All Blacks vs Scotland - 1978 

This was absolutely wonderful to watch again. It was one of the first I ever saw. Scotland were so brave and bold against NZ, and, as has become common, play their best in heroic defeat.

Extraordinary stuff. Remember watching it in the middle of the night, trying to figure out what was happening in the dark at the end.

The clincher for the ABs to complete the grand slam for the first time in 1978. The Scots put up a good fight but the late great Bruce Robertsons late try sealed the game for the ABs.

Certainly a faster and more skillful game these days, but I do miss seeing some good solid rucking.

Today's Union is too similar to league - it's an odd thing to say but too many tackles are made, too many players don't get involved at the breakdown and there isn't enough space to run into in midfield. Injuries are another concern with the massive first time hits in midfield. Give me Guscott and the 89 Lions v Oz anyday or Scotland and New Zealand rucking each other to kingdom come - now those two teams really knew how to ruck till about 1990.
