One of the comments was that the American players were laughing at the Haka. Rubbish. I’d beat the players that were smiling was because they couldn’t believe that they were standing in front of the haka in real life. It was probably the biggest thrill for them as rugby players to face the ABs.
I wrote exactly this on another post. Its not everyday you get to face an AB Haka. What a thrill for them to be in that contest with the "Globetrotters of the game" He faced the Haka......enough said.
I played in a tournament in the 80's against a Hawaiian side. They were huge Island boys and did a Haka like dance before every game. We didn't know what to think, this was before youtube and some of us laughed out of wonder, or maybe fear. Then right before the game, one of our old boys yelled: " Hit 'em low and hard early and they go away! ". That turned out to be good advice, since none of them wore boots. They all played barefoot! We had a great game and party afterwards.
This is so heart breaking. He was an outstanding young man. As a South African, please know when a southern hemisphere player falls, we all feel it. Much respect to the AB's. Rest easy young man. You will be missed. Much love to the family and fans 🙏

@@johnny1897 no, they had a moment of silence for them, and even presented a jersey with Sean Wainui's number on it. They then supported their team like any other team would.
As an Aussie, the Haka is always spine-tingling and awesome to watch - it usually signifies that the Wallabies are about to get walloped. This one is extra special. Condolences to the Rugby and Maori communities in NZ. Love from across the ditch.
Have to say Pete, despite the 'sibling' rivalry between us (Oz n Kiwi), the Aussies seem to understand the mana of the haka more than most nations. The UK, French, SA teams have all ' taken a swipe' at the haka, at some point, obviously not really understanding or appreciating the history of the haka. Thank you Aussie, you're really a lot more like us than you think, lol! 😆

Hard, there was nothing in that. You can tell when a player is straight up disrespecting the challenge (Owen Farrell can rack right off) and that is not what the Eagles did. They showed the All Blacks the respect they deserve. Not sure about those frat boiz during the moment of silence though…
I wonder if the all blacks realize that the haka motivates their opponents just as much as them. Damn, if I ever faced the ka mate, I'd be surging with adrenaline by the end. I'd probably mouth the words along with them.
As an Irish man, I'd like to see the US truly take to this game, Canada too and others but mainly the US. With their dedication to a sport they love, their natural affinity to fitness, deeply instilled pride in representing their nation, they could quickly climb the ranks and most likely bring many new things to the sport, skills and tactics from American football, physicality assuredly brought. Adding value to the game, exciting new competition and rivraly. Don't get me wrong. Rugby is a finely tuned game, already bestowed with immense physicality and tactics abound. It takes generations to reach a level of skill and understanding to challenge the top 10 nations. However, if any nation has the means to reach the highest level quickly, it's got to be the US. Northern hemisphere needs another challenger. Italy just isn't getting there.

RIP Sean. The Kiwi's put a century on us for his memory, country and family. Gone way to soon. No team in the world would have gotten close to the All Blacks on this day. I was thrilled we scored two tries, as I watched the AB's clinic in rugby at the Eagles expense.

Saw a lot of Maori peeps from all over US, being interviewed 'on the telly' here in NZ. Looked liked they were very happy just hanging out together. Didn't realise there were so many living there. Perhaps they're just waiting for MIQ placements, like a lot of Kiwis. Can take the Maori out of Aotearoa but can't take Aotearoa out of the Maori! Tumeke! 😆
why wasnt sean shown on the screen and given that moment like the deceased american player was - as there was no silence from the crowd when abs showed their respect
Where I was sitting, it was Kiwi fans who were yelling Sean's name. Everyone in the crowd was pumped to see them start the haka that it wasn't obvious they were doing an 11-second moment of silence.

Don’t let the Americans smiling concern you. I was lucky to get a backstage pass to Enrique englasias in concert and when he came on and for the following two hours was a wall of either smiling and or in awe faces - it’s the highest compliment
shiiii... i would be beaming from ear to ear too if i get to see a AB haka presented right in front of me. my mans there most likely youtubed a bunch of haka clips before the game and couldn't hold it in when it's presented to you live. a story to tell the kids and the kids' kids
