This week, join Eli for some "All Cats Are Beautiful" soap making! He uses a homemade soap scraper to make a cat themed design out of cold process soap layers. He tops a black cat silhouette with a pretty pink background in this version (scented like key lime), but we also have an unscented version with a marbled brown-and-black tabby cat (like Abby!) and a purple-pink background. Of course, we had to top them off with glitter, too, to make them extra special!
For our #ACAB soap (short for #AllCatsAreBeautiful of course!), we had the pleasure of partnering with local artist, KJ from Lucky Little Queer! They made us not one, but TWO beautiful designs for the wrappers! One version of our ACAB soap is scented like key lime and comes in KJ's beautiful lime-themed pattern, complete with lime wedges, blossoms and leaves! The cat silhouette is black and the background is a light pink (or a reddish-pink; variation happens when you're making handmade soap!!). The unscented version of the soap has KJ's absolutely gorgeous likeness of Abby, our very own Tubby Tabby! The tabby cat is embellished with meows, little paws raised to the sky, "all cats are beautiful" text and even little hearts! The background is pinkish-purple and the cat silhouette is a tabby, like Abby!

If you're interested in making soap at home, you can check out the recipe we use below! Because using a soap scraper is a more advanced technique, this soap design is best for intermediate to advanced soap makers, but the soap base oils in the recipe can be used for simpler designs too.
=================================
ALL CATS ARE BEAUTIFUL SOAP RECIPE
40% olive oil
40% coconut oil
10% sweet almond oil
5% cocoa butter
5% castor oil
Appropriate amount of lye & water (please use a calculator!!)
2 teaspoons sodium lactate per kilo of oils
2 Tablespoons coconut milk powder per kilo of oils
3% fragrance (if using)
About 2 teaspoons mica/colour per kilo of oil
About 1-2 Tablespoons activated charcoal per kilo of oil for black
Titanium dioxide, if desired for lightening the colour
NOTES
We use a 5% superfat in our soap, on top of the added fats in the coconut milk.
We mix the sodium lactate into our cooled lye water before making the soap. We also stick-blend the coconut milk powder into the soap oils before adding the lye, to ensure that it's well incorporated and no lumps remain.
