comparison. But I'll still enjoy every moment I get to experience. Regardless of who is behind the instruments. Shout out to my friends in "one man gathers".

See U there... these folks are my "I need a miracle everyday". Such a blessing they're still jamming. I have a pair of hemp shorts I bought on tour DeerCreek 1991, if they tour 2020 they'll have danced at 3 decades of Dead shows. Remember Brent Mydland's last show in Chicago Tinley Park? Or first show afterwards with Bruce Hornsby? I miss Jerry every single day...still. When the fellas play, one can feel him there...standing on the moon with Brent...but he'd rather be with U, rather be with U. If'n he could only have his rathers. Thanks for the blessed memories. I wouldn't be the same person without this band!

Fantastic... Actually the only DeerCreek show I ever missed was when they broke the wall to get in (I was in jail😪). Great shows at DeerCreek, they were always amazing at picking up that vibe & jamming there. A fave show, opened with Jack Straw, did a Maggie's Farm...but there have been so many! PineKnob, Alpine Valley, Buckeye Lake,...fabulous midwest shows in the 80s & 90s.
